- "Chasing the dragon" is the term addicts use to describe seeking that next high. Authorities are seeing more and more of that with methamphetamine.
They fear this powerful and dangerous drug could lead to a new wave of addiction and a public health hazard.
In a country that is still recovering from an opioid crisis, law enforcers are starting to see the emergence of super-powered versions of meth. They believe 95% of it is produced in "super labs" in Mexico.
Dealers find the psychostimulant more profitable and easier to distribute. Users are getting a quicker, more robust high. And that potency is killing people.
"What we're seeing is very pure crystal meth that is coming from south of the border. It is very inexpensive, it is very pure, and it is very deadly," said Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin Steele.

I started doing drugs since my teenage. Got addicted to meth for over 7 years. Meth addiction actually destroyed my life. I suffered severe depression and mental disorder. Microdosing was my next plan of care for my husband. He is 59 & has so many mental health issues plus probable CTE & a TBI that left him in a coma 8 days. It's too late now I had to get a TPO as he's 6'6 300+ pound homicidal maniac.

I drank a couple of 40's of King Cobra the other night, and after the beer was over so was the inhibitions that prevent me from shooting dope (Heroin, not meth), and I drove 20-30 different places, looking for dope. Fortunately everyone was dry. Sort of like a near-death experience.
Psilocybin saved my life. I was addicted to heroin for 15 years and after Psilocybin treatment I will be 3 years clean in November. I have zero cravings.
This is something that truly needs to be more broadly used in addiction treatment.
Psychedelic’s definitely have potential to deal with mental health symptoms like anxiety and depression, I would like to try them again again but it’s just so hard to source out of there.

My cousins overdosed and died about 2 weeks ago. As far as I know he was mainlining meth. They say the needle was still in his arm. Yes we all tried. Yes my heart breaks 💔
This occurred to a young friend of my kids only 17 years old as he did not even have a split second with the needle still in his arm upon death. I know there was a police investigation on his supplier however nothing had came from it on identifying his supplier unfortunately.
I’m so sorry, I have a relative who has been lost to this nasty drug. He’s still alive, but he’s not really there anymore.

@@supportyourtroopsathletes6460 If you can convince him to go, get him into a long term rehab. Look for state funding if money is tight, dig in and become an immovable force. If you catch this early enough, your son has a chance to get through it without permanent issues. Make sure you are careful when you speak to him, though. If he is a heavy user, he might be paranoid, and have difficulty understanding that what he perceives as real is the Meth. Meth psychosis is very real, and it can be concerning. There are groups on Facebook, etc, don’t forget to take care of yourself during this. Good luck to you!

I found almost a pound of this super meth in vehicle I towed. The police were telling me about it after the lab results came in. Crazy how transparent it looked. Like broken glass. I was shocked. Mostly shocked that I didn't do some of it before I called it in. I'm going on 6 years clean and sober. It wasn't all that hard to do the right thing and call the police. I'm proud of myself because 6 years ago I would have never called the police and I would have disappeared with it all.

People literally die because they don't go to the hospital on a meth od versus going and being treated getting 100% oxygen rescue fluids pumped IV and then the tranquilizer with possibly the majority of permanent damage avoided and full recovery

I never heard the term and though I am addicted to only the medically prescribed heroin known as hydromorphone 8 mg which is the highest amount issued today after returning from overseas, in which I am not happy about, I know it's a dangerous drug that people should absolutely avoid at all cost if possible. I wish that I never had the need to of have it prescribed however on the plus side, I cut back at least 50% of my script without help. Hoping to cut back more monthly.

My brother died of complications of a methamphetamine overdose, in august it'll be 17 years, feels like it is brand new even now.
I'm not pro meth but I think the 60 to 100 deaths per month will be related to pre- existing heath issues or dope cut with fentynel

Not specifically anymore, as far as I could remember people always called smoking crack or tweak chasing because nothing compares to the first hit. But I’m a young blood so it probably originated with opium
Back in the 70s & 80s it referred to chasing the base cocaine on a piece of tin foil, trying to get a hit. When you heat it from underneath, the base melts and runs away from the heat. Of course, all you crack heads already know this.

