I just finished the last book in The Realm of the Elderlings at the beginning of this year, and the series has taken a place among my top three of all time. You have so much greatness ahead of you, John!
I so much wanted to read Assassin's Apprentice, but I'm just not going to be able to fit it in. Really glad to hear what you're saying about it as I know I'll love it. Also glad to see you're enjoying Boys in the Valley. I loved that one! Such a classic feel to it. I need to read more Fracassi.
Robin Hobb was such an amazing ride. Fitz is one of my favorite characters in fantasy. Especially in those early books his relationship with Burrich was so compelling. Also in book 2 you'll meet everyone's favorite animal companion.
Hi! I also read Assasin's aprentice last week and i gave it a light 4/5. BUT after listening to you i must give it one more star. I never read such a fluid and life like fantasy book. And the character work is amazing. They are so unique. So thank you for pointing that out. Also im starting Sun Eater this week.
@makarivannikov1068 hiya, as the most insanely biased ❤Hobb ❤reader on the planet, for context, when readers have made their way through the saga and rank the books, Farseer comes in fourth against Liveships, Tawny Man, and Fitz & the Fool (the 2nd, 3rd, and 5th sub-sets), even at a 4/5 that's a solid indication of the saga's quality. ☺
This serves me right for drawing back from social media. It's taken too long for me to catch this. I AM A VERY HAPPY CAMPER JOHN! I'm penciling you in for ongoing debrief conversations as you go through 😁
Omg… Just finished Realm of the Elderlings… you are in for an emotional ride… close to my fav series of all time - I still need to think about it more, I’m still fresh… what a gift this series is to the world - I can not wait to hear your thoughts on this series!
@@Talking_Story Absolutely John. The 'in-world' time flows mean that taking a break doesn't impact the flow of the ongoing story. In particular, I genuinely *recommend* a break (especially for binge readers) after Fool's Fate, so you can head into the Rain Wilds Chronicles with an open mind and let it be what it is, not what you wish it was. There's a connected novella that isn't essential to the saga, 'The Willful Princess and The Piebald Prince', that I think works best either after you're finished (the ❤Hobb ❤hang-over is real, you'll need a little somethin' somethin'), or between the end of The Liveship Traders and beginning of Tawny Man. The *themes* in the novella will strongly inform the landscape of the Tawny Man story, and that's where I think the novella gives the most value to the reader. Other than that, John, I'll be in touch 😉
Been doing a first read through of Hobb this year, enjoyed the Fitz trilogy but liveships is now my favourite fantasy trilogy. Not got to the rest of the series yet.
I just started my Realm of the Elderlings journey not too long ago myself, i read AA in like 2 days....Read RA in 3 days over the weekend and now im almost done with AQ and its absolutely incredible
This brings me joy 😍 There are spoiler filled discussions on my channel for points along the way, so if you want any deep thinking or gushing come and check it out. I'm thrilled you're enjoying AQ, it tells me that as reveals happen throughout, you'll get full value from them.
Assassin's Apprentice and Boys in the Valley, what a week! Royal Assassin is a big step up imo from AA (which I also loved) and Boys in the Valley is my favorite horror read in a few years. And of course, Demon in White... incredible month
I was waiting for the great orator to give us a description of Robin Hobb-holy Hannah it did not disappoint. I felt the exact same as Assassins Apprentice-thank you for just inviting me to read it with you. I’m getting the next couple in because I absolutely must. Such addictive storytelling-and I have so many darn theories already I’m holding my tongue for So stoked for you to read demon in white! I’m kinda stoked to see your comic video-I have such a limited history with them and would love to slip them in. Manga (Berserk) has been filling that hole in the meantime and it’s my first of that
@@Chance.Dillon I have to get into Bezerk. Maybe when we get past the first trilogy we can do a video with some major Hobb lovers and talk Farseer and what we have to look forward to? What do you think?
You can't go wrong with Hobb! Liveship traders is one of my all time just amazing favorite series ever! I'll NEVER FORGET THE EMOTION it gave me. Speaking of emotion I just finished Light Bringer in red rising. Omg it was incredible! I can't wait for RED GOD!
@Talking_Story for anyone on the fence about Robin Hobb just dive in! You will feel the HIGHEST OF HIGHS AND THE LOWEST OF LOWS. The writing as you heard is basically perfect. It's a slow burn but you get the PAYOFF! It has the best character writing and the best pet companion of all time. It's 16 books 9 of the books are first person from Fits viewpoint. Liveship traders and the rain wilds quartet are third person. Liveship traders is the best imo. Rain wilds is tough until the last book is awesome. Sorry John I had to get that off my chest! Lol. Now I have to reread this sometime in the future lol.
So happy to see you loved Robin Hobb, she is my favorite author of all time, and this series (all Realm of the Elderlings books) have impacted my life, as I read it 3 different times (as a teenager, a young adult and a grown up) and each time the experience was so moving, but each time in a different way. I also read it each time in a different language, but that didn't change the emotional attachment I have. This is also the only literature tattoo I have 🙂
YES! The value in re-reading this saga is incalculable. I've been reading and re-reading since I was in my early 20's, and as I have gained insight and realized how little I knew when I was younger, the story just gets better. It's rare that fantasy stays with the characters as they get older and watching Fitz reflect back in later books is incredible.
@@derrisreaditbefore Exactly ! It's amazing how my feelings towards Fitz's actions have changed over the years. Things he did that I read as a teenager and agreed with are now actions i cannot comprehend, let alone agree with. I think Robin Hobb is such a skilled writer.
@@Talking_Story Tissues, comfort food, a pet (obviously in your case Pooh) to cuddle, a blankie, and NO PLANS for any day you finish one of the sub-sets. Wine is good too.
