Oh I'm not sure. Maybe something like 150k. Truck was pulling a little, took it in for an alignment and they told me the bushing were shot. I asked them to show me since it's pretty common in my experience that alignment shops will tell you, 'oh so and so is wore out' and sure enough, when levered on I witnessed the control arm moving significantly.
Is the problem for you that the ball joint shaft is spinning when you try to loosen the nut so you can't get the nut off? When I did this I used a regular C clamp like you'd get from your local big box home improvement store to clamp the ball joint tight into the control arm. Because the ball joint and control arm go together with a taper fit this allowed me to loosen the nut off.
I would have done anything for the lower arms to come out as easy as your. The adjuster sleeves were rusted and needed to cut every single one out with a sawzall. Ten metal blades later they came out
Great video. Thanks for taking your time on making this video. I noticed that your rack and Pinion is dropped do you have a video of that. Did you have to disconnect it from the steering column as well? Thanks
I did not do a specific video on removing the steering rack. There are videos and guides available for that though that are pretty good. Yes, to do so requires disconnecting from the steering column shaft. A decent guide is at www.4x4wire.com/toyota/maintenance/steering_bushing/
There are many things that can cause vibration at low and high speed. If you don't have the time, tools, knowledge to diagnose at home it would be a good idea to take it to a shop. They can diagnose for you and you can still perform the work at home to fix. Good luck!
CHANDEE SEE OUTDOORS I have that problem I suspect of the arms control or the springs..on my tacoma prerunner. .I changed almost everything in the suspension system except the Arms control and the springs and still vibrate. ..
+timtmo Probably around 8 hours for the whole thing. Doing a second time would be easier but I had to figure out some of this on the fly. Also I buggered up a ball joint nut and one of the long lower control arm bolts (which I had to wait for a new one from Toyota) so take my estimate with a grain of salt. Certainly doable in a weekend though and if you do it yourself you will save a LOT of money vs taking it to the dealership.
How many miles on your truck when you did this job? What made you decide to replace this, were you experiencing any symptoms?

Hey, having the same problem with the upper ball joint. What kind of press is that - doesn't look like the ones I can rent at the parts stores.

How long would you say the job took you, either the whole thing, per side, or each control arm? Looking forward to part 4.
