What are you talking about? Star Wars, Empire and Jedi are an all time trilogy! Disney's been incredibly restrained in only releasing Rogue One and Andor so far. They could have been vomiting out a dozen films and TV shows by now, AND...I heard that Lucas gave them the bones of both a prequel and sequel trilogy when he sold.

The first two Dune movies are beautiful feats of cinematography and incredible sci fi movies on their own merits, but honestly Dune Part 2 in particular is not a very good Dune adaptation, so I am left with no idea how Dune Part 3 can meaningfully adapt Dune Messiah and possibly parts of Children of Dune with the status quo as it stands at the end of Dune Part 2 as a starting point. I'll just have to wait and see and hope for the best.
Still, all my Dune book series fan gripes aside, Villeneuve's Dune adaptations are still obviously vastly superior to anything Disney has ever done with Star Wars, and indeed that gulf in quality is so colossal that it is helping to highlight just how poorly Disney has performed as the custodian of the Star Wars franchise.

It's a possibility that we could see the 3rd film in December of 2026. It was around 2 1/2 years between Part 1 and 2.
It all depends on how the pieces fall into place. The budget/financing is #1, the film sets have to be built, the actors have to be free to film, all of the new wardrobes need to be tailored, film the initial photography, and finally all of the post CGI.
It will be interesting if they can pull it off.

  • @b_g_c3281
    @b_g_c3281 3 месяца назад +2

I know that what I'll say next will not only be in the distinct minority, but most likely annoy, if not upset the enthusiastic hopefuls, but....
....I myself will have more-than-a-little trepidation about the third film.
    Here's why:..
I fear that certain, key aspects of plot will be muddled if not worse (( oversimplified? ...abandoned altogether?!? )), BECAUSE of the choices(( MISTAKES; ERRORS )) Denis made within Part-1 and 2, namely the diminished(( ALMOST ERASED )) significance and thus presence of both the Spacing Guild and the Mentats....
I suppose I could try to speculate as to why [ Denis Villeneuve ] made those choices, but at this time, I feel that I don't have the wherewithall, let alone the patience...
Because of those decisions -- marginalizing/diminishing the significance of the Spacing Guild, and relegating the Mentats to at best a curiosity(( one not even afforded the dignity of even being identified/addressed within Part-1 )) problems WILL immediately crop up and from the very beginning...
For example:: Because of how the Spacing Guild were rendered, I don't see how we are going to really care about one of the key antagonists -- _Edric, a Spacing Guild Navigator in mid-to-late stage, Spice-induced mutation_ -- let alone understand/appreciate his motivations...
I'm not even going to try to express my immense disappointment with how Chani was portrayed, but even so, there will need to be a thorough workaround in order to ensure that the ending will be at least mostly(?) in keeping with 'Dune Messiah'
I want to have hope, but honestly, I have trepidation instead....

I don’t care when it comes out, within reason of course. Just do the story justice. Don’t rush something out to capitalize on some type of perceived hype or because you need to get the merch out by a certain time. I'm pretty sure what the December 2026 film is, is very much locked down with more specific plans that Villeneuve is on-board with, but they're not gonna publicly announce until start of production gets close to actually starting, in case not everything can get locked in place for it.... and I am confident it is Messiah, and not just because of some headlines that are making hasty assumptions. I figure the script for Messiah might have simply happened to reach a state that's up to whatever high standard Villeneuve set for it.
    BUT.
I also think the "break" from Dune is still a thing for Villeneuve. I have a... feeling that we will get some kind of announcement for a "smaller" Villeneuve film very soon, which could as well be in production if not post-production already, while the project referred to in this news probably isn't even starting production this year yet.

Rama 2 and sequels are a lot more interesting and exciting, in my very humble opinion. I really want Dune 3 to be made, but how do they reconcile what happened with Chani at the end of Dune part 2 where she should be a central figure with a tragic ending for her in Dune Messiah.

I wonder if Hollywood will force a happy ending on this movie. Like they did with the 1984 Dune and 1982 Blade Runner. The story as it is in the book could disappoint people. It could do fine at the box office because people think it's a hero story like Dune 1+2. Like The Last Jedi was a box office hit even though people hated it. I am sure Villeneuve will end his Dune saga here, so that maybe okay. Unlike Star Wars that had to pick up the mess to make the final film in the trilogy.

If Disney / Lucasfilm hires me to write stories for movies I will dominate Villeneuve’s Dune 3 or WB will move the film. I have stories to out pace The Infinity Saga! So Disney / Lucasfilm are you ready to get serious about Star Wars or do you want to continue to let people play in a sandbox? Give Hope a chance and give fans the Star Wars movies they deserve! And please set me loose to help dominate your rivals Disney! Have Hope fans!

There is NO WAY that stupid Rey movie is going to get anywhere. I don't even see it getting greenlit & going into full production with the amount of money they've lost in the last few years & how badly SW is doing right now thanks to Acolyte which even normies & lefties are trashing.

