DECAP Talks Making Drums That Knock, Not Relying on Getting Placements to Get Rich + More

- Опубликовано: 1 июл 2024
- Interview with Decap, the producer that created the famous Drums that knock drum kit. Decap pulled up on us at the studio while he was in Atlanta to drop gems on the Producergrind community. We talked a lot more about sound design than usual including the current trend where producers are recording sounds from real life with a field recorder and turning them into free trap drum kits.
We also got Decap to tell his journey from when he first started making beats to figuring out how to get sync placements (his first real income from music) and later to getting placements as a producer with DaBaby, Joyner Lucas & more.
Now a days Decap spends his time as a successful music producer helping the community with his FL Studio & Ableton Live tutorial videos as well as his Splice drum kit series "Drums That Knock." He has created a 6 figure yearly income by building his personal brand as a music producer NOT by chasing placements or trying to get signed.

🔥 interview guys, thanks for having me on the show!
DECAP 💪💪✊✊ yessir my guy
Thanks once again.
Decap the man!!!

DECAP fellow scorpio Producer 🦂 Speaking things into existence🙌. Great Podcast, I'm more inspired and my lady says your great. Good job keep it up and never stop, same to you Dylan and the ProducerGrind crew. Everything is fire 🔥🔥
I started making beats 9 months ago started this acct quit my job, and yes i am broke af but i am no longer poor. my mentality has evolved, and showed me the potential that the mind has, and its only the start... ive only made $1200 so far, i lost a girlfriend, my car, but im the happiest i ever been, and my numbers keep rising.. its possible, and im way ahead in this than i would have been if i stayed at my job fucking around, and treating music like a side hoe.. Treat music with loyalty, and music will treat you like royalty! These interviews are Gold.. if you havent read think, and grow rich i advice you read it, and you will see ProducerGrind is our Napoleon Hill! Much love dont quit your time is coming if you put in the time!!!! Be yourself, and tell your truths..
stay grinding homie.
Long Live Kikin 🔥🔝
Yeah but how are you paying rent? Where are you living?
@@maverickbeats2226 i moved back in with my dad and gave up the life i had but its worth the risk. why pay rent, and stay in a 9-5 career for 40 years when i can lock in for 4 yrs take the L of living with my dad, and repay him back with a better lifestyle i build for us.
@@LongLiveKikin I see you posting consistently on IG, keep it up bro, much respect for taking the step
Producers please don't quit school or your job remember music is a hobby until you make it as a career don't get caught up with the hype make sure your priorities are good make sure you have money in your pocket love music for the art don't be in rush take your don't let other people opinions destroy you to make the wrong decisions stay humble stay positive don't worry about the money it's going to come when you make it learn the business before you get in the read your contracts have a lawyer be a business person be original don't be somebody you not be yourself love yourself peace.
I agree with what you said but If you feel that you can quit then do it , just do it but do it in the right way like he said above
TyshawnTv good post!
Facts homie!
nah it dont work that way.. its just like becoming a doctor bro. you need to be focused, and 100% in it to win it.. You dont want to create a paycheck you want to create a brand, and have money work for you.. if you aint into what youre doing at school or at your job you wasting your valuable time.. You want to be a pro, or a hobbyist??? That mentality of until its a career is always going to keep you as a hobbyist... you need to already know you want to be a professional producer or whatever it is you want to be.
@@LongLiveKikin some of us still gotta provide and eat homie
Had a Music Law class with this dude in SF a few years back. Super cool guy, very friendly and always very interested in the topics we were speaking about. Crazy that at the time he was just starting to organize the first of his drum kits, and now Drums That Knock is a production standard.

