"And, yes, this is extra, but some of ya'll folks are extra ..." my favorite quote of the whole video! Thanks for this walk-through. Super entertaining and helpful as always.
I have made this quilt from individual pieces of fabric. It was a class and I was happy to learn to do it that way, especially as I learned how to tame the bias when putting it together. However I would love to make the next one using your method. I am not fussed by perfect or imperfect points. I care more about colour and making a beautiful functional quilt. Thank you for another great tutorial.
You are such a delight, I found this video when I was making my first lone star and now I’m on my second, so this video will be in heavy rotation again! thanks for explaining the math! I love that you share with us so we can really understand why we’re doing what we’re doing.
I've been looking for a good Lone Star tutorial and watched so many for three hours. Finally, I landed here - Yours is the best and fastest lesson. I like that your star uses the most different fabric choices - 12 - with the center and tips different. You also created the biggest star. Then, best of all, your fabric choices are just divine! Thank you soooo much.
My grandmother (from Tx) gave me a Lone Star quilt when I was born. It will be 60 years old this year! I think i will make one this year using your tutorial!
Matthew, you totally take the mystery out of these projects! I’ve said it before... you are a fantastic teacher! I wish you were in my area teaching workshops but I am so blessed to be able to watch you on you tube! Thank you! I absolutely love your new “catch & release” line- beautiful!😉👍🏼
Thank you for the video and the pattern! I've started working on this quilt for my 8 yo daughter. She chose the fabric so there's dancing bananas, tacos, and sushi lol! I'll share pictures when I've finished. Thank you!
WHAT? OMG, I am so glad I came upon this video, Mr. Domestic! They're all fantastic, but I have a 40 year old UFO that I can finish now based upon your simple directions...the squares were giving me fits. No Y seams here. Thanks for explaining it so simply. Deeply appreciated. YOU'RE WONDERFUL! And your fabric selections make me want to start another...but I'll finish this one first :-)
here for my 2nd lonestar via your tutorial. best tutorial and info sheet for this around, i would NEVER have tried this without you. thank you. I now sleep under my 1st one every night.
Another grand tutorial. I am just beginning my quilting journey and all your tips, shortcuts and encouragement make it much less daunting. Thank you Mathew!
First time quilter.. was doing so good cutting until somehow I managed to cut 2 panels the wrong angle. Awesome tutorial, gave me the incentive to try. Thanks
Wow, now that makes it look like a really fun quilt to dig into! I have long wanted to make one of these quilts and love the geometry of it all. I just never saw it as a short term project. My grandmother made one and it felt like it took forever to get finished. Now it’s my turn and you just made the points seem like a no brainer! Or is it just that my math skills are so much better now a days. 😊 Either way, thank you for another great set of tips and tricks. Your happy conversation and laughter really are a blessing to my day.
Thank you for your awesome tutorial! I'm about half way through my first lone star quilt top. Your instructions made it seem almost too easy for something that looks so complicated. 👍
Dang Mr. D, how did you make this look so easy. I've always loved Lone Star Quilts but they always look so time intensive. Even the easy ones looked so hard. And a free pattern to go along with this neato tutorial. My daughter just got engaged and unfortunately will be moving to Texas (I live in Illinois). This will look good in their house. They want a log cabin. This would be a great gift for their wedding or housewarming. Maybe I'll bribe them to stay in IL with this quilt but it wouldn't make as much sense here as in the Lone Star State I suppose. Oh well, thanks again for showing the OCD way as well as the way I will probably use. :-)
MD, You are a genius in the color matching, the scale, the demo & the joy you bring. I wish I could do it, but I'm a ways away. Practice is the key & we've had alot of free time w/Covid to get in some practice. I bought a diamond ruler but it is 60 degrees. LOL. I do have a 45 degree marking on my ruler. Next time I'll take notes. Thanks & Be Blessed!💜🧡♥️💛
Thanks so much for your pattern. This is the way I made my Lone Star. Your's came out fabulous! Love the colors you used. I love not having to use the set in squares.
Thanks Mr D your tutorials are so nice to watch you are an natural teacher plus I adore your laugh it makes me smile and giggle along with you. Oops had to edit as I forgot to say the quilt is absolutely Devine I adore the colours
OMG!! I love this tutorial so much!! I've always wanted to make a lone star quilt but found it confusing. You made is so easy to understand. Thank you :)
Wonderful tutorial- so clear, I'm feeling very confident! I don't see a link you mention for measurements. How much yardage for backing if I follow this tutorial closely?
Another great video with easy to follow instructions! I love lone stars too! Actually my favorite is any pattern or design that looks complicated but are actually very easy! Love doing them and everything thinking you worked so hard and actually you didn't!!
EXCELLENT tutorial!!! All quilters should keep this in their saved forever videos. How big was your finished quilt and how do you go about making the actual star larger???
First, THANK YOU for the basting trick you used. I'm OCD enough to want those 'perfect points' in a quilt I make. Second, I saw in the pattern that it was for a 60" x 60" quilt. Which is a 'Throw Quilt' size. I want to make one of these for a full size bed, so it would need to be 85" x 108". How do I adjust the pattern for that so I know how much fabric to buy and how many strips and squares are needed?
Awwww your laugh gets me laughing!! Love love love this quilt. I tried to do a quilt using a y seam on tumbling blocks. Big big fail. Any ideas on the cut up pieces (tons of them)? They were cut at a 60 degree angle.
Hello M B. I just found your Tutorial fit This Lonestar Quilt. This is the best I have ever seen. I am ready to cut. But I cannot download the pattern and I don’t know how much fabric I will need in every colour. Could you please help me?😊
This is on my list of quilts to do. You just made it seem doable. Thank you!
You rock thank you sooop much this is my next quilt
Check out Jorden fabrics tutorial for the lone star
You are definitely the funnest lone star instructor I’ve looked up, plus easy to follow instructions. This video is on my bucket list. 🎯

I have been stressing out over the Lone Star pattern for YEARS. But now with your instructions I've got the courage to "go for it". Thank you!

I want to make my first lone star. Your video is the BEST instruction I have seen, and I have seen many. Thank you for your step by step lesson.
I'm just watching this for the third time. I just LOVE your energy and your dialogue just makes my day!
I made this quilt about 25 years ago, using your second method, no glue, no marking. It came out just great.
You make me smile when I watch your videos. Thank you for keeping us sane.
Thank you for the video and the pattern! I've started working on this quilt for my 8 yo daughter. She chose the fabric so there's dancing bananas, tacos, and sushi lol! I'll share pictures when I've finished. Thank you!
You gave me the courage to continue with the mess I made with this lone star!!! Getting started… thank you!!! 🙏🏼💕
This is doable!!!!!! You explained everything perfectly and very easy for a beginner to understand and follow. Thank you!!!!! -Sheri J.
