    so am i understanding the step right? so the amp has different input for the sub and the regular speakers? so you use the speaker output from the stereo and run it to the amp and then run the sub output to the sub input on the amp?

  • @cindymccready2093

    So I guess that it is not a good idea to ride in the creeks with the amps under water. Water comes in bike up to the seat. Your bottom gets wet so woofers and amp would be under at times. Do y’all think that the system would work for me? Thanks

    Just installed the Gen 3 Stage 5 on my new 2021 X3. Install is relatively straight forward- but time consuming. Give it a weekend if you’re doing it yourself. Worth the time and effort though. It’s a beautiful install.
    In terms of sound- Disable the preset on the M5 amps and set the gains and X-overs yourself. Terrible attempt at optimization and sounds absolutely awful if left on the preset factory settings. The 6.5s are extremely bright if the EQ is flat and need to be tamed with the EQ on the PMX3. Subs are also crossed over at 120 right out of the box and is too high and they become directional as hell. The 6.5s are good down to 60hz or so and do great crossed over at 80 where the subs should take over. The M2 Subs have plenty of punch even at 55mph. I added a ton of poly fill to each enclosure before install to get a little extra low end extension. They roll off pretty sharply below 45hz which is what you would expect for a pair of moderately powered 10s in a half cube sealed. That being said they will let you know they’re there. The M2s are a welcome upgrade to the primes.
    The system honestly sounds great once you undo all the factory presets. I couldn’t be happier. The new subs and amp have more than enough headroom to impress and the 6.5s sound smooth and silky once you calm them down with the PMX’s EQ. Color Optix on the fronts and cans are gorgeous and really look sharp. Very happy with the purchase and well worth the time and effort.

      Just started my install today. Any pointers for top notch sound playing metal, country, and rap?

    • @JoseSilva-je5dr
      @JoseSilva-je5dr Год назад

      Any way that I could get a hold of you? To talk me through on how to tune my stage 5? With the factory settings it’s horrible. It’s so distorted and drives me nuts

    • @ndoc8889
      @ndoc8889 Год назад +1

      @@JoseSilva-je5dr Are you getting distortion due to reaching the mechanical limits of the drivers, or is this a clipping issue?
      First thing is to disable the factory presets on the amp. There’s a switch on the amp. To set the crossovers, you can either do it electronically on the PMX or the amp. I did both. Switch the sub/rear channel filter to LPF and the front channel filter to HPF. Set them both to 80hz. If memory serves, i did increase the gain on the rear/sub channel slightly. I set my gains by ear with a vehicle off, but if you don’t know what distortion actually sounds like then have it set professionally with a DD-1 or scope- this is ESPECIALLY important for low frequency drivers. My background is in high end home audio so it’s easy for me to hear, but the majority of people don’t have any clue what distortion sounds like (just go to any large lake in the summer). The rest can be done with the PMX to your liking. I leave the lower frequency bands flat (0 gain) and then I trough rather aggressively starting around 1.5khz to cool off the aluminum tweeters. Otherwise you’re overpowered with the letter “S” and cymbals- this is obnoxiously fatiguing. A +1 bump at 250hz is helpful if you like a little warmer sound (I do personally). Use the sub volume on the deck for fine adjustments with various tracks.
      Don’t expect much below 45hz. You’ll feel it in the seat below that but there’s a huge audible drop off. This is NOT a rap system as far as I’m concerned. Too much open air and not enough enclosure volume or surface area to get that kind of extension. The subs peak in the mid 50s. Sounds great for everything else-especially rock, country and dance.
      Hope that helps.

    How do those front speakers mount? Are there separate pods or do you have to drill holes in the dash? You didn’t show that in the video.

    • @WrenchesRides
      @WrenchesRides  4 года назад

      You do not have to find the fuse box. There is a plug that is snapped into a dummy outlet above the start button by 5-7 inches and to the passenger side slightly. That will provide your switched power.

      Wrenches & Rides yeah I had to cut a zip tie and then there is a T20 bolt u have to unscrew under the shift gate where the break lines T off and then you can move the lines to get enough slack to set the subs in place.

    • @WrenchesRides

    • @WrenchesRides

      I do not have an accurate meter. I have my machine set up (via amp controls) that it can be run at full volume and not distort on a variety of songs. I ride with a helmet (Full face with shield) and I can tell you that at full volume it is almost too loud in the helmet and my seat shakes. I could not listen at full volume long without a helmet.
