I've lived and worked here in Napoli past year. Pretty fair and accurate overview. I would add visit Sorrento and Herculaneum, smaller version of Pompeii along the coastline.
Here's a summary of the main points from the video about traveling to Naples, Italy: 1. Geography and History: - Naples is one of the largest cities on the Mediterranean, located in southwestern Italy. - It has been a central hub of trade and activity for about 2,000 years. - The city has a rich history, including Roman origins and periods as an imperial capital. 2. Modern Naples: - Described as chaotic, vibrant, and passionate. - A mix of the best and worst of Italy. - Growing tourism industry, particularly due to nearby attractions like Pompeii and the Amalfi Coast. 3. Transportation: - The public transportation system is described as confusing and unreliable. - Multiple metro lines with separate ticketing systems. - Taxis can be expensive and potentially scammy. - Walking is recommended as a good way to explore the city. 4. Safety: - Naples has a reputation for being sketchy, but the speaker found it no more dangerous than other Italian cities. - Tourists should be aware of pickpockets and motorbike thieves. - The Spanish Quarter was historically considered dangerous but is now very touristy. 5. Food: - Naples is famous for its pizza, including traditional Neapolitan style and street food versions. - Other local specialties include fried pizza (pizza fritta), croquettes (crocchè), fried seafood, and sfogliatella pastries. - Lemon-based drinks and desserts are popular. 6. Attractions and Activities: - Historic center (Centro Storico) with old churches and museums. - Via Toledo for shopping and street food. - Spanish Quarter for street art and tributes to Diego Maradona. - Coastal promenade for walking and biking. - Vomero district for upscale experiences and sunset views. 7. Day Trips: - Caserta for its massive palace. - Amalfi Coast for scenic beauty and touristy towns. - Mount Vesuvius and Pompeii for historical sites. - Islands like Procida, Ischia, and Capri for beach getaways. The speaker emphasizes that while Naples can be chaotic and challenging, it's a beautiful and worthwhile destination for tourists.
go to camarrozza for a 1 euro spritz, eat at Nonna Anna's for a 3 course lunch for 12 ish euro etc, just look about if cost is a factor for you. I have been going back and forth to naples my entire life due to my family and there's both cheap and expensive, both are equally important and delicious if your budget changes then so should your expectation in the look and feel of the restaurant but not the food. I have never seen an 8 euro sprits in Naples. If you wnat to be able to travel anywher ein the city buy a UNICO ticket, it costs 3.10 for a day pass for naywhere in the city for the metro, bus, tram and cable car.
@@jenny.barter at any metro station, just buy a day ticket! And at the air[ort, get a shared taxi, it costs 5 euro and takes you to the same place the bus does but in half the time!
@@Elena-nm3hn Hey Tia, just walk out the terminal and head for the bus into the city, there you will find a shared taxi rank with drivers, they get enough people to fill the car and then leave, it takes seconds to find enough people because the taxi fare is 5 euro per person, the same as the bus and the bus queue is very long.
22/08/2024 I can recommend places near Orto Botanico di Napoli are cheaper, safer and less crowded, walking distance to most of atractions, close to Museo Archeologico, Maradona Murale etc. Also close distance to the airport, from Piazza Carlo III nearby hotel Ferdinando II you can take a taxi from the street for 15-20 euro. Quick access to station Napoli Piazza Cavor. If I have a choice to stay longer in Napoli I will choose western Fuorigrotta (Outside the grotto) near Stadio Diego Armando Maradona which is very clean and very quiet compared to the Napoli old town. The roads are wide, cars and bikes are respecting the street lights and zebra crossing, you don't hear the horns vehicles and the dog owners are picking up poop
Very informative. I'd like to make a quick correction though, metro line 2 is indeed run by the Italian national railway, and its name is Trenitalia. Frecciarosso is the name of their fastest of the high speed intercity trains. They also have Frecciargento and Frecciablanco. Line 11 is operated by Ente Autonomo Volturno (EAV) which also operates the Curcumvesuviana trains. Enjoyed the video, looking forward to our family trip to Italy next summer (can't go any other time, missus is a teacher and only gets summers off and two weeks at Xmas). Cheers from La Belle Province!
My family is from Campania too. I almost changed my plans to go to Naples because I listened to many influencers saying it's filthy, unhealthy, a disgrace. Then came your even-handed assessment and you helped me overcome my fears, accept the hassle, and just go for it. PS we plan a daytrip to Caserta.
I am in Naples right now. On vacation, I am german and live in berlin. I think it is very nice here. Not filthier than anywhere else. I would rather say it is gritty, and thats great and give the city a certain charm. Who likes a city which is totally clean like Munich or so? That’s boring
First of all, thank you for this incredible video with top information. I'll be traveling with my wife to Naples from October 17 to 22 and we confess that we're quite curious and apprehensive about what's to come because, as a rule, we always visit quieter cities. But it will be a first and we're excited. We'll be spending two of those days in Salerno. What transportation do you recommend to get from Naples to Salerno?
Nice job on the video - very informative! Also wondering how you created the video with your face superimposed on the images? Much more engaging to see hou throughout. TIA!
I visited in September 2023. Metro line 1 was closed - don't know why. I could not find a printed bus timetable - because the buses are privatised I was told!? On the train to Ercolano, a girl had her phone pinched. The pickpocket dashed off the train like lightning. So glad I wore a money belt under my clothes. To cap it all, it rained all week. Archaeological Museum was expensive and very disappointing when it came to finds from Ercolano.
I am here. It definitely looks very dangerous. Watch out. Extremely, extremely dirty. I have no words to explain how few is this city and other Italian ones taken care of. Is a pity because taken care of it would be very good. An amazing place to visit then.
FYI a guy in a motorbike snatched my friend’s bag in 2012. He got in between the 6 of us & when she bent down, guy managed to cut the strap of her bag. Other people in the cruise had something stolen from them too. We watched your video because we are flying into Naples in August to head to Puglia. Nothing against you but the video convinced me not to explore in Naples again😀
dirtiest country there is and we got robbed 2 times in 4 nights we stayed. and there is nothing to see broken down walls and buildings they don't speak english I went to the police and we lost half the day. people are not friendly at all. I don't recommend it 🤮🤮🤮

Hi,
If you could put the names of the places you talk along with/ in your video, that would be super helpful.
