The more I use Linux (fedora currently), the more I realize why Windows 11 is so bad... it's by design. What do I mean by that? Well, watch the video. I think I hone in on the reasons Microsoft does what they do. A lot of it has to do with their mainstream status and need to be "safe for everyone" even if they aren't technical. But, there are more reasons.
We'll also talk about how Microsoft makes money, because that plays a major role in what a company does. I compare this with the Linux community and how things are not always driven by money.
Watch the video for all the ranting and details.

Windows sucks by design... here's how you can get a cheap key for windows!
current video why windows 11 is bad. Upcoming video why i cant switch to linux...
Exactly! Bad enough to be forced to use Windows 11, but why pay full price for a brand-new Key if your system got broken?
Win 10 keys though.
@@FathDaniel 8 and 10 keys are the same as 11 keys.
Correction anything after Windows 7 actually sucks which you're better off using KDE plasma or Linux Mint Cinnamon fair warning you will not get a whole lot of Windows software working on Linux though that is actually pretty descent.
Millions of people can complain about very annoying Windows bugs to Microsoft and they DO NOTHING ABOUT IT. years go by... NOTHING.
Microsoft is acting like the Gov 😵💫😵💫
I belong to a beta group and we started complaining about 11 pre-release and they still have not fixed the vast File Explorer issues. They just keep putting lipstick on the pig, and wonder why nobody wants to kiss the pig.
I did something about it
You spelled Linux and Wayland wrong...
And they complain about Linux which immediately fixes things.
Public companies are working for major shareholders not customers and with limited competition it creates a monsters.
Well summarised.
And the neo-liberal economic philosophy doubles-down on this approach... No proactive customer service, force as much of provider minor responsibilies onto the the customer as yo can get away with... result, mushrooming profit,..... estatic shareholders
So who could blame us for abandoning the most egregious corporate offenders that we CAN personally boycott. Windows is current attempting to buy and crush Linux, but the FOSS model makes that very difficult for them. We should all hope that they never get ahead in that arms race. Whatever OS we like. The results of such a situation would only result in even more an dystopian corporate model.
I think they’re going to push ARM hard because if ARM takes over they can ditch all the legacy x86 stuff they don’t want to maintain anymore. Of course, all the legacy x86 stuff is the main reason people use Windows.
And then Linux will carry the torch for x86. ARM is nice for eficiency and all, but it can’t hold a candle to good old x86.
@@beaconofdarkness I don’t think they’ll actually end up doing it, I just think they’d like to. “Everything works on Windows” ends the moment they stop supporting x86, and that’s the entire appeal of Windows, as Windows in and of itself is a garbage mess of an operating system.
they're definitely trying, but it's hard to push ARM with 45 TOPs of AI performance, when last gen nVidia gpus deliver around 900-1300 TOPs of AI performance (so when you do the math, taking less power than ARM anyway) xD
It does not matter, in 20 years we will all be on Risc-V.
x86 isn't going anywhere.
I still remember how underwhelmed I was going from Windows 7 to 10. Microsoft said that Windows 10 was going to be the last windows, they were right. I'm switching to Linux when they stop supporting Win10 next year.
Yep, last version for me too; that m$ guy should not have said that 😂 I've been on Nobara 40 for a week & 1/2 now with NVIDIA; no major issues. I have auto-backups of everything in case there are any, but I don't believe it will be necessary. Multi-monitor with different refresh rates works; using NTFS drives works; porting must need windows applications with bottles works. I don't see myself going back, even if people meme about going back, not me..
Switched to Zorin OS a few weeks ago. It wasn't a difficult adjustment because the GUI is straight up better and doesn't have like six other legacy interfaces hidden beneath it.
Getting wine going on Zorin was easy and I'm enjoying learning how to use the terminal. Performance/compatibility isn't great on some games but ah well I have better things to do with my time anyway.
It's not too early to take the leap! If you don't feel ready yet, though, you could always just play around with some distros in a virtual machine or on a live USB to test the waters, and start transitioning to open-source software on Windows so you're not learning both a new OS and a new suite of applications when the time comes.
My man 👍🏼
@@HeliopauseOfficial😂 To paraphrase:
"I switched to Linux and found every solution to a problem posted online involves the terminal.
Games don't work very well so I'll just stop gaming."
The reality of "just switch to Linux".
the worst part is they just keep moving stuff all over the place
The most frustrating things to me about Windows are: 1) It takes more clicks to do something than before 2) Mouse travel distance is much greater for common tasks (look at the travel distance to sleep the PC in Win10 vs. 11 from the Start menu) and 3) They move at a snail's pace. We should have ALL settings in the "new" settings menu by now and we don't.
that's why tiled window managers are so nice and efficient. when i use my pc with hyprland, my normie friends think i'm a computer genius hacking NASA. xD
but in reality i just opened and closed a few windows, copy/pasted something and switched 2 windows to another workspace.
Now everytime i go to my windows partition (once a week or so), i feel like everything takes forever because i have to tediously move my mouse from north to south and alt+tab 4 times to get it right. xD
I miss the days when companies strove to make a product that made us happier than their competition could.
Now, they aim is to annoy us slightly less than their competitor in their quest for $.
This is thanks to limited competition. If a small startup company could compete, things would be much better.
*strived
i hate how windows removes stuff like moving your taskbar to the sides/top and the only way to do that is to modify the registry. autohide doesn't even really work because it shows your taskbar when there is a notification instead of just showing it to you without the taskbar.
