Great video. I actually have a super rare book you didn’t mention. In 1940 for just a few weeks DC was printing 15 cent variants of their 10 cent comics to distribute in Canada before they switched to “10 cents 15 cents in Canada” on the cover. All the 15 cent variants, fewer than 10 known to exist. I’m the proud owner of a 15 cent Batman #2.
In the 1990s, there were a series of 8 Evil Ernies done with leather covers. Only 8 of each book were made. They were called the “Octagon” variants. Each had artwork done on the cover in gold ink. They go for several thousand when they come up for sale.
Venom #1 white error appears on the gold foil vzn as I understand it. So the gold was limited printing, and errors were few and far in between those. So you will also never see a white error newsstand . All the white errors should have the pinup on the back as well, because this is how the gold Lethal Protector 1 was printed.
Zenescope Publishing made museum editions of early "Grim Fairy Tales" and "Return to Wonderland " (first series) limited to twenty-five copies. Test museum editions limited to ten of "Return to Wonderland" also exist. They might be worth mentioning.
I have been debating writing this comment since your last video about rare books because I did not want to be "that guy." Turns out, I am going to be "that guy." "Less than" is abbreviated with "". The alligator eats the bigger number. I love your channel and watch every video, but I am sorry - I couldn't resist. Thank you for all you do!
I went back and forth on it. But where I go the information from that person wrote it how I wrote it. So I thought it was correct hahaha. It’s been awhile since I took a meth class. But thanks for future advice
I’m pretty sure the white lethal protector is the gold variant version without the gold foil overtop, so that’s why it’s so rare, there’s less of the gold foil variant, and on top of that this is another ex. Of a print error, just like the black lethal protector is to the red foil, they printed a few without the gold foil
My fave of all (wish I had it) is the error print of Captain America Comics #1 (yup, the 1941 grail!!) CGC has it recognized with a notation on it's Universal label whereas it originally had green qualified labels! The printer didn't get the red ink printed during the 4 color process. Last I knew, there were 2 known!! ( one in 8.0 and the other in 6.0) --Talk about ultra rare PLUS mega desirable!!
WOW DAVE👍YOU'RE ACTUALLY ACKNOWLEDGING THE EXISTENCE OF COFFIN COMICS (HOME OF LADY DEATH) AND THE COMPANY HAS MANY DIFFERENT TITLES THAT HAVE 10 OR LESS MADE
Motion Picture Funnies Weekly #1 as i had one but SOLD in the 1990s. I think 12 copies known to exist. 1st appearance on Sub-Mariner pre Marvel Comics #1 and in color with 4 pages added here.
@@ComicBookInvestments Regrettably SOLD to the CEO of Metropolis Comics at SDCC in the 1990s :-( Reason why i hate being a dealer. Have been trying to find out to this day who owns it. It came from the Sotheby's auction and from the Lloyd Jacquet estate!! Beautiful complete coverless copy matched to a trimmed Marvel Comics #1 cover. I have a link to a Peek Inside a replica of the MPFW on my channel from A to Z. rare look and got the pics from Ray of VintageComics. Linky below :-) ruclips.net/video/HqMRUUCyIBI/видео.html
I think my most rare comic is "Spider-Man Comic Book Reader" (1975) There are only 7 on the CGC census with the highest being (2) 8.5's (I have one). I don't know how many were printed, but I believe they were used as a learning book, so most were probably destroyed in classrooms. There are none for sale or sold on ebay.
Such an interesting deep cut post! I have been thinking about scarcity and being from Canada you find relatively lots CPVariants in 1$ bins. What are your thoughts on Newstands, Newsstands and Canadian... Love to hear your ramblings on that topic from an investment state of mind. 🖖🏾
Great stuff bro! I don’t have any of these, but I love to collect limited quantity comics. These days, you never know what people are willing to pay big bucks for! 👍🏾😊
Finally a vid on “rare” books. And not just a misleading title grab. Will save this vid. I have a Batman 1 new 52 PENCILS not the sketch with a 5.99 price tag So far either 1 to 5 were made Don’t know if it is a error or what and signed by Snyder and capullo Great vid Thanks
Great video, I love rare stuff like this. One thing though - you got the greater than (>) and less than ( symbol by mistake. I used to make the same error. Anyhoo… good video. Thanks.
Hahaha. Yes I wasn’t sure which is was. And the place where I got the info from used it this way so I thought it was right hahaha. It’s been awhile since 3rd grade math. I should have googled it though
Dave, why is Primer#2 first Grendel so expensive cause they have done nothing with this character and I was gonna get it to add to my Batman collection but not for no 1K to 2K cause that's crazy I can get a Hulk#181 or something for that price.
@@ComicBookInvestments Nice! I just got back a couple of Gerber 8's from CGC - Little Giant Movie Funnies #1 and #2. I sent in a True Comics #83 without a subscriber stamp - I'll bet there's less than 10 of those!
Doubt any of those copies have only one print. I'm a printing press operator, and let me tell you.. We all keep copies of the cool shit we print. Even the uncut press sheets. To make one book, you need to print several copies of the same thing, just in case you mess up in the binding process.
I know chances are slim to none, but can you imagine the feeling of finding that missing gold TMNT in the wild? Like at a thrift store or something...... ahh the dream...lol
I have an Ashcan Preview of Halloween #1 numbered to 66. Of my entire collection of books..... X-men #1 Hulk #181s..... it's my favorite and most prized comic.
there are many one only known comics around usually from the 19 th century that were free with newspapers that were then used as firelighters in the UK . Like is said , rare doesnt always mean valuable tho the comic that LS LOWRY drew as a kid would go for a pretty high amount lol
I don't have any of those books Dave but I do have a Soulfire#1 virgin variant CGC ss 9.8 signed by Michael Turner and according to the CGC censors there is only 28 copies that where ever signed and I don't see it on eBay hardly ever so I figured I hate would hold it's value.
Enjoyed the info.. Rarest First appearance comic books? Low print runs.. Key character. Thinking like.... Too Much Coffee Man 1 mini comic self published 50 copies.... to Spongebob #1 12000 copies. TMNT#1 3000 copies. Cerebus #1. Visions #1. 2000 AD #2 . Just an idea.
Mmm… only wish I had even one. Might have seen one of those Valiant, can’t remember for sure though. My comic connections were limited, let’s say, thus … no dice. Prices … very similar … again no dice. Ahh, the choices I’d made, knowing what I know now though …👾… 😈 many, many, boxes, under my tree. Hmm, hmm, …lol. =):’}
I’ll give you the $50 for the FF purple label I’m in Australia I’ll pay postage let me know on not on IG or Facebook or anything but would send money before sending

