A few years ago I read a book about a man who was born in the 1890's I think and who only learned how to read and/or write when he was about 100 years old. Probably one of my favorite books I've read, but unfortunately I don't remember his name nor the books name. It was basically just about his life as a black man. From what I remember he died in the 2000s. Edit: After some googling I found him! His name is George Dawson, he learned how to read at 98
Before his passing he was in an old home where I worked my uncle had a couple of encounters with him.He is was a sweet soul! Btw dont take the film for the whole truth when people learnt about him everyone was happy with him no discrimination.
This is a real life story that happened in Kenya 🇰🇪🇰🇪when I was in middle school. He died just as I joined high school. His story will always be inspiring to our generation and the next
This story reminded me of so many freedom fighters from my own Country, India who had to go thorugh so many harships in their later life. They got only name-sake or no recognition, and no help from the government machinery. It seems this story is same for all the countries.
this movie really narrates that education doesnt requires any age limit or life status.. I salute this old man for the determination to be educate himself!!
God this movie looks like one of those ones that would make me cry. Was tearing up towards the end of this recap. Such a beautiful thing that happened in real life.
i am from nepal. i am big fan of african movie. this movie already i saw before. still i don’t this movie name. this movie made me cry after watch. it really awesome movie.
My great something grandma didn’t know how to write her own name for a long time. Whenever she went to the bank, the workers would have to use fingerprints to ID her. When she was 98 she learned how to write her name. When she went to the bank the woman got the fingerprint stuff ready. Grandma says: “It’s okay. I can write my name.”
Teacher: "Tommy, you are the only pupil in my class that didn't make any progress this week. Is everything alright?" Tommy: "Young lady, I'm 84 and I've got dementia. Not making any progress this week is still better news than telling me that I've deteriorated."

Yes. The film looks a little exaggerated. It is so hard to believe that they did not let him study.