That’s janky
Autohide taskbar is abysmal. If the alternate setting doesn't work as advertised, they shouldn't be offering it.
I'm watching this on the WiFi.
I'm switching to wifi when drop support for the internet next year
Error 404 ethernet not found
More people need to switch to GNU Linux. As soon as enough people use it the software will support it. It's the only way we break free of the Windows trap.
The world will switch as soon as things like a streamdeck works or even something as simple as application audio capture in OBS. The hardware and software people are using in 2024 is not supporting Linux and that's what keeps Windows alive.
@@Seven_Actualsadly, they wont, because you basically cant buy a computer that comes with linux by default, and most are not tech savvy enough to install an operating system without help from others. until we can get linux computers into big stores like micro center or best buy, and then convince people that those computers are the best option, then linux will be unable to take off as a mainstream operating system. this is how it is in the us, at least, it might be better in other countries.
@@extenos If it gets bad enough, people will go out and find solutions (google, bing, yahoo). Once market research firms and departments collect the data that shows a trend, companies will adjust their products accordingly. You are right, though. I actually didn’t like it when they blocked the new sound settings if you no longer have a “valid” windows license.
They revoke valid licenses randomly too, and many people have to reactivate like 4 times a month. although it just reactivates itself when you click it, it's still annoying.
even though there is a "home" and "pro" version... there really is no pro version.
if there were a home and pro version for linux, there would be no home version
there should have never been a "home" version, It should have never been created.
@@StayMadNobodycares I disagree. Home should be the current Windows 11 we see, and Pro should be like LTSC is. That'd be coo
Pro version is very powerful. You can control all settings in group policy. Set updates to manual. Blacklist certain updates. Set to not recieve updates until x days after release. Disable auto driver updates. Remote into the pc from another pc. Encrypt all external and internal drives using bitlocker and many many more.
Pro version is what peple wished windows is, but not many know how to use it.
Just like Macbooks. Not really pro.
I like to name my photos with the date, day and time. In Windows 10, I could still select multiple files and see the information on the details pane on the right side of the screen. With Windows 11, I wont see them on the details pane.
Also, I won't be able to edit certain properties, simple things like the tags. I have to right click the file TWICE, to reach the Properties option. From there I can edit the tags of the files. THAT IS AN ADDITIONAL THREE STEPS FROM WHAT I USED TO TO.
Everyone saying those who designed Windows 11 are like little kids who don't understand any of these tasks. Right.
EVERY Company wants to make money. It is the point of business. The difference is that some companies want to make the most money now, while smarter companies want to make the most money over the long term. Microsoft is clearly in the former camp which is short term thinking and almost always ends badly.
It's not just start menu that lagging, it's the whole UI/UX of windows 11, even when scrolling trough settings app are just laggy and choppy, it feels like the whole UI/UX is running on lower refresh rate or caped or something, but yes.
"MICA" effect on windows 11 is feels so heavy and laggy, since as we know that most of Windows 11 UI/UX are just a new whole layer on top of the another layer of Windows 10 UI/UX.
No wonder also plenty of user that I found on alot of forum complaints about this overall UI/UX feels heavy, lagyy, and irritating to use. May some of minorities doesn't have this problem but believe me that majority of people does have this problem.
No wonder 68% of windows user still on 10, even me having Gaming laptop with RT30 series that came with preinstalled Windows 11 has suffered with this situation, bad news also I can't downgrade or do the clean install of Windows 10 due to my driver requires a minimum of Windows 11 22H2, and windows 10 is not listed on the website.
So I also kinda regret to bought and having this Laptop on this situation of Windows 11 poorly half baked OS Era.
You can get rid of that slushy feeling in the UI, but it basically requires getting rid of all the OS security options. You need to disable most of the exploit protections, control flow guard, memory encryption/randomization, etc. Also need to disable virtualization based security (VBS) and then completely disable Defender and real-time protection via group policy. Microsoft knows it's audience are casuals and normies, people who don't know not to click on absolutely everything, so the OS has been tailored and built around protecting those people, as a result, if you don't go in and gut all those security features, you're going to have a huge software layer between you and your hardware that creates a lot of slush.
The problem is that current Windows isn't even close to being the best Windows that Microsoft could potentially make.
Its strengths are being completely sidestepped by the current development mindset at Microsoft.
Windows was always a pile of shit, but it went seriously down hill after Windows 7
I always thought Win8/8.1 was the straw that broke the camel's back.
I really wish there was more of this "sucks by design" discussion instead of the "this sucks, I hate this, that's bad, that's ugly, etc." type of discussion.
I like the design language behind the new settings app in windows 11. I don't like that it only includes 10% of what you used to be able to control.
Problem with Microsoft store is that 1) you can't install free stuff without an account. There's really no point in trying to track your "purchases", or in this get your "gets", if everything is free. Especially when free software is rampant because each app wants you to download it for free, but unlock the full version with money by signing in to an account for the software. Now, if installing from the MS store required a login even for free stuff, then it shouldn't convert my local windows account into an online Microsoft account. I just wanted to install something from MS store, and Microsoft equates that to an invitation not to log my purchases but to scrape data involving everything I do on my computer.
The reason I'm okay with Apple IDs being a nice tool to enhance your experience on Mac OS is that iTunes still uses its own account, every app still asks permission to use the Apple ID instead of assuming permission and offering no way to revoke, and it's still possible to happily use Mac OS without an Apple ID.
