So thanks a lot! You just cost me a bunch of money. Watching you eat your way to Chicago whetted my appetite and so I changed my coach seat to a roomette on the California Zephyr. LOL I figured I'm 82 and what am I saving money for anyway. I am soooo looking forward to this trip in September. Choo choo!
Wow, have a great trip!
I LIKE To say something
i just wanted to say how sorry for my self and everybody else
i was so sorry didnt mean it
and didnt know what i was doing and wont happen again
I don't care where you two take a train to.....if you recommended a trip I'd consider going! Your vlogs are the epitome of useful and mesmerizing, and you help us see the utility and beauty in every experience! 👏🏼💯
Awesome, thank you! We appreciate it!
Welcome to LA where I was born & raised. Union Station holds fond memories for me as I traveled from there to Indiana by myself when I was only 10 years old! It was an amazing adventure running through the cars of the train with another little girl I met that was traveling with her family. That established my love of trains and why I love your channel. That was in 1964!!!
Thanks for sharing!
Did you have to change stations in Chicago?
Isn’t it crazy how we were allowed to do things like that at such a young age…children barely walk around the block now…
I always enjoy an afternoon of armchair travel with my favorite Am Trakkers.
Thanks so much!
I love you two. You have made my Amtrak trips amazing. I love the trains. So far I've done the SW Chief. I hope to save enough to do more. I'm on SSI so it takes a while to save enough to do it. But thank you for your guides. Love ya.
Glad you like them! and glad you had a great trip!
I know this video is a year old but I am on the Southwest Chief (Chicago to Los Angeles) right now (July 31, 2023 - Aug 2, 2023). I’m in a roomette. Definitely an adjustment sleeping on a train. The crew and the food have been fantastic. Had a perfectly cooked steak last night. This afternoon, you can bet I’m trying the cheeseburger.
What an adventure!
A month before we took the Texas Eagle from LA to StL through El Paso and San Antonio (and back to Jefferson City)
I'm taking the Southwest Chief (LA -> CHI) next week! And then the Lakeshore Limited to NYC. I've watched so many of your videos to get ready. Can't wait :)
That is awesome! Have a great trip!
The Lakeshore Limited is quick one (19hrs) and it travels along the Hudson River (from Albany to NYP) before it arrives at Penn Station in Manhattan. It's fantastic.
Such a beautiful ride!
😊How was it?
@@rasta487 It was great! I loved the Southwest Chief leg of the trip the most - it was so relaxing and my train attendant was amazing. The Lakeshore Limited felt like a different experience, much busier and more crowded. But overall, I really enjoyed it and am hoping to do another trip someday.
This is a historic route, and I've seen quite a few changes. The Southwest Chief used to stop in Pasadena CA, Northeast of L.A., where most celebs would board & disembark during the '50's on ATSF's all sleeper Super Chief to/from Chicago. There was an all coach bi-level El Capitan train which ran the same route. For those with claustrophobia, I would recommend booking 2 roomettes so that 2 companions can sleep in the bottom berth. It costs more, but enjoyable for both travelers-especially Seniors with mobility issues.
Thanks for sharing and watching!
Have traveled Southwest chief twice, and love this trip from Chicago to Las Angeles. Going to be traveling on Southwest chief for a third time next February 2023. This train trip is fantastic and the sights are so beautiful.
Have fun!
I will be taking this train from LA to CHi on August 6 2024.. Ford time ever on US trains.. Thanks for this wonderful video
Many many years ago the Santa Fe Chief use to run through Glendora, CA, my home town. I'd go watch the train go through every chance I got. Watching that train started me on my life long love of trains. Great video, as always! Thank you!
Thanks for sharing
I grew up in Glendora as well! I remember the old train stop near the post office, but the chief was before my time.
I just love you two here's hoping I might have a fun loving relationship someday. Cheers
Thanks!
I just did this trip 2 days ago and it was my first Amtrak trip. You guys inspired me to take it when I discovered you this past year. Your tips made me understand what to expect and I was able unplug and relax. I can’t wait for my next trip!
Great to hear!
Cool. Were there any delays?
Hi!! How was your experience in the train? I am thinking about it because I hate to fly, but I know it’s a long trip. I am used to drive for many hours so I am a “though” girl, but I would like you to share your experience.
Another great video! My coffee always seems to taste better on Friday mornings!! You two are doing such a great job with your videos! Southwest Chief is definitely on my bucket list!
Thanks so much! Yes, add it to your bucket list!
Yay! Thank you! A new Amtrak video to enjoy!
I love your videos! So much better than watching any current events. Allie, you do such a great job editing.
Yay! Thank you!
