That guy was a class act. I recorded this as I watched in realtime and even Jim Vance (the news host who hated wrestling) was impressed.

Another great wrestler that the WWF wiped their asses with, making him play a silly cartoon character. Rule of thumb: Don't bother giving a Canadian wrestler a gimmick. Canadians can do without. Some of the best wrestlers of all time come from Canada. Gimmicks aren't necessary. You only need a gimmick when you're an over the top personality and can't get over any other way. Some gimmicks, like Rick Rude's, are passable because he's playing an exaggerated version of himself. But a lot of them are just stupid. Rick was good enough without the gimmicks. So was Curt Hennig. I grew up in that era, so as a kid I have fond memories of the goofy characters, but as an adult, I just want realistic characters and storylines that suspend my disbelief.

That is so well said. The WWF ruined so many careers for no reason. And I’ll never forgive what the did to Dusty…

Rick Martel was from Quebec, not Canada.