I hate Windows 11. Every Windows iteration has gotten progressively worse after Windows 7. Well, I’m pretending that Windows Me and Windows 8 never existed because they were no doubt the worst versions of Windows to ever exist.
Luckily I don't need a modern version of Windows, modern programs or modern games, so I'll happily stay on Windows 7 for many years to come.
I still run Windows 7 on an old laptop. I have an original DVD. It keeps telling me I don't have a genuine Windows 7 installed, which is false.
Yikes you're not scared of using windows 7 without security updates? i have watched some RUclips video about people exposing windows xp to the internet and and having malware on it within a few minutes i don't see it being much different on 7.
Have to use a severely locked down windows 11 PC at work and it's so fugly and irritating, there's zero ability to customize anything to be more functional due to restrictions, so I can't turn off the widgets popup when hovered over even though everything that would go there is blocked for security reasons, so it randomly opens and closes while I'm trying to complete tasks at work no matter what app I'm using, just to say widgets are blocked in a black pop-up window that takes over 80 percent of my monitor for 2-3 seconds. And yet I also cannot customize the taskbar to look like a goddamn taskbar instead of some bs iPhone navigation bar. I despise it. That's before getting into everything that only partially works as it's supposed to in win 11 esp for apps in chrome for win 11, especially when combined with the excessive lockdown of all settings. It's enough to make an adult weep and that's before considering any of the annoying bs and stress of the job and dealing with frustrated people and all the corporate red tape that prevents you from doing your job, especially when not everyone has win 11 yet so those who don't have it don't believe you when certain things don't work properly and it's just a complete mess.
6:16 This sort of thing is less "lowest common denominator", and more "brain fried NPC". The NPC phenomena is what allows them to run humiliation and frustration rituals on real people, which causes them to react and generate emotions. This creates loosh and causes them to manifest things.
There is a simple way to handle this, with an appearance toggle, and only for Pro users:
Power User mode = Windows 10 interface
Loser mode = don't enable Power User Mode
Microsoft stands to lose nothing by doing this.
They stand to lose nothing by properly fixing their long filename support too - but that still rears its head from time to time. 🤣
I installed Debian and refuse to go back. Windows 11 annoys the shit out of me at work. Slow copying/pasting, OneDrive constantly on and slowing everything down, the context menu is neutered unless you *edit the freaking registry* , ads everywhere, useless freaking settings window that makes finding things impossible or buried way more than using the control panel, dark patterns to force MS account adoptions
I could go on. Its just a bad product now and far worse than 7 and 10
The only thing I actually like from MS is .NET, powershell, Visual Studio, and MSSQL. That's about it.
Garuda Dragonized is a good Windows 11 replacement for gamers alike and supports emulation I might go back to Garuda Dragonized but haven't made up my mind yet I also might wait until Windows 10 runs out of support to decide to make my move I already got the majority of games to work on Linux I might as well explore even more.
Ya. Microsoft, give us the old version and quite changing things. Quit with the "forced" Microsoft account log in!!! You know, we "purchased" and "own" our Windows copy and thought we actually had control of it... Quit forcing BS change~~!!!!!
Windows 11 was supposed to change the UI once and for all.
Instead it was still just a 6 month update for Windows 10.
Microsoft are completely clueless and have been actively damaging their OS, and users' experience, since Vista. Vista itself got a bad rap for being an overhaul, but also because computer MFGs put out underpowered prebuilts for years. As a power user, the OS was fine, and I feel like one of the 0.00001% that actually used it and can compare to XP/7/10. Vista and 7 were nearly identical. Except 7 removed classic features Vista had.. for no reason, yet everyone praised it from the rooftops, because they're completely ignorant and just rode a bandwagon.
But where things really started going downhill rapidly is when M$ stopped releasing separate updates, and instead combined everything into a single "cumulative" update. No longer could we pick and choose which updates we wanted to avoid due to issues (or simple unwanted changes), we were forced to take it all, or nothing.
Then Windows 8 came out. Then, eventually, 10. And 10 they decided to turn it into a "live service", so not only did you get the cumulative updates every month, you got a MAJOR update every 6 months which changed so much crap, more than a Service Pack ever did. And over time they just slowly overhauled the UI, piece by piece. Breaking so many things that weren't fixed until the next major update.
Microsoft is a complete disaster, and we're being dragged along pavement as they never look back.
the problem of Microsoft from financial perspective is that they gave up mobile platform. that is why they are milking windows as entry point to other microsoft product.
"before we talk about why Windows 11 sucks, let's activate your copy of Windows...." glad to see we have our priorities straight here. :) lol.
but actually, after watching all the way through..... I do have a few random thoughts of my own.
imagine if Microsoft "pulled an Apple" and said: hey, the Windows platform is free for anyone with "compatible hardware".. they would fall back to only making their money through other services (which are by no means insignificant), and quite likely some "products to enhance the Windows experience". but if the base OS itself was free, well.. that would be a whole bright and shiny new world right there.
or if we don't go that far down the rabbithole, perhaps just make that lower "OEM price" the standard for a base version of Windows, and sell the "Enterprise" and "Server" functionality separately...? they have the networking prowess to pull off any kind of deployments they choose to... including giving system admins the tools to do that themselves, within scoped networks. so it's not *impossible*, but even that would be a whole new world.
anyways, putting the pipe dreams aside, I'll boot back into Windows again next time I feel like playing games... Windows 10 Pro with a local account is still just the best modern day option for gaming.. including with the use of emulators and "compatibility fixes" for the older games. but otherwise, I myself have fully moved over to Linux now.
