I'm always going to have a soft spot for Freddy's Dead. I remember recording it onto a VHS tape back when it premiered on Pay-Per-View back in '92. Watched it all the time as a kid. This was the Freddy I was most familiar with until I finally saw the other Nightmare films later on. Even more than the movie itself, I always loved how the end credits did a recap of the entire franchise to that awesome Iggy Pop song! Made me excited to check out the other movies.

This movie holds a real special moment for me... it was the first rated R movie my dad took me too, i was very young like 6 which still surprised me.. my older brother came too which made it feel like guys night out and made me feel older.
Like you tony, i was watching horror movies way too young than i shouldve been and actually seen part 1 before this, and only heard scenes from word of mouth about Parts 2 thru 5.
Three things really stayed in my brain since that early viewing. The map scene and the video game scene were so hilarious to me, and i thought it was the coolest thing ever.
Third, the end credits montage absolutely BLEW my mind away. As a 6 year old seeing flashes of some of the most insane shit in the series of movies was overload for me. For years since i slowly seentl he rest of the series, that montage and scenes were burned in my head. It was joy to see those scenes when i finally ended up watching 2, 3, 4 and 5 later on.
Thanks for letting me relive this!!

I do agree with you tony. This film may be underrated but I think the comedic tone, especially the one liner puns, that Freddy does make it work. And to answer your question Tony the thing that freddy did with that one Stoner kid was from the Nick Arcade show.

14:12 - The Demonic Warlock of Dreams
    38:21 - Dr. Krueger's hearing Aid

In the beginning after Freddy hurls John out of the dreamworld the barrier closes as Freddy tries to escape Springwood. It was collecting the souls of Carlos, Spencer, & John that he was able to escape Springwood

    • @ConstantineFurman
      @ConstantineFurman 11 месяцев назад +1

No, it was Maggie. He wasn't able to leave on his own. He has to be in someone's mind. John was now an amnesiac, so he couldn't travel with him. But inside, say Maggie or Jason's mind, he can leave Springwood.
Collecting the souls of Carlos, Spencer, and John would mean nothing anyway because Freddy is engorged on souls in this movie. He's the most powerful in this film that he is in the entire series. Having wiped out the youth population of Springwood gave him godlike powers to influence reality.

Really enjoyed your discussion, I was in the live chat for a little bit but had to get back to work at my shop but you talked about wanting to watch the series Freddy's Nightmares... my co-host and I are going to riff/review certain episodes later this year, we'd love to have ya on for one of them like a reaction/riff/review situation :) also your reaction/discussions are a lot of fun you should totally do a reaction series on your patreon or twitch to the series over time. I just know you are gonna have a field day with most of the episodes and the Freddy wraparounds are "cheesy" GOLD! :) great stuff

I don't just like Freddy's Dead, I love it! It's my third favorite after 1 and 3 and am very fond of it from my childhood and still have my VHS.
As for the Freddy makeup, my theory is that as he collects souls his skin has heals, which explains why the makeup looks less and less like a burn victim each film. Who knows, maybe as part of that deal with the dream demons he could become fully healed if he brings them enough souls?
And I like Freddy's Nightmares, but I always get to the second episode which hits a little too close to home and makes me depressed.

weird hearing Lucy somewhere else! Also as far as trauma repression goes, it is possible to assist in a trial while also repressing. IT seems common that most will remember some element of it but blank the event, cause I know I did lol

I don’t think the character is supposed to always say “telephone” that way. She’s just emphasizing because she’s nearly yelling at them. As to the movie, I kind of hated it at first, but it’s grown on me.

Yeah people talk a lot of shit about this installment, and I agree it's not in the top three. But I like it better than parts 4 or 5. It's totally Looney Tunes and it's hilarious. It's also the only installment within the original continuity that attempts to address Freddy's background a bit. I like the idea of the "dream people", even though the execution was a bit silly. It did plant a seed of desire in me to see that aspect of the lore explored a little more. Some fan-made films have done a decent job of touching on that, but not to a very satisfying extent. But, yes, the movie is very cheesy. Just look at Freddy on the VHS cover. Even he kinda wants his name taken off this thing lol. I also never understood the whole "every town has an Elm Street" thing. I get that they made that the title to suggest this could be happening anywhere. But in the context of the story, I don't get it. Is Freddy bound specifically to places called "Elm Street"? Maggie says, "But this isn't Springwood" but like, why does she think that Freddy can't leave Springwood? If so, why does she believe that? There's no foundation for that. Freddy rebuts by saying every town has an Elm Street. Like, so? Does that mean Freddy can't go anywhere that doesn't have an Elm Street? Did Camp Crystal Lake have an Elm Street? WHAT ARE THE RULES and why are there even rules?