It is originally meaning to chase that elusive "perfect high" which became a phrase way back when opium was popular. Also, as smoke-filled opium dens are akin to a fire-breathing dragon's cave. Because at the time the most common drugs were alcohol, opium, sugar, and coffee/tea, the opium addict began to stand out with more addictive thinking. The phrase gained popularity when heroin became more common/popular than opium. Only recently has that phrase came back into common speech because of the way people are now smoking their opiates: heating it on foil and using a straw/pen which causes the tell-tale black lines from the drug running from the heat. I suppose one could apply that statement to other drug usage if the addict does display the signs of chasing that "perfect high".

Ive come across this stuff, last year i overdosed on meth (I also was drinking alcohol) i was paralyzed for 2 full days and couldnt do anything. It was scary af and felt more like a schizophrenic episode than a high.

Meth overdose usually leads to stroke and/or heart attack, which is why Benzodiazepines and beta blockers are used to counteract overdose of cocaine and/or methamphetamine, as well as hypertension meds, such as clonodine, are used for counteracting the deadly symptoms of stimulant overdose. The hospital can also pump a person with charcoal.

Maybe criminalization of drugs is the problem if it was easy to access pharma grade doses of amphetamines aka Adderall then less people would be turning to the pure meth you can buy on the street. Clean meth is not deadly unless it is an extremely large amount the real danger it poses is to your mental health.
No one in any world would substitute adderall for meth. The methyl group completely changes the drug into something 100x more potent. If meth users could be happy with adderall, then I’m sure they would just get that. It is not hard to access prescription amphetamines. You know only a couple decades ago, it wasn’t too hard to access pharma grade meth. All you had to do was tell your doctor you wanted to lose weight.
@@Front_Hole adderall is every bit as potent as this "super meth" sometimes even stronger and longer lasting than the s.m. depending on mg's. And prescription drugs are alot harder to get than street drugs are for someone who doesn't have a script.

I'm a recovering addict from the opioid pandemic here in Pa and I know a lot of people are and we're using meth to get off the heroin and are now addicted to it.
I met a chemist in a narcotics anonymous meeting who said the people supplying McD's with potatoes would give him $10,000 every once in a while to buy chemials to make meth then give it to their workers through an assigned dealer(s). Then if they tested positive for drugs and they wanted rid of them without paying severance, just fire them for the drugs. Kind of like the movie "Fast Food Nation".

When they say its made hydrochloric acid they arent lying but they dont mention that basically every other prescription or over the counter medicine is too. Thats because these compounds are not water soluble and need to be turn into an HCL salt form.

I've smoked only Meth for 26 yrs and by looking at me you would never be Able to tell. I have never noodle grooved the way meth is portrayed to make Ppl do. I've never smoked a bowl and felt the urge to do criminal things. I have all my teeth my face isn't all scared from picking. And I personally know many other ppl that are the same. Smoking crack with make you noodle groove and make you want to steal from ppl or places so you can afford your next hit. And that's because the high don't last very long and leaves you constantly wanting more. So let it be known PPL DON'T OVERDOSE ON METH! IF THEY DO TO MUCH THEY OVER AMP AND GO TO SLEEP AND WAKE UP FEELING HIGH.

They still don't care about people who suffer from addiction. In amarica compared to most of Europe and even Canada we still have a huge stigma agenst addiction. My addiction started from taking painkillers from a doctor from many injuries.

Chasing the dragon is a term used explicitly with heroin use. Chasing the dragon refers to smoking heroin on foil and chasing after the drug taill to capture the smoke from it. Usually black tar the drug leaves a residue on the foil. When they smoke ut they run it back n fourth across the foil with small 180 degree turns so it doesnt run to the edges. This trail often looks like the shape of a hand drawn chinesse dragon.
No, it's not exclusive to heroin at all, I first heard of it when friends smoked meth off of foil as described!

But usually benzos or even activated charcoal can help too. I just feel like them saying "theres nothing that can be done to help" is not only incorrect but misleading people to do nothing when an overdose occurs.