@@AndreGreeff the thing is, as far as the typical end consumer is concerned, Windows is already effectively free, as it comes pre-installed on almost every computer sold by every major retailer. For the comparatively few people building their own PCs, I doubt the cost of a license key will be the deciding factor in what OS they install; most people will unfortunately just go with Windows because it's what they know, with the more frugal segment finding the abundant OEM keys discussed in the video or just cracking it.
That said, it would be really interesting if the cost of the OS were more transparent, with users able to choose between paying for Windows or just getting a Linux distro for free (on more than just a few relatively niche devices; Framework and that one Dell laptop come to mind but nothing else atm). I imagine we'd see quite a spike in usage then, but as it stands, most people aren't directly confronted with the reality where it counts-their wallets-so change will continue to be slow for a while.
There used to be a design paradigm that was much more common in the Windows 9x days for programs. That design paradigm basically offered a default group of settings. Within the program's settings menu or interface, you were given a set of common settings that were most likely to be changed. However, beyond that, there was also an advanced settings menu or interface with options for power users. I genuinely miss that design paradigm because it offered flexibility to cater to more advanced users while keeping regular users relatively "safe" from themselves. Nowadays, the design paradigm is simplicity to the point of near uselessness for programs and Windows itself.
That would make more sense if the 9x control panel wasn't literally the same as the 11 advanced menus once you get past the crap menu gatekeeper.
Windows has ALWAYS done this...did everyone forget Windows Mistake Edition aka WinME where they tried to hand hold the users with a bazillion wizards, WinXP also known as the "Fisher Price OS" when it was released, or Windows 8 also known as "Hey did you hear Apple made a tablet? Yup so we are jumping on that bandwagon and making everything for touchscreens cuz we know that is all you'll ever want!"...🤦♂
But as long as Linux is a fractured mess where Linus Torvalds himself refuses to make his applications for it because the libraries and user space are about as stable as shifting sand it is Windows or OSX and at least with Windows you get to choose your hardware and not get charged $400+ for 8GB of RAM.
Windows users want control. The newer the version, the more watered down it's becoming. MS needs to understand that it's not Apple. Let Apple be Apple. Part of what made Windows great in the past was its versatility, its ability to run all kinds of programs. This chimera system of dumbed-down controls and advanced controls underneath doesn't work well. I'm jumping over to Linux once the utility goes away. It's a real shame at some point we won't have access to older programs, modding, games, and tasks like we once did. It's a shame Windows interface and functionality is so broken.
Microsoft is trying to do what Apple and Google do with their products; make it as simplified as possible for people who don’t, won’t and can’t understand tech at all.
That’s why many techies hates and it’s understandable.
I hear complaints about Win11 every day at work from people who can barely login and handle clicking on outlook and teams. It's a hell of a lot more then techie's who complain about it.
Microsoft doesn't know it, but they need to win back the tech community. That's where the developers, engineers, IT pros, tech savvy, etc. people are who understand what is really going on when Microsoft makes bad decision after bad decision. Those people are problem solvers. If something doesn't work, they fix it. Those are the people Microsoft has been pushing away from Windows. They've been using their abilities to make other options from cellphones, tablets, Macs, Linux, etc. much more viable than ever and the more Microsoft pushes them away, the more development for escaping Windows (and the Microsoft ecosystem as a whole) will happen.
I've seen many videos like this one talking about all the same issues with Windows from the lack of control to having to hack settings back into it to having to debloat it, etc. The tech community wants to be in full control over their systems, whether it be or work, or at home for their own tinkering and Microsoft is actively going out of the way to shut that down. Sooner or later, there's a tipping point where Microsoft is left on their own and a whole other world of options are now on the table for everybody. We're seeing these options really start to gain traction now as Windows 11 has pushed so many people away.
imagine thinking windows XP control panel is “too much power” to “break things” as opposed to my USB port stopped working on Windows 11 no matter how many drivers i reinstall…
Ultimately Microsoft thinking they’re going to cash out on me ever “signing in” to the most garbage email UI experience i’ve ever encountered to use the most garbage AI assistant on the most garbage OS in existence is a joke… they aren’t even competent at greed
Reading the news about Linux updates and features is exciting; reading the news about Windows updates is like "Oh no...". That says a lot
Office probably also means Office 365 subscriptions. Includes Entra etc. Companies using Windows for workstations and laptops pretty much all use it. Boxed copies of office arent really bought anymore as office 365 includes hosted Exchange. Exchange is a major PITA to run on-prem.
Almost everything is bad by design. software, hardware, and services.
Thanks monopolies.
I still love how, when you go 2-3 levels deep into any Microsoft config, you end up in a WIN32 window from 1998...
Here is the thing... W11 is slow... ever since im using linux... there is no comparison... like its not even a competition! ... W11 is a snail compare to linux btw.. i have garuda linux with plasma 6 on KDE... and there is also HDR ,,, HDR is way better on linux ... I still have W11 im dual booting but i dont using it anymore... everything is better on linux... Yes the linux is not perfect .. especially garuda, but still way better than windows .. im freaking in love with linux :)
I guess you don't do much on your pc
The thing is MS is making so many changes for the normals that even the normals that got use to the old ways, are now having essentially the same issues when they had all the options like in Win XP or 7. They could have kept windows pretty much the same and you'd hear less about people having issues finding this or that option like they do now. But thats not fun though.