Yes!! So happy to hear you loved Assassin’s Apprentice! Fair warning book 2 might blow your hair clean off. I have a feeling it’s going to be an excruciating decision between that and Demon in White for August’s book of the month lol
I’m nearing the end of my own Elderlings journey with the last two books, and you’re in for the treat of a lifetime with the rest of the series if you connected so much to the beginning of the tale 💪
Had Assassin’s Apprentice on my shelf, decided to read it because you said you were reading it, and man, what a ride! Now I gotta buy 17 more books! 😂😂 I hope Dragonbone Chair wins your poll. It was the book I finished before I read Assassin’s Apprentice, and it’s fantastic. Tad Williams is every bit Robin Hobb’s equal when it comes to prose, which is crazy to think about.
I'm gonna sleep good tonight 😴 after that glowing review of Assassin's Apprentice! Your reaction to it mirrored mine when I read it. When I started Realm/Elderlings I was entranced. I had never read anything like it (though I'm still an amateur in the fantasy genre). I myself just finished the whole series last month-- spaced out over a year and a half. Safe to say that it's in my top five favorite series across the board.
John I never comment on videos but just want to say you have a beautiful way with words. I’ve read the first 7 books of realm of the elderlings and the way you summed up your thoughts for assassins apprentice is exactly what makes this series my favorite of all time not even half way through. So excited for your journey in those books. They’re special
Oh thank you so much for this kindness. Truly means the world to me. Thanks so much for reaching out and leaving that comment. I can’t wait to join you much further into this amazing series.
@@Talking_Story yeah I’ve been watching you for a while now and when assassins apprentice won I was so excited to hear your thoughts and you did not disappoint. Can’t wait to hear your thoughts on the whole series. As of right now I think Ship of Destiny is my favorite book of all time so I cannot wait for you to get to that one even if it will be a long time from now 😅
@@andrewnewman02 well I promise I am getting to them all. I already feel this series will surely crash my all time list. Thanks so much for checking out the channel.
Hi Andrew, if you haven't already, take a break for a bit before heading to the Rain Wild Chronicles. It begins a new arc for the story (a bit like Liveships did) and needs to be allowed to go its own way - it'll get there, and like Liveships, the arc completes in the following Fitz trilogy. I hope you enjoy the voyage. There are plenty of discussions on my channel if you want some deep thoughts or gushing, with the rare (very rare) criticism or discussion of things that landed differently for some.
@@derrisreaditbeforeI completely missed this until now but thanks Derri! I’m starting Fool’s Fate soon to finish off Tawny Man and I’m so excited the first two were great. Then I’ll probably take a month or so break before starting Rain Wilds. But yes I am tempering my expectations going into that series based on what I’ve heard and I feel like I have the right mindset for it. Love to hear you speak about the series on all the livestreams you’ve been on!
I just finished The Farseer Trilogy last week. It’s a difficult series for me to recommend to others because of the pacing and the prose. I realize it’s not for everyone. There’s times throughout the series where it hits a bit of a “slog”. I hate to call it slog because it’s just slower pacing, but those slower moments are times when Hobb is really fleshing out characters and developing relationships. For me, these books were perfect. It truly felt like magic reading it. I found myself in awe many times after a reading session. The prose strikes the perfect balance between elegant and poetic, and easy to digest. It just feels great to read. The characters and the human element of this series are better than any I have read. The excerpt you read about a hand being calloused and tough, creating the feeling of safety, but also preventing escape is absolutely incredible. There were so many moments throughout the series that I went back and reread a section just to enjoy it again. I can’t remember too many times when my heart rate increased and I got that adrenaline dump like an Abercrombie or Pierce Brown book. Hobb’s sparing use of action, violence, and suspense is so effective though. When something happens, you can really feel it. While the first book was incredible, I found books 2 and 3 even better. I’m excited for you to have the chance to enjoy this amazing series and look forward to your updates as you go along.
Oh Robert! I'm glad you've had such a time with Farseer. ❤Hobb's ❤Realm of the Elderlings holds a very special place in my heart and to hear another reader express what is so magical about it, brings me joy.
Thanks for the video. I haven't yet read Hobbs but I am looking forward to it. My month so far has been good reading. Im currently working my way through The Belgariad by David Eddings. Happy Reading!
Great Weekly Reader, as always! You guys always make my Sunday better. I’m just about finished with Ordinary Grace! Wanted to read it before your next Quilluminati video. Hope you have a great week!
I finished Realm of Elderlngs in May and I don’t think have fully recovered yet. I hope you enjoy the amazing journey ahead of you. Also good luck deciding between those books at the end of the month.
Ohhhh boy! You are in for a wild ride with Robin Hobb. I've only read Farseer, but it was enough to make her my all time favorite author! Fitz is hands down my favorite character in fantasy, and Verity is in my top 5. I was chatting with Spaced Out Wizard a few days ago, and I'll tell you what I told him: Royal Assassin deepens all the characters and makes them feel like family, furthers the bleak feeling you get towards the end of book 1, has and ending better than most Sanderlanches, and manages to do something I've never seen anything else do: make a magic system absolutely heartbreaking. It's an all around 10/10 book for me, and my favorite of all time! Also, I just finished Demon in White a few days ago, and I can't decide whether I like it better than Howling Dark. I liked the plot and character growth of book 3, but the worldbuilding and themes of book 2 melted my face off. I just started book 4 today, so we'll see how that goes!
I’ve gotta put The Fool and Burrich over Verity, but what incredible characters throughout. Chade, Molly, Patience, and even the Villains are all are so well done.
