yup, Singapore despite their economic success, their economy is easily railed. they can't afford to risk their efficient heavily specialized planning over huge changes. efficient yes, flexibility none. high risk in the fast change global dynamic.
With Russia and China it would be „Non-Rules-Order“ They accept only their rules. When a dictator like Putin or XiPing has no respect for the citizens of its own country - sacrificing half a million young men in a dirty colonial war in the Ukraina / torturing 1 Mio Uighures in concentration camps - when they poison and murder opponents - why should they respect you? They respect only brutal power. We Europeans make our own rules and USA often enough hates it - but we can do it because we have overcome our historical enmities and formed the EU. When do your Asians overcome your traditional enmities? With every neighbor-country you have frictions and hostilities. Imagine Japan, Korea, China, Taiwan, Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia would be all stabil democracies and found an Union of Asia? Imagine the economic power of this Union. Instead of blubbering about western dominance you must notice how you hamper yourself with your silly disunity.
It's not anti-western movement, but rather to take control of our own economies especially among developing countries. When was the last time you heard developing countries changed to developed countries? So many developing countries facing middle-income trap, including Malaysia, despite doing good economically. What prevented them? This is the list I can think of: 1) Dependency on US dollar - Depending on US dollar has pros and cons, but one of the cons is it will usually benefit US dollar in terms of value, and any other country's interest rate also may need to follow US interest rate, to balance that country's currency value VS dollar, making local companies suffers due to expensive loan cost. One of the example I can think of is what happened to Turkiye (due tried to balance VS both US dollar and Euro). 2) Developing countries will always be target of sanctions - Iran, Russia, Libya, South Sudan, North Korea, Cuba, Syria, Venezuela, Lebanon, Yemen, Iraq, Belarus, etc, either fully sanctioned or categorically sanctioned, even some of Malaysia's companies got banned by US (companies in other countries also may be listed as banned, but I am don't have the list), and China also always been threatend to trade ban, or high tariff, its only matter of time these countries will work together and not depending on the western countries. What does anything produced in western countries which can't be produced the same in these countries? EU always trying to limit the number of trade goods into EU market, for example palm oil products facing many regulations and propaganda, which we know the ultimate purpose is to balance trade EU and non-EU. 3) Dependency on western-funded monetary bodies - IMF is known as money lenders to developing countries, but many don't realize how high the interest rate is, many developing countries had difficulties paying back the loan, for example after Asian financial crisis 1997. Asian countries or developing countries need their own monetary fund, where they can help each other economies to grow, rather than to make money. I understand Singapore is over-exposed to western economies, and Indonesia in contra, I think is less vulnurable to western economy and politic, so no need to take unnecessary risk. Which is why the reason, they won't join Brics, but countries like Malaysia now need to make choice either to continue highly dependent to western economies, or rise together with other developing countries. Indonesia may not need to make this choice right now, but they may need to in future. Malaysia is not anti-western, but we need more diversification in terms of economics partner. We are too small to be self-independent, yet its not smart too much dependent to only one side.
My answer to the question, why not?? Malaysia and Thailand are thinking of their currency being manipulated by the US Dollar although our enonomic fundimental is good. Anyway malaysia and Thailand can always trade with US and euro. Why would Malaysia be interested in joining BRICS, given the reasons above?

Indonesia does not prohibit its entrepreneurs from investing outside the country, this is very important if Indonesia wants to become an ASIAN POWER. Indonesia's policy is very stupid, they don't have a monopoly policy like China and the US. Indonesia experiences money leaks every year, they send money to Saudi Arabia, Singapore, the Philippines, Cambodia, Thailand. They are not professional people to manage that much natural resources. Indonesians gamble online every year, equivalent to India's military budget every year. And the servers are in ASEAN countries, such as Cambodia, the Philippines, Singapore, Malaysia. Under BRICS requirement, Singapore is not qualify to under their condition as it does not have population count and only a small state that does not carry any weight. Join or not join, not a problem and it is not because Singapore voted in UN against Russia. These are big games that BIG countries play and even Indonesia does not feel they wanted to be in such an event.
Now it is perfectly alright to join if you are ready. When the time comes to be counted and the big countries will begin to take its places every countries will toss its weight around to be the Head and leads and as the saying goes in a western cowboy & Indians movies everyone wanted to be the chief, who wants to be the Indians? Singapore is a financial hub with very low manufacturing investment. The BRIC nations possess high GDP in manufacturing spectrum that make sense to enjoy the free trade rule. Singapore adds value to BRIC as clearing house for financial work.
it actually because Indonesia and Singapore just have leadership change, defining trade policies would not be the first on the order of things to deal with. Indonesia and Singapore has presence in G20, so there is also no hurry to join BRICS+, we can join in the future. however Thailand and Malaysia does not have a seat on any global body, so BRICS+ member is the only way to get their POV heard on the global stage. Reason Number 7 and the real reason. The Malaysian ruling party sees this as an opportunity to score political points with both the anti-West and pro-China elements of its population (which are both rather strong due to toxic racial and religious politics endemic in Malaysia) in order to win the next election. Plenty of the Temasek's assets are in Wall St companies and/or denominated in US$ 😅😅
It's not anti-western movement, but rather to take control of our own economies especially among developing countries. When was the last time you heard developing countries changed to developed countries? So many developing countries facing middle-income trap, including Malaysia, despite doing good economically. What prevented them? This is the list I can think of:
1) Dependency on US dollar - Depending on US dollar has pros and cons, but one of the cons is it will usually benefit US dollar in terms of value, and any other country's interest rate also may need to follow US interest rate, to balance that country's currency value VS dollar, making local companies suffers due to expensive loan cost.
Bravo

OECD is under the US umbrella.
@@absolootely2571 Indonesia adheres to a non-aligned policy regarding foreign relations. Not an ally of America, China or Russia. However, the OECD has more advantages than BRICS.
1. The OECD offers more opportunities to strengthen economic ties with more stable international partners, which is in line with Indonesia's vision to develop the national economy in a stable and sustainable framework.
2. Within BRICS, there are a number of disagreements between members, such as the border conflict between China and India, which could hinder economic cooperation.