Shout to Producergrind2.0 and Decap!!! A lot of real situation that everyone won't admit or talk about are covered and great advise. Definitely felt like I was there, prime example of what you guys said about the book. and if you haven't seen Cymatics Podcast with Decap you should. Due to most people talk about the same thing but both of these platforms are very different in styles of journalism. SO KEEP IT STRONG. NO CAP

wow him talking about how there is a lane for the people who just make beats for just listening is really inspiring , that's a battle ive been going through ever since i first started making music but hearing him just reassures me that it will work out one day just cant give up on it
I can relate to him when he says that he’s a big “why” person. I constantly ask why, and have always wanted to know things.
This interview was excellent! It's been great watching the ProducerGrind crew grow and develop. Decap the man, Bay Area in the Building!

Decap that dude for real. 💯🔥🔥🔥🔥
Thanks bro I was cooking up when you mentioned some of the plugins that fast distortion is fire !
This interview was filled with nothing but 💎's! Appreciate you DECAP for the tips tricks and knowledge you gave in this podcast interview brotha! I would love to catch a DECAP Masterclass whether it be about networking on or offline, learning different approaches to opportunities. Which ones to take, and which ones to be weary of. Learning more about my DAW (FL, or possibly Ableton or another DAW). I resonate with DECAP in a lot of ways but to be real outside of that it would just be cool to just chop it up with him over Insta live vid or something ya know.
Dope interview happy ya'll touched on less talked about aspects like sound design, and DAWs. 🔥🔥🔥 Carringtons questions and comment had me weakkkkkkkk "I'd be a Honey Smokey Barbecue Potato Chip" Lmaooo major pause. Good job guys this episode what informative and funny.
Jay Jean lmaoooo “major pause” 💀💀🤣🤣 Will he redeem himself on the next episode? 🤔 Find out next week 👀👀
Producer Grind good ass interview. Never stop man 💪🔥👏
Scooter1 cant stop wont stop ✊😤

This was very inspiring. Thank you!
Dope Interview🔥💯
Man when JB dropped that truth at 51:00 🔥 I love how honest that shit was and how he challenged the perspective. What a fucking G.
Even as a bassist, I use Cap's workflow in my day to day. Follow your path, meditate on it, build your brand, and execute. Easier said than done, but you just gotta do it.
Decap is the best. Super knowledgeable and well spoken. One of the best interviews you guys have done. Great questions. Way better than the cymatics podcast they did with him
sound design legend !
DECAP is such a humble dude. Love that he shouted out @KBeaZy too
Evan the Buddha broo is so humble and cool frfr
Youngins need to listen to Decap. Great interview.
Keep the info coming!
He definitely gave away a lot of game, you guys have the best show forreal
this guy gave me my go to open hat !! thank you!!
Man this is priceless!
Yooo the hr16 is classic, I got one now but I started on the SR16. My first sampler was the SP202 and I picked it up with the DR202 and a DX27 for keys.
This has to be a sign from above I never thought to just go ahead and make everything from scratch I been laying sounds and drums for years time to get to it I got a lot of work ahead of me #2020vision
The Man, The Myth, The Legend
DRUMS THAT KNOCK!!!!
salute
Great gems bro!
Already fucks with DECAP 2 mins in for schooling the youngsters on Cool Edit and paste/mix-paste beat making. I started producing on Sound Forge which is the same thing. A single Wave editor. You would have to take a one shot hi hat and then add silence after the one shot. The length of the silence would determine your BPM. So then you would create a 4 bar loop out of that by copying & pasting that one shot 1 after another. Next, you would mix-paste your kick, snare, cymbals, etc. into the hi hat loop to create the pattern. Then you could layer in keys, bass, and whatever else all one one single track.
Only 30 minutes into this interview but it's changing my perspective and making me realize my goals and confidence in succeeding from music.
that's amazing fam
@@Producergrind Bro wtf this video was posted 9 months ago you made my day 🙌
This dude is super chill
Can tell he a real one, cool ass dude
Cool Edit 💪 I used to have to rap over 10 second WAV loops lol
the note app in your smartphone is everything
Philosophical af. Gems were being missed I felt. A key takeaway here is TIME. 'Cap done put in hella time of ups and downs.
I learned mad shit from DECAP. Respect!!! 🔥