@@robertrippy7588 Burrich is my guy but I think when I learn more about the fool I will be wrapped up in that character as well. They are all so great. Chade is wonderful as well!
I am loving all these comments so much. ❤Hobb ❤is my Queen, and the impact these books have had on me is immense. Her characters are so astonishingly well written from a first person perspective, that the secondary, tertiary, and even fully 'background' characters feel real. Everyone from Sara the cook and Fedwren the scribe, to Burrich and Chade, feel fully realized.
Started my weekend with Disquiet Gods and it’s off to an amazing start and I’ve been told by a reliable source that it only gets better! So excited for the content coming this week! Hail Reaper. Hic Sunt Leones
Glad to see Hobb was such a hit with you, and Royal Assassin is even better! Fitz is quite possibly my favourite character in all of Fantasy, and I'm not even finished his story yet. This week I finished: *Fantasy* Rain Wild Chronicles 1: Dragon Keeper - I'm glad I took a few months away to adjust expectations, its honestly not as "bad" as I was led to believe. Its fine but so far my favourite parts have been the tie-ins and cameos from the previous trilogies. As for what I'm currently reading: *Fantasy* Wars of Light & Shadow 2: Ships of Merior - 310 pages in, Dakar aside, I'm loving it! Imagine if Robin Hobb took a Malazan-esque approach but with a Wheel of Time type of story. John, I know you've said you plan on tackling Malazan and WoLaS in the same year, I'd really advise against it and to stick to just 1 at a time. *Horror / Thriller* Joe Ledger 1: Patient Zero - About a third of the way through, its picked. Simultaneously, Joe is a badass but also reads a bit too much like a power fantasy. *Western* Streets of Laredo / Larry McMurtry - Slowly chipping away, I'm loving catcging up with some of our returning characters from Lonesome Dove.
@@thatsci-firogue wow what a list. I am committed to every other month for wolas. Malazan I will start that’s all I’m saying😀. Patient Zero absolutely power fantasy yes.
I have to say since I found your channel I have put so many books on my eventual TBR. Now I just need to figure out how to read faster so I can get to them all. My favorite 30 minute comedies in recent years are Brooklyn 99 and Letterkenny. In fact I watch clips from those shows if I need a good laugh but don’t have time to watch a whole episode. Also my wife and I started watching Bad Monkey on Apple TV+ and so far it is so good. I highly recommend it even though it doesn’t quite fit into the 30 minute comedy format that you were asking about.
Man, I just finished Kingdoms of Death this morning... Sun Eater keeps getting better. Very excited to hear your thoughts on Demon in White and everything that comes after!
The "if you like this, you might like this" is my favourite video format on booktube. So looking forward to your comics edition of it. :) For comedy shows: - Crazy Ex-Girlfriend - 2 Broke Girls - It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia - Pushing Daisies - Don't Trust the B---- in Apartment 23 ...and i'm going to sneak in a slice of life comedy anime too, because while that subgenre generally isn't my cup of tea, Azumanga Daioh was just an amazing blend of surreal comedy and eccentric characters that i loved.
I just got soooo excited! Was just thinking as I warmed up my soup how much I felt like watching weekly reader! Comfort video to go with my comfort food! =)
TV show recs, I really liked Rules of Engagement, it was similar to Friends but a lot of humor about relstionships/marriage/etc. And Patrick Warburton is just amazing as always 😂 And on the anime note... I'd highly recommend either watching the original 90s anime series (or alternatively the movie trilogy remake of it) of Berserk -- or reading the first 14 volumes of the manga -- before reading Kingdoms of Death in Sun Eater. There is SO MUCH in there that was heavily inspired by that arc of Berserk and it was super fun to pick out those moments while reading it
I finished A Time of Courage by John Gwynne, wrapping up the Banished Lands. I did not care for Of Blood and Bone, which really surprised me as I loved The Faithful and the Fallen (it’s my second favorite fantasy series of all time). Now I’m planning on reading Coraline by Neil Gaiman before getting back to The Farseer Trilogy with Royal Assassin and Assassin’s Quest. I’m really glad you loved Assassin’s Apprentice John (is it ok if I call you John?). I agreed completely when you said, based off of the first book, that there’s no way it doesn’t land in your favorite fantasy series of all time. I may also try The Warlord Chronicles, but I’m not sure yet.
Absolutely call me John. Warlord is a tough start but pays off if you can stick it out. Oh man I have no doubts Hobb is going to remain special for me.
Another great Weekly Reader! John! So glad you're reading the Boys in the Valley and Demon in White!! If you think the book of the month is hard now I cannot wait to see what you think when you're done with Demon in White! 😂😊
Hi John. I read Assassins Apprentice and liked it. Her slow burn takes some getting used to but, in the end, I was won over. In GoT I just finished the chapter where a river crossing was tediously negotiated. The story is fascinating. The jousting and river crossing chapters were not. About 150 pages to go.
When I read the Assassin’s Apprentice, I was really looking forward to it. However, I felt it just took too long to things start happening, too much time as a child when he was learning how his world worked. Probably I would not continue the series, however maybe with your excitement I will give it a chance read the second volume with another perspective. Thanks for the insights on it
@@GuilhermedeMeloPinheiro u r very welcome but I would never force a book that is not connecting with me at any given time. Maybe it is just not right for you or not right now. So much out there find what u love and let me know all about it!
I’m so that you loved Assassin’s Apprentice! I’m currently in the midst of my re-read of Ship of Destiny (third book of the Liveship Traders trilogy) and loving it even more. I can’t to see your journey through the Realm of the Elderlings! It may be an unpopular opinion, but I love Furiosa more than Fury Road (and I absolutely loved Fury Road to the point that my dog is named Max for Mad Max). I love how epic Furiosa is-epic in the sense of Beowulf and The Iliad where it’s about the telling and the listening (or, in the case of Furiosa, the watching) of the tale rather than the common, modern aspects of visual storytelling through film. The visuals are there of course (they do seem very anime-like in their framing now that you mention it!), but they are there to tell the story rather than be just a feast for the senses. If that makes sense.
