I lost my virginity later than most in life and I have to say it was a big lesson in not holding things on a pedestal. It was so disappointing 😂
Since then I have developed a more healthy relationship with sex but I still can’t see that if I were still a virgin now, how that would make it ok to hate on other people and go on a murderous rampage? I’ve even been messed about by women in the past but that doesn’t make me hate all women, what happened between me and my abusive ex and the one who lead me on only to proceed to sleep with most of my friends is between me and them, not me and all women ever. If anything it was women who were most supportive after all that I’d been through, it was very easy for a lot of men to just smirk, roll their eyes and say “women”.

I once tried the whole "waiting until marriage" thing because I went to Catholic high school and college. I ended up losing my v-card at a very late age.

It seems like the "most important thing in the world" until you realise that there are actually important things in the world. Like I grew out of the mindset as soon as my first exam period started because I realised that childish thoughts about sex wouldn't get me anywhere in life. If you can't let go of the idea of sex being that important then you're dooming yourself to following the incel mindset. It boggles me that they consider sex to be more important than companionship of any sort like, if you're struggling that much get a dog, they love you unconditionally and will be your best friend for life.

I believe porn and the sexualization of women has a lot to do with it. It's been proven in scientific studies that porn lessens empathy towards rape victims.
If you treat sex as the be-all-end-all, you'll be greatly disappointed. Yes, sex in itself can be a great experience, but like any drug, the after-effects wear off. If you put sex on a pedestal, you'll never gain fulfillment. Too many people confuse sex as a form of validation of love. It most certainly isn't. It's a validation of lust and animal attraction, that's it. When people aren't taught properly about sex, it's no surprise that people will have misguided views of it. Education, especially about sex, is very important.

for many men, your sex life is directly tied to your ego...its how we measure how competent and desired we are to the opposite sex. Those things = strong man that other men want to be like. Elliot rogers was very attractive, rich, had a rich famous dad, so for no one to want him he must have had a personality that was absolutely intolerable for him to be around or overlook. One day before the Plymouth shooting, the guy uploaded a video talking about his life. He posted it on youtube but shared it on reddit as well , on a page I used frequently. I genuinely felt bad for the guy but after I heard about what he did, I have no remorse for him. It's one thing to have issues and another thing to take innocent lives because of your problems.

Considering losing your virginity as a achievement/trophy is an incredibly western social pressure. In my country, they recently did a study of over 1000 people and 70% of respondents aged 18-30 were virgins. It's not a huge sample size but anecdotally from people I know back home, I would agree with the results
EDIT: Country is Malaysia and the study was done by Durex. I know a lot of comments are going to say that it's because religion/oppression but as an agnostic person who was born and raised in Malaysia, I would say that Malaysia is genuinely pretty progressive in some aspects (obviously with vast variation based on how urban or rural an area is + other socioeconomic factors). I live in a suburban equivalent area in one of the states that's considered to be more conservative. Conversations around sex by the younger generation is honestly very like "if it happens, it happens" and the generalized assumption (everywhere except maybe the capital) is most people up to the age of 18-20 are virgins and then it's just a 50-50 lmao

Indian here. Can confirm that for most parts of the nation, if you are not a virgin, you are not preferred for marriage or as a potential date (unless its tinder in cities I guess?). In some places it is so bad that women get hymen reconstruction surgeries to fake "virginity", even if they never had slept with anyone before. If you have slept with someone in the past, it is automatically assumed that you will cheat on your spouse and even possibly have STDs or a love child hidden somewhere. Only cheap men praise other men for the number of women they sleep with. Everyone else and their parents value virginity here lol. what I don't get about this hypermasculine worldview is, how are you supposed to like women/not be homosexual? If you view anything feminine with disgust (no flowers, no nice-smelling things, no pretty colours, etc.) and only embrace what is aggressively masculine, how are you supposed to suddenly switch hats and be intimate and loving with a soft, feminine woman? Love needs to be the basis of any committed relationship, not just the drive for sex and counting up bodies
The interesting thing is: I see both political movements - online feminism/ifeminism (as opposed to all other types of feminism) and the manosphere as being two sides of the same traumatised, jaded coin. Both sides have very unhealthy views towards each other. I don't think the manosphere hates feminism because of the equality that it has brought women necessarily. I think it's more that they feel like women have an ego to them these days that they "dont deserve". They feel that this "ego" leads them to act in very liberated ways. As a result, I see the manosphere feels less able to control they circumstances around them. As women are being encouraged to be sexually liberated and independent girlbosses, the manosphere sees they feel like they can no longer trust women in an intimate relationship and this kills them emotionally. They tend to see society as being turned into a bunch of promiscuous degenerates, who value sex higher than everything, and are willing to forgo all dignity/morals to get it.
At the end of the day, the reality is that their lack of trust in women is born from these people not seeking the right traits in a partner. They go for girls who are "hot", rather than going "I'm sexually attracted to that girl, but if I'm going to give my time to her, I need to be sure that she also has strength of character". They've been convinced that hot girl A has "high value" and that purely because of their physical attractiveness, their opinion of the sex appeal of others is given credibility/merit to the point of being a universal fact and their personal opinion holds weight. They don't have the ability to say: hot girl A broke up with/cheated on me because either A) I wasn't a good partner or B) she doesn't have good self-esteem and that she values the validation of others more than a building a relationship with one person. Often they also have this same self esteem problem and so attempt to sleep around with these types of women (and not a suitable woman), for the women's validation. Like attracts like.

