FYI fellow fans of Steve's videos please read my whole comment it may help you. I recently had a dripping relief valve so I knew to check the expansion tank (thanks to Steve's videos). When I checked it it read zero but I was curious as to why wasn't water coming out schraeder valve if in fact the internal diaphragm had failed. If the diaphragm failed water would now be occupying the space the air charge should be and it should shoot out the schraeder valve when it's depressed but none did. Long story short its not the diaphragm failing on these tanks its a tiny o-ring type seal on the schraeder valve core that fails allowing the 12 psi air precharge to escape and now there's no air cushion left to allow water expansion so relief valve will leak. I removed the shredder core and replaced it with one from a spare car tire and refilled the 12 psi with an air compressor problem solved. You can get schraeder valve at tire shops or even a bicycle if need be. Saved me the hassle and expense of a new tank when all it needed was a shraeder core. You'll need to have some additional knowledge on how to purge the boiler after replacing the relief valve. Steve says once they leak they have to be changed he's right in my case because it still leaks a little even though the pressure in the boiler is no longer exceeding the 30psi limit. Either way I did all the above just from memory of seeing Steve perform these steps over the years. Hope the schraeder valve tip helps someone because that tank is on TIGHT so tight the whole boiler was lifting when I was initially trying to remove it prior to coming up with the schraeder valve fix.

Can I check the pressure of the expansion tank under normal operation or do I need to drain my boiler 1st? I'm experiencing this exact scenario with my Burnham oil burner with my circulator pump running constantly. I changed the high vent and little by little air is coming out of my system. It was previously leaking nonstop. Thanks

Stock up on filters before they are on back order, and tanks, tanks will rust , and bio diesel has high salt content. Ethanol attracts water, causing rust and issues.. look into testing Ethanol content, you do it by adding water, creating a layer, look it up you'd enjoy it. Oh bio diesel is more money, the grain grown is worth more than the diesel it makes, most is made out of canola, it's a government funded project, causing more pollution, think of the fuel being burned to grow the grain. Its one big shit show moma