Honestly, I believe that the Hollywood Studio system needs to chill out and let Denis Villeneuve make the types of films that he's envisioned. Seriously if Villeneuve wants to attempt to tackle the Star Wars Universe; great! But I'm against the idea. Star Wars is a huge crap show without anyone at the helm to offer direction and guidance. What needs to happen with regards to Star Wars; is they need someone who can merge the source material, into a cohesive plot, and find a director who's willing to offer constructive guidelines for production. Too much time has been wasted on making mediocre movies; not something that wow's the audiences the way the original stories did.
The reason why I don't think that Villeneuve's the right choice to rescue the Star Wars Universe, is because they need a singular grownup at the helm to steer the movie to a fitting conclusion.
Villeneuve is someone who can respect the source material of Dune and make the production something fresh; honestly, I would love to see Villeneuve tackle the Butlerian Jihad, something that hasn't been envisioned yet? Maybe even a story using the later books to tell the story of the titular Atreides of old earth?
Villeneuve isn't a Star Wars fan, so him taking on a dumpster fire of Star Wars is a bit like having a sculptor designing a Skyscraper. While the sculptor has the vision, he doesn't possess the expertise at designing for the structural load for a building to support the mass required. I'm hopeful you understand my metaphor.
It would be great to think that Denis can remake the Star Wars universe into something new, but Denis already has enough vision in his current universe to continue making movies into the foreseeable future.
Honestly, Hollywood needs to back off and allow Villeneuve to work on projects that excite him. He's already shown us that he's committed to providing very interesting storylines that haven't been seen before.
Maybe, have Star Wars writers hone their craft better and we'll come back to that universe? But, if they keep making crap? Then Star Wars will become an even bigger joke than it already has become!

Current year Star Wars isn't worthy of being a stain on Dune's undergarments. If Dune Messiah, it would decimate Star Woke Now Blunders.

They kind of screwed up the story already. I'm guessing dune 3 is going to be a train wreck. The source material from the second book on gets really long winded and never really captures the magic of dune. Book 2 sets up the god emperor. Like Paul has kids. One of them is kind of a little unlikeable brat. He grows up to be... oh that's the next book. He grows up to be a worm. He becomes emperor but he is still a little brat. No one likes him. Duncan clone tries to kill him. The end.

I honestly do not care if DV makes another Dune movie or not. In fact, I would rather he didn't.
He has ruined the Dune franchise for a generation by making it a superficial good v baddy army boy king wins story on Mars.
People not familiar with the books would come away from both movies with zero understanding of the mystical, philosophical and political depths of the books. They would not understand the Bene Gesserit, the spice, the Guild, the Imperium and the breeding project let alone prescience.
All they will see is cute boy on goody side gets attacked by baddies and has some weird dreams then spends a year whispering and shouting like Austin Powers coming out of the ice.
What a load of forgettable le garbage these movies are.
Villeneuve is nothing more than a jumped up cinematographer who writes cringe as fk dialogue.
Let his version die off and be forgotten for a few years then let's have a proper visionary do a multi season, ten episode per season with the first and last episode being 90 minutes and the rest 60 minutes version of Dune.
Yeah I said it, fk DV.
I mean, I hate to have to say it because based on his interviews I actually love him as a person. He has a wonderful personality but is a horrible director who doesn't understand the difference between complexity and depth.

If you asked me in the late `80’s what I would be more excited to see, more Dune or more Star Wars, it would be Star Wars all the way. Today there is no question it’s Dune!

REALLY REALLY REALLY HOPE IT DOESN'T AFFECT DENIS'S ABILITY TO COMPLETE THIS TRILOGY AS A MASTERPIECE. Anyway head to head with Star Wars, no comparison Disney has destroyed the franchise PERIOD.

I'm not a huge fan of the Dune saga to begin with (though I've read the first 3 books and seen the 1984 film, turn-of-century mini-series, read several of the prequels and seen the Vil films). The story simply is NOT appealing to me as I'm not into tragedies. But Vil told the story well. I can at least admire the craftsmanship.

I think Villeneuve has bought himself a lot of goodwill from the fanbase with Dune 1 & 2. (🤔Funny how honoring canon and making good movies will do that. Disney? Are you taking notes?) I'm willing to wait if it means "Dune Messiah" is a quality match to the first and second movies.

Just stop calling it part 3, it's not, it's the next book, dune messiah, followed by children of dune.
The whole part thing isn't a trend to waste people's time with an absolute nothing first half, it's the first book divided for manageability

I will no longer see a movie if every review raves about the "stunning cinematography." The storytelling has been terrible in both Dune movies so far. If you are unimpressed by artsy visuals, both movies are unwatchable. I won't see another film made by this director. He is way over-hyped.

Denis gave fans what we wanted: A glorious, beautiful, accurate, and well acted movie.
Star Wars: Our fans are horrible, and Ezra Miller will be the next Jedi and some women who will immediately blame yt men for their poor acting. Now go buy the merchandise, now!
I love Lucas Star Wars, and I'm fine with that. Other artists have created IP that is worth a wider audience.
