The Gray Hair Texture Myth

  • Let's dispel a misconception that gray or silver hair is coarse and wiry compared to dyed hair by taking you on a journey into what actually happens to your hair when you dye it. I have found my natural silver hair to be surprisingly similar in texture to my natural brown hair, and that it is actually much healthier than my dyed or highlighted hair ever was. In the video, you can SEE my gray hair, virgin brown hair, AND the dyed ends of my hair under a microscope, and can actually see the damage on my dyed hair!
Since going silver, my hair is much more vibrant, has less breakage, and I get more compliments on it than I ever did when I colored it.
Good hair care practices still apply to silver hair, although it is the easiest color I have ever maintained! Heat protectant is a must. Some opt to do a clear gloss on their silver but that still involves the lifting process described here.
And to keep your silver VIBRANT, watch my video on PURPLE SHAMPOO here! ⬇️

And if you're growing out your dyed hair and the old dyed ends are turning brassy, watch this video for the solution! ⬇️
    • How to Remove Brassy, ...
Also, if you decide to ditch the dye, expect to see NEW HAIR GROWTH since you are no longer putting chemicals on your head!
DISCLAIMER: I am not a hairdresser nor am I anti hair dye! I colored and highlighted my hair for decades, and ditched the dye because I was very self conscious about the condition of my hair.
I'm Lynn and I inspire women who want to, to go naturally silver. My intention is to help you realize the freedom and power you have when you decide to let go and free yourself of the endless dye cycle by helping you become more aware of who you truly are. I make entertaining, practical, and informative videos on the transformative power of the journey toward silver hair; the shedding of a previous version of you into a new you. It is a journey for the soul! Let me help you on your journey! With much love, silver sister! 🖤🤍💋

Thanks so much . I needed to hear that. My short new baby hairs are unmanageable. So glad you talked about this. I don't feel so desperate anymore. ❤

Your hair is so pretty! Mine is a short salt and pepper pixi. I usually ALWAYS have long hair. Can't wait til mine is grown out!

Not a misconception. Over the past 5 yrs my hair texture has changed dramatically. Super porous and frizzy, short hairs sticking up all over and hard to style. I don’t color my hair so that theory doesn’t hold for me. I hate my hair now 😢

Have you ever tried a Demi permanent clear gloss? I have a friend who did this to tame her grays and she swears by it

@@grayawhile My hair texture also changed significantly and the grays have a very different texture than my original hair. I didn't touch my hair with dye for about 20 years. Demi permanent gloss does not even touch the grays, so I had to use permanent professional color with 10 vol to cover it (not box dye). I would love to let it go, but I don't have enough gray to look cool yet. But seriously, the texture is WILDLY different now. Texture change is 100% NOT a misconception.

My hair is weird. Some greys are like any other strand that still has it's natural colour, and some are coarse and weird looking.

I oil my hair every now and then and that helps a LOT!

I cut my hair into a shag last Oct 2022- I was shocked at the coarse texture of my all silver hair. Since then, 8 months later, I have had to layer my hair and trim the chunky thick ends twice because the texture was so heavy and different from my dyed hair! It grew out very strangely at first. Finally in a layered cut, it is able to grow out and has softened a lot. I love the freedom of it and the color. It will take another year to get it long again but well worth it. I experimented with several products. The one which works best is a leave in conditioner which I rinse out to give the right weight in my ends when blowing it out. Its a long process which gives you all natural hair and I should have done it 10 yrs ago.

But my gray hair IS coarse and wiry. The rest is fine and straight. It’s a struggle!!

I remember my mother telling me that women over 40 and with greys shouldn't wear long hair. My mother is 88 years old.