Women being sexually liberated, i.e., allowed to want and enjoy sex the same as men without social stigma, should have no impact on a man's ability to trust a woman in an intimate relationship. It doesn't remove a woman's ability to be monogamous if that's what the couple wants.

I have a brother whose claim is that he's a victim of the women's movement, and that's why he hasn't been able to work for the last 15+ years while he sits, alone, on his computer in my Mom's basement 24/7/365 at 38. I have always sought the correct wording for his ideology, as he's not exactly a full Incel. Vice introduced me to the 'manosphere' and it's lingo, and I am forever grateful for this.
I am always afraid that he's going to pick up guns and shoot his way to the end, but there's absolutely no one to contact that will put him on a Watch list. When I contacted the local police (Kenosha, Wisconsin) after one of his violent episodes where he inflicted self harm (and threatened to frame his sister for it), they did absolutely nothing to help get my Mom or myself safely away from him. Their response to his self inflicted injuries was that it wasn't a crime, and encouraged me to get as far away from him as possible.
Literally, every mass shooting I hold my breath and become frantic until I am certain that it hasn't occured in my own state. If it hasn't happened in my state, it's not him.
He's not a matter of If, but a matter of When.
There's absolutely no one in this country that gives a hoot about shutting down this kind of violence. He spends his days grooming the young men on 4chan, Discord and reddit, preparing them for violence against women.
For the record, my brother has physically injured my mother in his fits of rage with his fists. He has killed several of my pets over the course of my life. My mother is afraid to leave her home without her dog, because she doesn't believe that the dog will still be alive when she returns.
And there's literally no one who will either put him on a Watch list for weapons purchasing or protect my mother by getting him out of her home.
I cannot have a relationship with my own mother, because her close relationship with my brother could very well lead to deadly violence for me and my female partner.

I genuinely feel bad for these men because it’s clear that their parents dropped the ball somewhere. I also do agree we need to hold groups accountable for "direct links" to acts of crime, instead of trying to score political points. Regardless of political lines we need to address the real issues. By societal problem, look at the way everything is sexualized, not a group but just in general. We have allowed everything from ads, movies, music to social media to be sezualized. Looking at ourselves in the mirror and finding ways to improve should be the path forward.

while I do agree that there are some systems that are partial to women, there is absolutely nothing wrong with someone not wanting to give themselves to you. most of these men lack personality and basic social skills and therefore they get rejected. it's that simple.

Empathy. If theyre a friend, simply listen to them, try to genuinely understand what they are thinking and feeling, whats on their mind; build on the depth of relationship you have with them. Call to the good nature within them. If they are open to it, suggest counselling/psychotherapy with a qualified professional/agency that they click with. Also, recognise that we are in a time of ideological tension in our culture at the moment (left/right, feminine/masculine, progressivism/conservativism). BOTH sides have their dysfunctional ideas. Vice happens to be pretty radically left wing and progressive, they are about as far from the center as many of the right wing groups they criticise.
Dont assume just because someone is challenging a left wing/progressive idea or exploring conservative ideas that they are idiologically possessed (you may not be, but worth considering). With the issue of men/male roles in particular, Warren Farrel is worth a read.
But yeah, besides that, as a friend, the best thing you can do is genuinely and honestly listen and express your understanding. Thats my experience anyway, hope this helps 👍

I remember being a kid, being told by authority figures to "be a man". So then I remember as a kid going back to grade/middle school and actively looking for "weakness" in fellow classmates in their activities, demeanor, fashion, etc. Before I knew it, I was becoming a bully, without even understanding what my atitudes were resulting in. I couldn't even grasp what would happen to me if I took hold of that personality at the time, and it would take a few years and a few incidents for me to "calm down". I act myself and have been for years, removed from toxic masculinity, only because its really not in my nature. I usually just simply don't care about people being "weak" or whatever. Sometimes, toxic masculinity, xenophobia, sexism, and other ideas are TAUGHT. and, ENFORCED. A lot of people, mostly men, never ever grow out of this gymbro war hero global policeman mentality and go on with their lives using these ideologies as central pillars to their character.

He made sure that even though I experienced bullying it was very important to not become one myself. I experienced a fair bit of violence growing up, but never in the home. Violence was an event. It was always put into the context of disfunction and always to be avoided if possible. Dad was a big strong guy. Football player and wrestler. Smoke jumper, construction worker(generally "tough" guy). Also a conscientious objecter who was drafted and demonstrated against the Vietnam War. Peace was taught as a basic principle in my home. Even my grandfather who fought in the 2nd world War instilled peace in me. I just lucked into great examples of positive masculinity. I am extremely thankful for that.