They REMOVED the ability for taskbar to be run multiple lines. Windows 11 is WORSE than windows 10
The separation of desktop environments in Lunix distributions was first an alien concept to me, but now I do not understand why the different flavors of windows (Home, Professional, Ultimate) aren't catering to different kind of users by using different desktop environments (UIs). They shoot themselves into the foot trying to create the universal interface for everyone.
money driven society (not only IT) is a cancer of humanity in general. Imagine where humankind could be today if we were trying to "achieve that and this" instead "earn the most at any cost"
your point is invalid, imagine sending man to space while your family has nothing to eat. Communism is cancer
Ah, yes. I completely agree. Hard-core capitalism (and religion) will, in the end, be the primary drivers of humankind's downfall.

I've used Windows since version 3.1. Their design language has gotten worse over the years. It all started with the 8 version, when they introduce those god damn tiles. I also want my operating system to not get in the way of my workflow so that's why I use macOS and Linux for work and Windows for games only. It's extremely sad that they make this operating worse with each update. Funny story: a while ago I was editing a video on Premiere Windows version and I left my computer to make myself some tea. When I returned, it was in updating - restart mode. If I didn't have autosave on, I would've lost 3hrs of work.
4:10 uhm... that's not the Old School menus for settings. There are 3 generations of settings being demo'ed in the video. The white "Control Panel" resizable window is still the newer kneecapped settings (2nd gen settings). The even newer black window is just even more kneecapped than the white window (3rd gen settings). True Old School is Control Panel with the modal dialog boxes (1st gen), with one great example being the Sound modal dialog window shown at 4:56.
This is even more proof how atrocious the design team at M$ is.
W11 should've been the overhaul Windows needed. Instead it was just another 6 month update for Windows 10--with even slower UI--defeating the entire point of releasing a new OS.
Put a Win XP skin over Win 11. Yes Virginia, you can put lipstick on a pig.
14:10 Windows 8 was released in late 2012, not 2011. 2011 was when the Developer Preview build of Windows 8 was released. The Microsoft Store was called Windows Store during the Windows 8 days and the early days of Windows 10 until it was rebranded to its current name in September 2017.
My only issue with Linux is that 80% of software I use straight up doesn't run on it. Wine does not count - and even if it did, that still means 75% of my software doesn't run on it, because Wine doesn't actually work 9 out of 10 times.
Don't want 11, don't want Steam and don't want the MS Store shoved down my throat ... I want to own what I bought and my data
Win2k Pro was the best OS they ever released. Throwing DirectX etc on it was easy as hell. I remember that PC running for 4 years solid, no reboots outside Windows updates.
Windows 2k is still my favorite Windows by far too!
I LOVED the file preview it had.
It had a nice & clean interface.
And of course, it let me do what I wanted. It didn't push me to use a certain program or do it a certain way, or give misleading warnings to try to get me to use an MS app.
Windows 10- I open a picture & there's no longer the ability to open the next pic in the same window or even zoom easily. Everything seems to take more clicks in the later Windows.
I was thinking the same thing as I was watching the video. :-) I miss my old Win 2000 machine. I didn't know that computing could be so stable until then. I briefly ended up using a machine at work that had windows millennium on it, and that showed me just how unstable an operating system could be. 😀
Windows 10 sucked big time so of course windows 11 will be worse.
Over 680 Spyware & Telemtry things in Windows 10 you MUST Disable to use it safely and securely.
Not to mention the hassle of Uninstalling the Included Malware/Spyware (like Edge browser, Cortana, Onedrive and so on)
The hassle in permanently disabling windows updates unless i want an Update i actually require.
Having to install Windows 7 Start bar on windows 10 and Disable other Windows 10 crap.
Personally i just want the windows 7 GUI. It was the best.
Well interesting thing is you can patch the dlls in Windows 7 to install custom theme, that was favorite thing about 7. 8 have it too, but it seems more restricted.
switched to linux today, have windows installed for 2 programs, once those work on linux probably will never touch windows again
ive been encountering more and more issues trying to debloat 11 it makes the system unstable they just want you to leave all the bloat and all the telemetry on.
I think where Windows went wrong was they were trying to copy some Linux interfaces and just did a terrible job at it
My PC at work was recently updated to 11 and I really dislike it. Not being able to apply the little tweaks that I do at home sucks!
Windows went from a computer company to a marketing and advertising company. DATA hungry all the time!
Microsoft has just become very arrogant towards end users.
Most recent Windows 10 update completely broke Easy AntiCheat. My event viewer is also broken... service just can't be started.
Feels like I'm being forced to upgrade, and I've been avoiding Win11 like the plague. I didn't have an upcoming expiration to my key, but it went invalid anyway. I reactivated it with massgrave.
Pretty much gotta update to a clean install (and new key apparently) to move to Windows 11 if I want 50% of my games to work now, thanks to EAC deciding it won't trust my Windows10. Garbage app, doesn't even stop real cheaters. Undeserving industry-leader.
Everytime I get a windows update, something breaks.
Either my OBS changes my mic and its now not working, my GPU panel is no longer avaiable from the desktop or OBS dslr camera stops working.