Singapore uses lots of Bricks to build HDB's flats.

WHICH NATIONS WANT TO JOIN BRICS AND WHY?
Over 40 countries, including Iran, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Argentina, Algeria, Bolivia, Indonesia, Egypt, Ethiopia, Cuba, Democratic Republic of Congo, Comoros, Gabon, and Kazakhstan have expressed interest in joining the forum, according to 2023 summit chair South Africa.
You are totally wrong about today’s Indonesia. It is not at all neutral. It is very aligned with US. It will take sometime for Indonesia to realize what they are missing.
Really? I would say Indonesia is somewhat alligned towards China, and mostly neutral. But of course neutrality is never tolerated in the American rule based order. You either bark at the command of America or be destroyed.
Playing with 2 side.
Economic term with China
Defense term with USA and allies
You're wrong 😁
We used to be alligned toward the west during the 1970s to 1990s during the Suharto rule. However, now we are not allign to anyone anymore
you are very wrong
Its more of a disccusion of why Singapore and Indonesia has not, rather than did not, at present time.
Of course. This is not about projecting into the future.
I agree that de-dollarisation may actually be a good thing for the Americans, at least in the short term.
At the moment of time, duel monetary systems aren't bad, more choices of customers end of the day.
Excellent. The video gave some solid reasons why Indonesia and Singapore decided against joining BRICS. There could be other reaosns as well but what advantage did Malaysia see?
Yes, exactly
V high risk for malaysia that still dapends a lot of "western investment."western inclcludes japan n korea . Maysia was too hasty.
Yes. That's an angle that some analysts have also mentioned
Headline inflation is similar in Singapore, Indonesia and Malaysia, however, Anwar Ibrahim has identified the US dollar as exporting inflation to his country. Joining BRICS is an avenue to end this problem. Singapore may be immune to this phenomenon, however, Indonesia merely aims to maintain it's overall sovereignty.
Because china and russia need money off the other countries 🙄
Yes
Sir why alot of parts get cut off? Kinda irritating
my poor editing.
its up to leader of the country..wether to join or not
Singapore and indonesia are friends. SG has invested and helped indo in some ways.
Cash rich indonesians having properties and businesses in SG. Likewise SG also have investments like in Bintan and such. SG helped 5 billion SGD to Indo. Indo is more steady, unlike China they played SG out of Suzhou park.
Whatever you do, never trust the communist.
Brics could be just the beginning of the game of these people, going for the poor.
Dr. Karuppannan, lots of love from an indian hindu here, as you can see from the comments here, everyone is fed up with colonial, western bullying going on since decades and centuries. Geopolitics however is not an emotional business, Malaysia is a rational state, what does Malaysia stand to gain from joining brics in these terms?
You are right. Its a world-wide phenomenon- people are fed up with the present order. But as you pointed out all countries have to make rational decisions to advance their interests.
Joining BRICS say that you know which side is winning. Not joining BRICS say that you are willing to cooperate with the "non-aligned, rules based" group and accept military bases in your country and trade tariffs and restrictions mandated by the group.
@@Nat_Ryder By not accepting forecully imposed military bases on the country soil do you mean to say that the BRICS is now providing protection to its members? Isn't it an economic organization?
Don't consider Singapore for your study, as Singapore is a tiny nation and very vulnerable and therefore it is very cautious for its longevity. It will side wherever the military strength is and currently it is US and EU nations. So as not to annoy it's masters it will not join BRICS. IF AFTER 10 years, the BRICS becomes more powerful both economy and military wise , don't be surprised that Singapore will again gears towards the BRICS.
Its a possible as all states are free to adapt their interests accordingly.
BRICS are solid or hollow until use it then can tell is it worth joining, any agreement big or small on papers always looks " attractive " until hit the bricks that are solid hard to break it to continue by then its too late to return, just looked at those countries that joined in the first round they are not coping well with returns what invested or whether make economy sense or not any lose of money are always at the expense or ordinary folks that affected most, better be safe than sorry.
Enjoy your misguided interpretation
Frankly I not concerned what leader of Singapore or Indonesia for not joining the BRICS now or join later maybe. Their reasons based not related to Malaysian interest. As long of PM Anwar, decided for best Malaysian people welfare and livehood by joining BRICS surely I would support him.

I think many countries are too focussed on the economic angles.
Reason Number 7 and the real reason. The Malaysian ruling party sees this as an opportunity to score political points with both the anti-West and pro-China elements of its population (which are both rather strong due to toxic racial and religious politics endemic in Malaysia) in order to win the next election. Singapore and Indonesia practice far more constructive politics and have no need to descend to these depths.
The question is about SG and ID not Malaysia.
PM anwar explain to general public why malaysia keen on joining BRICS. A public announcement on the benefits.
ASEAN is also about our neighbours economic growth.
Indonesia and Singapore are non aligned but a great allies of the US, EU, Japan, Korea and Australia
Guys BRICS has stopped taking new members for the moment so why the fuss now talking about this countries .
It benefits Singapore to have an organization such as the BRICS around of course, but it doesn't benefit us in any way to join them.
That's a smart way of looking at things.