They are such a beautiful couple! I love them they are blessed to have each other, and I love their Amtrak videos! I watch them over and over!♥️💯
You two are the best, thanks so much!
I’ve traveled this route at least 30 times since childhood and before Amtrak when it was still Santa Fe. The train was called the El Capitan. Still prefer the train to air travel! Thank you for taking me with you on your many train adventures.
Thanks for sharing!
Really appreciate the video. I'm taking the Southwest Chief in a roomette in August. Thanks!
Have a great trip!
I have taken this journey a handful of times and loved it each time. I am taking a trip down memory lane watching your video. :) I plan on taking it again in the spring. Peace to you.
As always you two are providing me with tons of enjoyment! Thanks so very much!
Glad you enjoy it!
Yall are the best. I'm planning a round trip IND to LAX to IND a year from now. Your videos have helped be prepare so well. Many thanks.
I'm recovering from cancer and I live vicariously through your videos I do plan to take Amtrak in a few months
Did you ever go?
Thanks for the video. So, relaxing. Nice People, too.
Awesome! My son is going to be excited to know he just has to bring pieces to play Chess. He's all about traveling as lightly as possible... and playing Chess.
That is awesome!
I love it. My train got cancelled, but I flew to San Diego. My last day in San Diego I took the train to L.A. The station in L.A. is beautiful. I can't wait to plan my long distance train trip that doesn't get cancelled. You guys have really changed my mind about trains. I'm taking the train to Maryland in a couple of weeks. I'm still excited.
That ride from SD to LA must have been great! Thanks for watching!
try the bus station in la
Thanks folks for the review of the LA to Chicago train. I will definitely be showing this video to my wife so I can drop a hint to begin train travel
Our pleasure! Thanks!
Wonderful video as always. Have a fabulous weekend.
Thanks!
Yes the plating of the food on the train looked appealing!
I absolutely love you guys videos and you helped me soooo much taking my very first train trip!! Thank you so much.
Allie and Rob, I had such a great time traveling with you during this trip. You take me places that I’m unable to travel due to a lifetime of fibromyalgia pain and fatigue. Thanks to the two of you, I can enjoy the train trips I’ve always wanted to take.
As a child, my sister and I traveled to Milwaukee, Wisconsin for some summers with our grandfather, Pa-Pa. I was 8 when our older kinda cousin took us there. That was before integration and before the Union Station closed in Nashville.
Thank you so much for sharing your delicious meals and views with me. I don’t think I have missed any trips because I check often to watch earlier ones. I especially love your narration styles. You’re fantastic.
Wow, thanks so much! We appreciate you watching!
@@GroundedLifeTravel
As always, watching you two travel is very much my pleasure.
Really enjoy your videos. I haven't been on a passenger train since before the Amtrak days, but I love them and I think your channel is great and helps many really know and understand what is happening today so I really think you guys do a great service, so thank you so very much!
Awesome, thank you!
Taking this train for the first time at the end of July. Looking forward to it!
Have a great trip
Thank you for a Great video, so well done. I love the relaxing, mellow background music.
Wow glad you enjoyed your time in Chicago👏🏻👏🏻 !! Hope you had a great time and will share more stories of your travels 😊😊
Thank you! Will do!
We’ve booked a roomette on SW Chief, KC to Flagstaff and back, for end of September. First sleeper trip for both of us, and your videos have really helped us with plans and expectations. Thanks!
Great video love seeing the countryside go by and your comments 😀
Thanks!
RE Shower Controls: First week of May2022 we rode The City of New Orleans to Chicago then The California Zephyr to Sacramento. Bedroom both trains. In both bedroom showers the water flowed as soon as the step 1 handle was turned away from the max cold position. Stopped flow when turned back to max cold. Never used the step 2 button. So, FYI, be aware (beware).
In the room vent on the first train someone had DIY inserted foam pieces to block air to one end of the bunk bed. 2nd train had a built-in section to keep air away from the top bunk. BTW, I had the chocolate flourless desert 😋
Thanks for sharing your info!
I’ve just been watching y’all’s channel for a couple of weeks and I love it. Great videos.
Way to go, Rob, sporting the Braves World Series Champs tee shirt!! I live in GA and I’m a HUGE lifelong diehard Braves fan….going all the way back to the 80’s when they lost way more games than they won.
Thanks so much! We are from Atlanta! Been watching our whole lives, what a great season it was!
Have made this trip from Arizona to Galesberg, today I made it with you, thanks I enjoyed it very much, I am know 82 and don't take as many trips
Thanks for watching!
This is the one I need! Thank you!
You're so welcome!
Wonderful! I used to take the Coast Starlight a few times per year going from home in LA to Portland OR for school. I'd meet schoolmates who'd get on (or off, on the way home) in Sacramento and Davis and we'd have a great time the rest of the way. Going through the Cascade Mountains in the view car was awesome!
