A note from Jakob (the editor) on video gear:
There are a lot of things we use to make videos that I wouldn't recommend people to use for theirs. It's just stuff we had on hand, so it's what we use. That being said, there are things we use that I would recommend, and those are listed below. I'm working on putting together a FULL recommended list of equipment to get your videos looking super sharp. That's coming soon :)

Robin Hobb is great, I've only read the first book so far, but the depth of characters is great and the story compelling.
Can't wait for the adaptations video. A no budget fan adaptation sounds good to me! I'm pretty sure the footage of me doing that is lost to time, so I'm okay saying it's good for others to do.

@@NerdLevelRising I am sure they will absolutely be worth the wait.
John you should absolutely read “HEROES DIE” by Matthew Stover.
The brief pitch is that in a Fahrenheit 451 style future we’ve developed technology to teleport actors/assassins into a parallel dimension and all their adventures can be experienced like a first person shooter by those who tune in on earth through some sort of neurolink. This alternate reality is a fantasy world similar to The First Law world or even the Hyborian world from Conan. The actor assassins spend their days going on quests or adventures for the amusement of the viewers at home, and the greatest of these is known as Caine. In the fantasy world he’s seen as John Wick mixed with Robin Hood and has several times completely upended the political order through assassination for the sake of these manufactured quests that he goes on.
The book is so bonkers it’s really hard to summarize, but it’s one of the most unique fantasy stories I’ve read, asks a lot of deep questions and is darn entertaining! I hope you’ll check it out!!
@@iSamwise I am putting that on the list right now!

Good to see that you loved Service Model! I need to get into more Adrian Tchaikovsky, but then I notice he publishes 3-4 books a year and it's so daunting. And I agree about his writing; there are moments of pure poetry in there.
I had an okay week. I'll probably have Mistwraith done this coming week. I've started Fire Logic by Laurie J Marks, the first in a tetralogy that's quite political from the get go. And I'm reading Yasunari Kawabata's Palm-of-the-Hand Stories, which are each only 2-4 pages and are more like snapshots of a character's life than traditional stories, great for those off days.

@@CombativeRoboGuy I am excited to get to it.
I think im in a no reading competition with Jakob, though I'm sure he accomplished more in his life this week than me, I had the mother of all migraines so no reading was done and nothing in life was accomplished. I finished season 5 of peaky blinders, that's been a long time coming, was supposed to finish the series long before hotd came back. Will agree that Daemon's story needs to pick up now, but dude needed therapy, so I actually do think that's wrapped up, find out soon. If you don't get out for Deadpool & Wolverine, I seriously suggest Godzilla Minus One, I know I suggested it last time, but I will bother you until you do, deadly serious about how good that movie is. Hopefully it counts as my read for the month, because it's a bunch of subtitles, so reading was done during the movie. I need something to count. And Jakob and I are opposites, I have books with no shelves, he's got shelves with slim pickings of books, combined it would actually look like something 😂.

This week I read:
*Comics*
Kick-Ass Volume 1 (re-read)
Written by Mark Millar | Art by John Romita JR
- I didn't enjoy it as much as I used to, and I think that's largely down to Romita's art, which I've grown not to like the older I've gotten. He tends to put too much detail in his faces when he tries to empathise cheekbones and such. I'm fine with sketchy but that doesn't quite fit either. Mark Millar's done more interesting takes on superheroes before (Ultimates, Superman Red Son) and after this (Jupiter's Legacy). This is one of those occasions I do prefer the film (tho the book has the more logical ending to a certain scenario). I'm not much of a fan of either version of Kick-Ass 2 but I remember liking the book significantly more than the film.
I finished:
*Thriller*
The Winter of Frankie Machine / Don Winslow
- Fantastic!
I'm currently reading:
*Comics*
Preacher Volume 1 (re-read)
Written by Garth Ennis | Art by Steve Dillon
Sandman Volume 1 (re-read)
Written by Neil Gaiman | Art by Various
- I know Gaiman's had very serious allegations made against him but this is one of if not my brother's favourite series and I like talking comics with him.
*Grimdark Fantasy*
Aspect-Emperor 2: White-luck Warrior (re-read)
*Sci-Fi*
Cloud Atlas / David David
*Western*
Streets of Laredo / Larry McMurtry
@@thatsci-firogue amazing list as always. I have to admit I have never been a John Romita fan either.
@@Talking_Story It worked much better in his 80s and 90s output but even the man himself admits his style is a deadline style.