@@SheWasOnlyEvie I agree. Miller like a great comics penciller can tell a very deep story with imagery alone. I am thrilled to have started the Elderlings journey😀
Goddamn John! Could you please read books, you do NOT like? 🤣Within the first 8 minutes you sold me on the Robin Hobb trilogy... Aaaaaaand bought the whole trilogy on Kindle. And the actual tragic part here is - I have no idea when to read all of your recommendations. I am so heavily behind the schedule, unbelievable.🤣 God bless you, all the best! 🙂
😆It's the downside to booktube. SO MANY books I never knew existed, that I simply MUST get around to reading now. p.s. I am insanely biased, but recommend starting the tbr with ❤Hobb's ❤Farseer trilogy.
Am I going to have to put all of The Realm of the Elderlings on my TBR now? I probably was going to anyway. lol. I also like the comic book video idea! And I'm sad I haven't gotten to The Blood Stones before the conversation, but I still plan to try and hangout. Especially since it will be spoiler free.
Great Weekly Reader as usual! Boys in the Valley....I've heard good things, looking forward to your thoughts on it. Those sound effects lol - you should teach Jakob how to do the noise Monkey does when summoning his magic cloud lol - whoops, showing my age right there!
I read Assasin's Apprentice last year. I want to get back into it, but I should have held off a little bit until I was read to dive into the series. It was a great read though. I just picked up Boys in the Valley for my wife's birthday last weekend. I can't wait to see what she thinks about it. The Blood Stones is my next read. I just keep hearing too many good things about it and I'm breaking the TBR for it. Man, I haven't watched any new situational comedies. I think the closest might be Fubar on Netflix. I laughed so hard with the comedy they injected into that show. We need to find out what Jakob's Parralax Effect is so he can see the evidence for the tingle.
Robin Hobb is such an amazing writer! Nobody can write about personal trauma and how her characters deal with it. I have never felt such a personal connection to a character as I did with Fitz, and probably never will. This series has left me feeling bubbly, agggravated and heart broken while reading and I hope you'll get to experience the same, enjoy the read ;)
For reasons I can’t explain, I’m burnt out on fantasy reads. I switched gears and read Mr. Mercedes, and I loved it. I also picked up the first two Elvis Cole and Joe Pike novels. Those are so much fun! Also, I need a shirt that says Accept the Science of the Tingle. 😂
Assassin's Apprentice is on my September TBR. I was excited but now I can't wait! I am a fan of Irish comedies. My fave is Father Ted but I also really liked the newer Derry Girls. I was not able to finish Grave of the Fireflies, I panicked and shut it off and never went back, I could not handle it. I watched all the other Ghibli movies but I cannot with Fireflies, how did they make an anime soo sad!
Glad to hear you liked Hobb...now I'm going to get even more harassment to read her books. Yay. I finished up Return of The Griffin, which was very good. More of a traditional superhero story than the last one, and there's even some Lovecraft references. I think you'll dig it. It was also fun hanging out this last Friday, always a great time with you uncle. Now when that'll be out in the world...I don't know yet. Great video as always boys!
Yeah man, Hobb’s writing is gorgeous, hey? Wonderful character work. Almost done with the Liveship Traders, and while I’m not positive her books are entirely for me, I long to return to Fitz and the Fool in the six dutchies. I’ll definitely continue, but I’ll take my time in this world I think. I liked Boys in the Valley. I have a few more Fracassi books on deck to try. Great video, boys!
I plan on taking breaks between the sets as well. I am at the part where Boys in the Valley takes off in the most gruesome ways. I am so digging it! Thanks Theo.
Tawny Man brings together the first two trilogies beautifully. Adding the new elements from the Liveship books into Fitz' world and concluding with a simply epic set of reveals. If you've had enough interest to this point Theo, you'll very much enjoy Tawny Man, but if it's not rocking your world by then, don't feel you have to go into the second arc - the conclusion of Fool's Fate works as a spectacular close to a story. The next arc explains the longer origin story/prophecy stuff.
Managed to squeeze in and finish Michael Moorcock’s “The Warlord of the Air” (Multiverse Time Travel Steampunk? 😅) in between part 1 and 2 of “To Green Angel Tower” by Tad Williams!
Make sure to get The Willful Princess and the Piebald Prince novella which gives you the history of “ the Wit”. I read it right after Assassin’s Quest ( the third Farseer). It is very good!!
On the livestream the other day I recommended you read The Darfstellar by Walter M. Miller Jr. and I just found out that, to my knowledge, there isn’t a physical book for it and you have to get it in a collection. I recommend getting The Hugo Winners Vol. 1 to read it.
Oh gosh, but if you already loved Assassin's Apprentice so much, then I can't even wait to see how much fanboying is going to happen as you continue the Realm of the Elderlings. The pure gold has yet to come! Hope that Demon in White lives up to all the hype for you 👀 I am currently reading Bury Your Gays by Chuck Tingle and John I am telling you, this HAS to be on your (spooky season) TBR!! There's so much commentary on Hollywood culture, especially surrounding the queer representation and erasure in (horror) media. It's SO good! Also, I just started The Last of Us last night (I know, super late to the party), and I am already obsessed. Hope you have a good week of reading and watching! 🤩
Last of Us the show or the game? Both are great. I will add that the Tingle to the list this years spooky season I think is full up but I am always looking for something that sounds as good as that 1. Thanks Esmay!!
@@Talking_Story the show, I have dabbled in the game before but this is the first time I am fully hooked on the franchise! also, sorry for constantly being a terror to your TBR hahaha