Very cool!
I’ve had the pleasure of riding this train 3 times and it is a wonderful experience! I may do it again!
Great to hear!
The best channel on the tube, Thankyou guys, The wife and me have decided to to book this trip for our 20th wedding anniversary next year. In between our big trip to the states. Your channel is very calming and we watch it all the time in the UK. Thankyou. All the best Eugene & Yvette
Thanks, have a great trip!
Besides Jack Stack BBQ, you could walk across that foot bridge in KC and go to Lidia's Kansas City Restaurant for some nice Italian. You could go a few blocks farther to the art district downtown for some boutiques, to Mannie's Mexican, Oklahoma Joe's BBQ and some other wonderful eateries within a few blocks. There are also a number of bars in the area with unique cocktails. In any event, thanks for the recommendations!
Thanks for sharing the info!
I’ve worked in Fort Madison for many years and always wondered what the view was like going over the swing span bridge from a train. Now I know :) Thanks!
Very cool!
I remember taking this train as well as the Amtrak Wolverine in 2015 from Ann Arbor to the Grand Canyon. It was very expensive but it was soooo worth it. Taking the train is too underrated these days.
Beautiful couple. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
Starting to feel a little skiddish. I have a trip on hold. Wanted to do a sleeper but it only sleeps 2. Going with coach. On hold right now.
I'm booked on this in September! Can't wait!
I took the Southwest Chief three times from Chicago to Albuquerque NM when I relocated in 2011 from NJ. I have been living in Albuquerque since. ..November 2011.
The train you passed in Gallup name Railrunner is a really cool train service from Santa Fe, New Mexico to Belen, New Mexico. It does travel as far west as Gallup and as east as Tucumcari, New Mexico (I think)
The market in Albuquerque actually services people on the street, and the apartments above it 😁
I love your videos! You guys are great!
Thanks so much and thanks for your info! Those trains have the best paint schemes we've seen, we love those Railrunner trains, even if we've never been on them.
@@GroundedLifeTravel of course! They do have a very unique design! It's super affordable and makes frequent stops along the way in smaller New Mexico towns. I hope you guys get the opportunity to ride it soon! Look out for roadrunners when you pass through again!
That is a pretty train!
The Rail Runner only travels North-South between Santa Fe and Belen. It doesn't travel East-West at all, they were near ABQ when they saw the RR. It's fun take the RR from ABQ to Belen and visit the old original Harvey House.
The Roadrunner only runs from Santa Fe to Belen. I live in Los Ranchos de Albuquerque and train station is in walking distance from where I live. It only runs north and south.
I really enjoy your videos as they help me prepare for my eventual trips. I've done the Cardinal, Lake Shore Limited, Empire Builder and California Zephyr. I've got this one scheduled for next March; however, doing it in the opposite direction.
Great to hear! Have a good trip!
I'm addicted to your vogs..keep them coming.. Please and Thank you 🤗🤗 🙋🏽♀️🙏🏾
Vlogs..👍🏾
Glad you like them!
This brought back memories. My wife and I took this exact route from L.A. to Chicago last month starting May 12. My first ever Amtrak ride. I am very active in the Amtrak Fans group on Facebook and whenever newbies ask questions about something you've covered in a video, I always recommend your channel and give them the link so they can get directly to it.
Thanks so much! We appreciate it!
We were almost on the same train, ours was from LA on May 8th!
@@GroundedLifeTravel What a shame. I would have loved to have had a chance to say "hi" and tell you in person how much I enjoy your videos. We took the Empire Builder from CHI to SEA leaving CHI on May 22. I think we just missed each other on that train, too.
Thank you for sharing. Enjoy your videos and plan to take this train next year.
Awesome, have fun!
Can't wait to take a train trip later this year. From San Diego to Chicago. Keep the videos coming. GO BRAVES!!
Have fun! Season is almost here! Go Braves!
Love you guys. You are such a sweet couple who gives good information. Love your Amtrak videos.
Thanks so much!
Great t-shirt Rob at breakfast the first morning! Go Braves!!!
Awesome, go Braves!
Thanks so much for this video. I'm taking the Southwest Chief in the opposite direction in just 1 week and I can't wait! I've been looking a videos about the trip and yours is the best one I've seen and I especially like that it is so recent which really helps. Good luck on all your journeys.
Have a great trip!
Great Video, one of you best yet. I really enjoyed this one.
Thanks so much!
Great video!!!!! Love the long distance trip videos

I'm leaving on the 19th of June on this route. Thank you for sharing this. It helped me formulate a plan! So excited to be on the rails again.