Windows has made it so I hope the company goes bankrupt so they stop pushing updates. (an exaggeration, I use my pc in a much less power user kinda way than years ago, but I still pray for the day lord Gaben will save us with proton and I can leave this windows jail).
if i need to relearn a lot when upgrading to Windows 11, then i might aswell switch to some flavor of Linux LOL. a lot of my friend uses w11 and when i use it i'm confused, like a lot of icon is different, and hiding some menu behind those fancy Ui. i'm not even a power user, but my god w11 is so unintuitive, heck even when i move from 7 to 8.1 i don't need to learn anything since they only remove the start menu, and moving from 8.1 to 10 is so easy!. as soon as steam drop support for windows 10, i'm switching to Linux! i may still use dual boot w10, but it's only for Adobe stuff
They need to make a "I know what I'm doing" mode for Windows. It would solve everything.
Sheeeesh what is that beautiful wallpaper?
Windows has poor multi-language support. If Windows is installed with one language .. even if you install additional display languages, parts of the OS will remain in the original installation language no matter what. Something so simple that works on any other OS (macOS, Linux) where changing language is a simple thing. On Windows it is absolutely horrendous
I think Windows is great. It will pay for my retirement because I work in IT. I use Linux at home, of course.
I see a new full-time Linux user in our midst 😏.
It's a real shame music production isn't there yet on Linux. I'm on Fedora KDE full time, and music is the only really inadequate area I can see.
Bitwig Studio, Reaper, RE-noise, PreSonus Studio One........ pipewire audio....Blackmagic..... It's there, you're just not using it ( because, probably ).
I run Fedora as well, and niche work and hobbyist software is the only thing we're missing. We need to just make our own alternatives. The more people that decide to switch completely over to Linux, the more this will happen.
@@notjustforhackers4252lmms is good too just because its free and open source, but i cant say anything about how good it is because of the fact that i dont make music
FL Studio installer with Bottles + yabridge = problem solved (for me that is..)
yoooooo KOTOR spotted, absolutely incredible game. ^w^
And this is the reason I pirated Windows related software i.e. Microsoft Office for many many many many years and many many many many more years to come. If you're actually paying that $99 plus sales tax yearly subscription fee then you're a bigger fool than the biggest of fools. Don't give Microsoft any money whatsoever even if you like their products and want to support them, just don't do it, that's my strongest suggestion I can muster.
Cheers 🍻
I'm a game dev who upgraded one of my PCs to W11, and absolutely regret it. They've dumbed it down even further than I thought was possible. Even the context menu is hidden, where you have click twice to reach normal secondary actions. I also use a custom quick-launch-style system. Where you have to right click the task bar and choose Toolbars -> Add new toolbar. All of that is gone in W11. I had to install an open source extension to get the functionality back. I used to support Microsoft because they made the best stuff, but that just isn't the case anymore. We need a new OS company that is smart enough to run windows apps on their OS. Maybe some competition will kick MS back on track.
I disagree with making the shell open-source. What I would _rather_ is the capability to use alternate shell interfaces. Back in my Windows 98 days I installed and used LiteStep for a bit. Which is why when I see desktops using NeXTStep I have some fondness for them. I didn't stick with using LiteStep, but I liked _the idea._
The open-source space has so much going for it. They have GNOME Shell, KDE Plasma, Xfce (another GTK 2+3 desktop), Mate (as in the tea, basically, older GNOME 2 UI), Cinnamon, and soon even COSMIC. Not all of the acronyms mean anything worth a damn anymore, but that doesn't matter if you like using it. I like Xfce. The dude in this video like Plasma. Brodie Robertson has an affinity toward COSMIC because their alpha's really solid. We all have these awesome things and Windows users don't get to have it, which I find sad.
Macos tries to be good but has some weird decisions and walled garden toxicity.
Linux tries to provide a good experience but has a desktop stack developed by volunteers and amateurs.
Windows is malicious by design, even it's "dominance" over gaming is mainly due to closed standards like directx.
Linux might be done by volunteers and amateurs but they often do better then Microsoft.
@@bradmiles1984 not really, both the windows display server and audio system are vastly superior to Xorg and pulseaudio.
@@happygofishing You do know most people now use wayland and pipewire, your comparing windows current systems to old systems in linux which aren't the standard anymore.
@@bradmiles1984 yes pipewire is great software, but wayland is unfinished and don't even try to convince me otherwise. Maybe once basic features like setting window icons and accessibility etc are finished, it will be a suitable replacement.
@@bradmiles1984Wayland is even worse.
Windows just said that my 1080ti equipped PC does not meet the minimum requirements for their amazing win11. So I went Linux.
you probably just need to enable some things in the bios (safe boot and tpm)
@@willrein You don't want Microsoft taking control of your hardware via the TMP. Best leave it off.
@@notjustforhackers4252 well, there's the option to create a bootable pendrive with rufus and enable the option to ignore these requirements if needed
You can install a 1080ti in ANY pc with a PCI-e slot, doesn't really say a lot dude.
@@StayMadNobodycares Oh nooo. I didn't know that.
14:08 microsoft had other atempts of making an store...
like games for windows live...
but it sucked so bad that no one wanted to use it.
