Another fantastic British band that Americans are largely unaware of.
Roger Chapman was such a unique, soulful and powerful singer. The only one who could effectively cover Howlin' Wolf and actually add something. Chills.

Best live band ever. Saw them many times including the recording of the live side of Anyway. I first saw them at Corby Grammar School Friday-night dance Spring or Summer term 1967 or 1968 iirc (they appeared on BBC ToTP, or maybe BBC2 OGWT, later that same year or next). Leicester band Broodly Hoo had been booked to play. Rob Townsend had been their drummer and the agency who represented Broodly Hoo was part-owned by 'Charlie' Whitney. Only after seeing them on BBC TV did we realise the weird (and brilliant) band that knocked our socks off that night was actually Family. Still my most memorable gig. I walked Kath McGuiness home that night.

The filthiest 1 bar groove and the nastiest voice. Some bands like to brag how primal they are. This kicks their ass 50+ years in the past

Seven excellent albums and a handful of fine "loose" songs. Many hated his sound, but Chappo is in my top 5 of greatest rock voices. I only saw/heard Family live at the Rotterdam Festival June 1970. I had just bought the Song For Me album. And their best had yet to come...
Streetwalkers didn't quite do it for me.

Kind of an avant garde take on the blues. Reminds me a lot of early Can for some reason.

May I say Led Zeppelin took some sound from those guys? Man, I don't know for you, but I hear "How many more times" there. If you listen to Family's "Old songs, new songs", Chappo's voice sounds like the 70's Robert Plant's voice. I didn't know that band since a week ago... a good discovery I must say.