Glad it was helpful! Have a great trip!
Taro is a root vegetable, like potatoes. So your vegetable aversion is safe.
Thanks! This means a lot to me!
You guys always give great presentations.
Thanks!
I love these videos. Ive taken trips based on your vlogs!
Well done!
Looks like a cool way to travel. Calming.

Thank you so much for video ❤
This video made me more excited to go because me and my family are also going on a train from LA to Chicago on Sat, Sep 9
I love your videos. This is the next trip we want to take.
Awesome! Have fun!
Rob, anything tastes good if you slice it thin, fry it, and salt it liberally. lol
ETA: I really enjoy your Amtrak videos. They are thorough, informative, and really show your enjoyment of train travel as well as your understanding and acceptance of its limitations.
Thanks! and haha yes you are right!
Thanks for posting this!! There are virtually NO videos of the Chief or Zephyr eastbound. Fun to watch!
Glad you enjoyed it! Interesting, we didn't realize most of them are Westbound!
Well, tomorrow is the big day! The SW Chief to Chicago then the Lake Shore Limited to Albany/Rensselaer NY!! BTW, while telling friends about our upcoming trip, if I can't answer about a specific route, sleeping accommodations, or other items, I always recommend Grounded Life Travel to get the information that one needs. Safe travels to you on your future travels!! 🙂
Amazing!
Thank you! Cheers!
Glad I found you guys... love your advice (just subscribed).
looks like you were filming from the right side going through Gallup...left side has the beautiful views of the magnificent plateaus
Great Video
I just did the Chief last month. Chicago to Los Angeles
Great Job Happy Holidays Enjoy Travel
Thanks!
Always enjoy your videos….I’m an avid rail buff and have travelled many of the routes you have filmed.
Cool, thanks!
I remember Albuquerque traveling to or from (?) Chicago to LA or LA to Chicago. I remember the vendors selling earrings and trinkets with tons of turquoise. Warm and beautiful, but we didn’t stray too far from the platform.
Yes, that is the place, always some action at that stop!
Love the background music....very relaxing
Glad you like it
@@GroundedLifeTravel I have tried to find it but haven't had any luck....thanks so much for all the great content !
Going on Amtrak in mid-September Capital CLE to CHI and Southwest Chief to LAX always enjoyed the trip. Don't forget the lounge in Chicago and Los Angeles when in a sleeper which are really nice. Plus don't forget Red Cap service, except CLE, take you both from and to your train. I am on a cane and appreciate the service. CLE to CHI in coach as it is only around six hours but to the coast will have a bedroom for a lot more space and private john and shower. Always had a great experience since 2013, except for 2020 and COVID. Your coverage of the trip is really good and does cover the high points.
Thanks for sharing!
Love your Amtrak videos you guys are the best, we are traveling the the Empire Builder next month Chicago to Seattle watched your video on that trip just awesome.
Awesome! Thank you!
I remember riding the Southwest Chief back in 2018 but I would mostly go down below to the Cafe and eat junk food 😆 but I have eaten in the dining car when they would announce open seating 😃
This train keeps breaking down 😄😆good luck with that.., never again!!
Jacks SatcK!!! Been there many times, flat out the best BBQ in the US!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BURNT ENDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We loved it!
Good job on the narration, Alee.
Thanks!
It's official, I'm going to find a way to take this trip! Awesome
Have fun!
Hey, I spent the night at LA Union Station a couple weeks ago, and leaving on the LS/MRR to meet up with the SWC in KC tonight. Looking forward to it!
Have fun! KC is a great station!
Lol. Rob and the Terra chips. 😂
I am flying out to LAX for a cruise out of Long Beach and will return home via the S.W. Chief (LA > CHI) and Capitol Limited (CHI > WAS), both in a roommette. Thanks for the inspiration. ❤
11:20 nice to see a fellow Braves fan!
Go Braves!
Nice Video of trip
The food looked absolutely amazing. Holy smokes I wish we had this on the EAST COAST! I take the Vermonter at least 2x per week and proper food would be awesome. Just something like the Bordrestaurant on the ICE.
Yes, the west coast food is better, but we've heard something is coming to the east coast soon!
I really enjoy your videos. I had taken this trip with my mother for Amtrak Vacations. My I make a suggestion for future videos is to talk about some the downsides of rail travel and how to problem solve when events happen. This same train was delayed for 18 hours and we ended having to make additional arrangements to get to our destination. In my opinion it's important to share examples of things that can happen and how to navigate them.
Great idea, thanks!
Nice video, enjoyed it. Seen many of yours on Amtrak.
Glad you enjoyed it!
good job hope u enjoyed ur ride
Yeah thanks