Windows 10 modified with ChrisTitus Winutils to turn services to manual, ultimate power plan, install programs like eartrumpet, powertoys, sysinternals suite, modernflyouts , sharex, coretemp, older office suite, O&O Shutup, some GPO settings like verbose login, small icons and of course Firefox w ublock origin etc as default browser... Windows 10 is really good and Win11 would be too showing your own setup looks really nice. The worry is if MS will block any of that stuff.
They won't, powershell is highly used by computer enthusiasts and in the IT space. All of what you're saying here is used by powershell scripts.
An Average Normie and Boomers wouldn't care about that type of stuff. That's where Microsoft is making most of their money from.
Most boomers are developers. They are the ones who pioneered the whole computer industry and coding.
if linux exists, why would i go through the trouble of hacking win, and then new patch comes and reverts everything and go all over again.. win is ok for gaming only and that is it.. and you can do major of the gaming on linux also..
@@RaineWilderAnd that's the ironic part...
Your post is really hard to read, and has a bunch of pointless fluff not related to actually customizing the OS UI (like sharex, coretemp, etc). O&O shutup I also don't recommend and it can break some things and block actually harmless stuff, because it's so overzealous about "privacy". Power profile is also completely irrelevant.
WinAero Tweaker is something you should look into if you don't know of it. Gives vibes of that old XdN Tweaker tool.
I can't remember the last time I watched your videos, for some reason RUclips stopped serving them up some time back. I've been subbed forever and alerts have been on too..
How is your game development coming along Ward? Are you using C#? Think you could make a game development tutorial video going over the basics?
Just give me something that looks like Windows 2000 or XP with the old theme, but with modern stuff going on behind the scenes and no telemetry. The modern UI rendering is such a waste of power. Using 3D acceleration for a flat interface. And with Windows 7 widgets.
That's my main complaint! Still having the old win 7 dialogs with the new modern ones. Hate it!
That''s fun and shows how much they care.
@@joseoncrack remember why did they place a store
is mostly for Windows 10 S and WIndows 11 S
not for most users as it may reminds them of App Store
The fact that Windows is set up to get on it and get work done is exactly what they want and it was highly successful. Most non tech savvy people do not want to tweak their system. They don't want to worry about their settings, or how it looks like as long as they can do their job, or easily access the programs they need to get their job done. The whole UI and menu systems are basically a nerd thing. Normies don't care and Windows knows it. As far as making money, of course that's the goal. No non tech cares about open source. Hell, I bet most of the "techies" on RUclips don't know enough programming to actually view the "open source." The open source argument means absolutely nothing to your average Joe.
They've been making money from different avenues since forever. Like you said, it isn't about the operating system. It's about the services they hope you buy. I smiled when you told the story about the 'WIFI'. Using Linux as main, Windows for audio editing, music production, and video editing.
You know? I have a great idea. Microsoft should make 2 versions for sale:
HOME - for home normie users
PROFESSIONAL - for users who want options and know a little better what they are doing.
Crazy, they could serve both markets then. It's like some big IT corporation already had such structure but for some reason decided to shit on their users.
I sometimes wish the techtubers would get together and form a coalition to pressure Microsoft into making these changes. Like you said, they don't even need to do it for the Home users. I'd even be happy to give them my $200 for Pro if it actually let me turn off all the bloat and advertising more easily and let me properly customize my overall Windows experience.
I once sat in on a Microsoft tech support call for business. It was an Indian woman reading off of a script.
Quite the revenue for Office though. They could improve windows in many options and customization ways, actually update those old style windows for settings and properties too. Could be made super easy with PowerToys but just nicely done options settings menu in general for everything. Maybe also make it free at this point too for consumer users.
This is why I triple-boot windows 10, 11, and Linux, and I have started to push my stuff back over to Windows 10 because it's much more responsive on my laptop. I have been pestered to upgrade several times, but I keep hitting "Stay on Windows 10 for now", and if I need to use Win11, I just restart into it, do whatever I need to do on it, and then go back.
Don't really agree with these takes, or at least not to an extent I'd label Windows 11 is bad. While old school me dislikes the inflexibility of like the Start Menu when I used to like to customize every little thing that Windows would let me back in the '98 days, looking at my modern usage of it, I pretty much only use the keyboard to open and use search to instant open whatever I need. I've not gone in there using my mouse cursor and browse through the different folders in years, so TBH I don't really care.
I've no problem with the modern normie settings. They can be useful to handle simple things because they're not as cluttered so stuff is easier to find in them, but I'm also glad there's still the good old Control Panel for if I need to dig a little deeper. There's no jumping through hoops involved. I can access the Control Panel or other advanced settings just as quickly as I do the normie settings.
Been using Windows for nearly 3 decades and never got a single ad. I don't know what people are doing or going to claim Windows uses its platform to bombard you with ads, because I'm not seeing it. But I also pretty much never use Windows Store. If I need a game, I use Steam. If I need software, I get it off their website. Looking at what Microsoft gets money from, I can safely say they're not making anything off me outside of the OEM key. Pirated Office, I don't use Xbox, or Azure, or LinkedIn, and I don't use their built-in search for online searches either, and my browser's adBlock is enabled 24/7 anytime.
While I wouldn't be against more customisability (the idea of moving it to the pro version is pretty good TBH), I can't say I care enough either, as long as it gets the job done for me. Yeah, it kind of sucks the taskbar and the icons on them is like 20% bigger than I'd like it to be, but it's also not going to cause me to claim the new Windows is bad. It's like... whatever. Could be better, could be a lot worse too. Will probably be building a new PC in 3-4 years from now, so going to keep an eye out on developments. If Windows does decide to go to hell during that time, I'll probably consider Linux for my next build.