The Office is one of my favorites. I thought Scrubs was good as well. The Ranch might be worth checking out as well. I watched some of the first season with my husband and enjoyed it.
John, my week is already cursed, my car is in the shop and I'm stuck on Long Island, my cats miss me. I just hope they fix it tomorrow so I can take my car home. I was supposed to see Deadpool & Wolverine, but my car happened. I haven't watched anything good that I haven't already recommended, certainly not comedy wise. And I haven't really been able to concentrate on reading with the stress and pain, not only with dealing with the car, but haven't felt great either. Yeah, I just want to be home now and never leave the fortress of solitude.
Sundayyyy Weeeeeekkkly Reeeeaderrrrrr! Best show on Sundays, now with all-new dramatic readings by acclaimed actor of stage and screen, John Minton. It'll happen :) pps, Jakob the patreon theme music is 100% belltube-approved.
Well, if you want easily Ireland's best sitcom, check out Father Ted. IT was also great. For Sci-Fi, the first 6 series of Red Dwarf. Inbetweeners and Peep Show are great cringe comedies. Still Game if you want to want elderly Glaswegians get up to hijinks. Only 3 series and a Christmas Special. If you want a Historical-Fiction take, Blackadder. Glad you liked Assassin's Apprentice. Fitz is an amazing character. Frustrating, but amazing. Assassin's Quest got me so emotionally wrapped up in it that I legit threw my kindle because of Fitz's single mindedness. Just want to shake that boy. Also he should just never have a dog. Wolf... maybe. Dogs never. 23 years ago I went to a Studio Ghibli festival. I watched probably 4 or 5 movies but the only one I remember at all is Princess Mononoke. It is hands down the saddest and most traumatic movie I have ever watched. Keep tissues handy, you WILL need them. As far as sitcoms go, How I Met Your Mother is decent.
My frosty beverage tonight is a Twisted Tea. The no carbonation thing is key to enjoying such a common and trendy yet very tasty beverage. Can't wait until your next live stream! Satire! Watching on, the prose sample. I'll have to look up what purple prose means. I can see what the artist meant by that segment, but that type of ultra rich prose style which pays more attention to alliteration and flowery words for the sake of rythmn and flow is not my favorite. The strength to that segment to me was what Robin was trying to portray with the grandfather's grip, not the prose
@@Talking_Story I normally don't respond after a creator, but yes, it was a touching sentiment, conveyed in a way I would not, but I respect it nonetheleast. 😆Satire!
I had a 5-star start of the week and from a book that I didn't have these expectations for (John Grisham's Testament). Now I'm on Morning Star by Pierce Brown. I don't agree with Red Rising. It is below expectations.
For me Red Rising became better in the second trilogy but I get if it is not for some. Goes very dark and changes the formula quite a bit. Awesome you had a surprise 5 star read those are the best.
@@Talking_Story It is up against Memory, Sorrow & Thorn and I would put that book in Fantasy 102 if there was a fantasy curriculum. I'm going to continue to be "that guy"....Realm of the Elderlings isn't "a" series....it's 3 different series. :)
@@RhinoViper that is why so many have told me I can take breaks between.
@@Talking_Story Yes sir.
I got the first trilogy - Farseer, given to me in one go, so I did manage to read all three pretty much in a row. Totally loved them.