Cool video, Thanks! I'm keeping an eye out for those Coffin/ Chaos Comics. Good stuff!👍
As an Entertainment Attorney, I enjoyed your discussion regarding the Ashcans and copyright issues. You did a great job explaining!
Thanks. What law do you mostly practice. Meaning what side of entertainment? Like more towards music?
Great info, thanks!!
Glad it was helpful!
REALLY ENJOYED this video! Would love content like this and videos about more lesser known 1-of-1 comics :)
Great vid!
Loved the list and the video. I hope you do more.

For several years I owned the only copy of Survey, a 1948 Marvel advertising comic, graded CGC 4.0 if I remember. Check the census.
Outstanding video. I appreciate the time it took you to make this.
Thank you. It was fun to do
Love this video!
Thanks. It was fun

Yes, but no one wants them. They’re not worth anything.
Love the video!

I know we all use CGC and the census is always referred to. But what about the CBCS or PGX? is it possible that they have graded these rare books?
Very interesting.
Those TMNT books are sweet! Cant say id pay much for any of the others on the list though.
Ya I want a gold one. One day hopefully

I picked up a tmnt last ronin ashcan a while back-still believe it has good potential to go up in value
Watched this video 2 times love it every time I see it something to dream in having I was a valiant kid love Jim shooter and his time in my life.

Easy trick: the alligator's mouth always points to the larger sum.
I have an error of Rogue 1 with no gold foil. It’s white in the logo.
Have you ever seen a yellow smaller darker image? I can only find a red one online
I have Super-Hombre 409 CGC 9.6 & the Venom Black error CGC 9.8.
Really? That’s awesome. Good books

Those indie comics can be very expensive due to the fact they had low print runs
As a follow-up to this video, maybe you could cover Gerber 9 and 10 comics...
I have a gerber 10 book :) all new comics 15

I have the Venom black error but dang I would love to just see the white error in person.
Ya I had a black once. Yes I would love to see that white cover too
I know chances are slim to none, but can you imagine the feeling of finding that missing gold TMNT in the wild? Like at a thrift store or something...... ahh the dream...lol

So many cool

You didn't cover Ultimate fallout 4 facsimile acetate CGC 10.0 Blue label. Undoubtedly super rare
I talked about that in the beginning of the video. I won’t be doing rare too cgc grades. These are rarest comics made

I Got Pineapple Man #1 an Variant, Signed... Muhahaha 😂😅
I have the (only) Spider-man 2099 #1 3D error.

Albedo 2 also had a 3000 print run. 1st Usagi Yojimbo
Full disclosure.. I Have them including albedo 2
I almost got one of the the Pony birthday variants (of 12) but nope. I would’ve become a Brony for one of them.

Nope. I do have a turtlesmania silver but that’s out of 100

Great video. I don’t have any mega rare comics, but I look for comics with very low populations graded pre 1950.