Congrats on being the stereotypical human in fantasy with high adaptability. I envy you.
For those of us who aren't.. especially folks with autism (hi), well, it's a major major issue.
I stayed on older OS versions until enough software just plain ceased working anymore. Same with browsers (and even moreso, since directwrite ruined font rendering). That was the only time I forced an upgrade, and then I had to find even more software/extensions to get things back to how they were, because god forbid a company leave working things alone. Dealing with change drives tons of anxiety through me to the point I can just breakdown, I can't stand it. Companies don't have people like me even as a fragment of an atom in their brain. I upgraded to W10 via the accessibility route, and it was LESS accessible than Vista/7.
To this very day I still do things that were last possible in XP. To this very day I'm still negatively impacted by changes made in Vista (like dragging icons and it not grabbing the icon despite highlighting it).
Change without options (especially if it HAD options) should never be how you design software. If it is, then don't release it to the public, because it's not designed for anyone but yourself. I'd call the people that do this terminal narcissists.
@@AceStrife I have in fact autism, I just learn to adapt. It's about learning to pick your battles, when to know to move on and accept the new alternative because at the end of the day it's still giving you the same results. Okay, maybe the new Windows doesn't let me change the icons in places where I used to, but do I need it to be productive on my PC? No... I'll manage just fine. If anything, I can do way more things on my latest system than I could on any of my previous systems even if a few things got cut along the way. Count your blessings, and all.
GNOME is a good temper-proof desktop. They don't let you do sweet FA to customise it.
The Windows 10 was updated from a Windows 8.2 retail, so I did call tech support when it broke my computer with persistent forced updates to an incompatible video driver. The entire tone of the call about that and something creepier I had just discovered that Windows had been up to, was that Microsoft wanted me to buy them a newer and better computer to take over. And that my takeaway was that it was time to format away every last byte of their malware and complete my migration to Linux.
I drives me NUTS when everybody calls the internet "Wi-Fi".
Everytime I go on reddit to ask a question about my windows 10 or windows 8 device, I am mocked and ridiculed for not downloading and using windows 11. What is wrong with Reddit? Why are people so tribal, in extremely idiotic ways?
Windows 8 doesn't get security updates anymore, so you really shouldn't use that.
Because Reddit is full of astroturfers , shills, and consumerist booktlickers.
@@cookieface80 As long as you are offline or at least sensible when online it is still fine, same with win 7. I still use win 7 sometimes with no issues.
They just consooom product without question. Its the same people that buy new smartphones or shoes etc whenever a new one is out even when they don't need it and even if it is worse than the previous model. They just want things because it is new and or a trend.
@realityvanguard2052 thats because most all of reddit should be viewed as a bunch of know-it-all high school cliques that can't critically think outside their own circle jerk. If you sit at 'their' lunch table you better be drinking the same flavor of kool-aid, or else.
Hey Logan, did you see the Startallback dev re-created the classic taskbar? So now that it'll be removed from Windows source code, it's not longer a problem. Plus it's an insanely faithful recreation. Don't mean to shill, I just like the app.
The windows store came out in 2012 with Windows 8, but it was only tablet apps at that point. When windows 10 released in 2015, that's when the Windows store truly launched, alongside UWP apps
I use 10 on my main desktop and have 11 on a new laptop. Nothing wrong with 10 for your personal use for a while still even with updates stopping next year. It doesn’t suddenly kill it.
They do "make a lot of money by making an os to eat to break" is called: buy a new laptop, *pay a new license.*
Windows (by design) gets slower over time. *Most people don't know that's software related.*
It's thankfully possible to mitigate- at least for the most part.
I have one, just for kicks, never reinstalled, just updated 8 -> 8.1 -> 10 home -> 10 pro laptop.
It's adorably quirky, and it runs surprisingly well- better than some cheap new laptops.
Might grab that install and update it to 11 sometime, just to keep the quirky going.
*WIndoze 11 sux but windoze 8 swallowed.*
Started using Linux back in 2008 Hardy Heron 8.04 LTS as I hated Windows Vista, loved Windows XP and to a lesser degree Windows 7.
Hated the Unity interface with later Linux distros, so I defected to *Linux Mint XFCE*
Windows 8 was a complete abomination, still have nightmares trying to troubleshoot friends pcs using that joke of an OS (Remember the charms bar/gesture/interface which was a complete piece of cr@p). In fact I'd argue that Windows 8 was the compliance test for Windows 10/11
Microsoft can pull this off especially because no one at large is really willed to either switch operating systems or to semi protest by staying with an older version.
Remember when tons of people still stuck with XP or 7 because no one liked how Metro UI was executed in 8 and even 8.1 still? The reason why we've got a proper desktop and a classic (albeit bloated) startmenu back with 10 is because Microsoft noticed how badly they tanked with the concept that Windows 8.x had.
Even without Linux in the whole picture, we can actually push Microsoft to do certain things different if people would just stop eating everything they throw out.
That's why I don't use windows anymore.

What I fail to understand is Microsoft has trained us to use windows for decades. Then out of the blue they change the whole UI doesn’t make sense. I’m very pc savvy have built many machines. I set up a win 11 system and had to google every function it’s ridiculous