Lol. Oh Tom jump on board! I think you will really love this 1.
YES TOM YOU SHOULD 😁
So happy to see you loved Robin Hobb, she is my favorite author of all time, and this series (all Realm of the Elderlings books) have impacted my life, as I read it 3 different times (as a teenager, a young adult and a grown up) and each time the experience was so moving, but each time in a different way. I also read it each time in a different language, but that didn't change the emotional attachment I have. This is also the only literature tattoo I have 🙂
Oh wow. That is such the mark of good art to me. It can move with you through life and flourish along with you.

Hobb is part of the trinity - Robert Jordan, Hobb and Tad Williams. On any given day the order might change but they will always be my top three.
@@scottferris2686 impressive top 3!

Oh man I am so ready for Demon in White next and next month when I pick up my next Hobb read. You have got me hyped!!

*Fantasy*
Wars of Light & Shadow 2: Ships of Merior
- 310 pages in, Dakar aside, I'm loving it! Imagine if Robin Hobb took a Malazan-esque approach but with a Wheel of Time type of story. John, I know you've said you plan on tackling Malazan and WoLaS in the same year, I'd really advise against it and to stick to just 1 at a time.
*Horror / Thriller*
Joe Ledger 1: Patient Zero
- About a third of the way through, its picked. Simultaneously, Joe is a badass but also reads a bit too much like a power fantasy.
*Western*
Streets of Laredo / Larry McMurtry
- Slowly chipping away, I'm loving catcging up with some of our returning characters from Lonesome Dove.

@@MacScarfield nice!
Make sure to get The Willful Princess and the Piebald Prince novella which gives you the history of “ the Wit”. I read
it right after Assassin’s Quest ( the third Farseer).

I should get to hobb by the end of the month.🙌🏻

For sitcoms, check out Schitt's Creek if you havent already. Also me and the wife had fun with The Middle and The Goldbergs.

Oh gosh, but if you already loved Assassin's Apprentice so much, then I can't even wait to see how much fanboying is going to happen as you continue the Realm of the Elderlings. The pure gold has yet to come!
Hope that Demon in White lives up to all the hype for you 👀
I am currently reading Bury Your Gays by Chuck Tingle and John I am telling you, this HAS to be on your (spooky season) TBR!!

I hope the ride gets fixed up soon. I hope your week turns around for you and your cats.
Sundayyyy Weeeeeekkkly Reeeeaderrrrrr! Best show on Sundays, now with all-new dramatic readings by acclaimed actor of stage and screen, John Minton. Yeah, you are going to be sucked into Realm of the Elderlings. It won't stop at this trilogy. It's not like she forgets how to write. ps, I'm still working on your Book News theme. It'll happen :) pps, Jakob the patreon theme music is 100% belltube-approved.
I will have to take a break after the first trilogy to get going on WoLaS with my brother.
Well, I think I had to pick up Robin Hobb when I have finished mistborn.

Each series is a separate time period with a different Edmund Blackadder. Series 2 - 4 are fantastic.
Coupling for England's answer to Friends.

@@momo_genX the grip was everything. That touch that connection.

It is up against Memory, Sorrow & Thorn and I would put that book in Fantasy 102 if there was a fantasy curriculum. Boy, the story of Simon Mooncalf is where the dividing line starts between classic & modern. Daughter of the Empire is floating above that crevasse, as it was tethered to Rift War.
