It was wonderful to see both you and Gary together, as I am an avid fan of both of you! Love the creativity and skill you both have and also the way you both explain so clearly what you are doing. Thank you very much
Hi Phil.... really beautiful piece of wood and you made a great job of turning it... lovely to see Gary with you... you could have been brothers!! ... great video...take care...All the best.....Andy
It's a lovely little bowl Phil - well worth the effort. But even better to see you and Papa Gary together - you have both given me so much inspiration over the past couple of years and I bet you don't realise how many people all around the World you have brought something special to!
That's beautiful Phil and glad that Gary stopped in that must have been a surprise! I like his channel also like you know I've been turning many years now and even and old dog like me learns new tricks from both of you I really enjoy watching you guy's with my morning coffee before going to my shop! Happy wood turnings to you both and your viewers!👍🇺🇸
Hey Phil, very nice. Good to see Gary too. The way I sand inside lips is to use a 1/2" dowl. Make two cuts in the dowl like an "X" about 2" deep. Then you can put up to 4 pieces of paper in folded like a "U". Use a drill of course. Whirl the lathe as slow as possible, needs to be 100 or less, or turn it by hand while sanding. It's sort of like a small Sand-O-Flex. Works for me. Take care, Larry
Leave it to you, Larry, to come up with an excellent way to accomplish a task! I do use a half inch dowel with one slit to do the same. But, I like your idea so much better! More paper, faster and better sanding. I will modify mine and put your idea to use. Thank you, buddy! Hope you are doing well!
We Are looking to your videos all days. My husband made wood tuning too, but now he is ill and so we love your beautifull bowls. Best regards from Mannheim/Germany
Nice bowl Phil.. agree it is great M & M bowl! I'm a follower of both your videos and Gary's and it was a treat to see you guys together AND see your faces! Most of your videos and Gary's give a birds eye view of the project and your abdomens! Rarely see your faces! Now I have a mental picture of both of you! keep up the projects. i really enjoy them.
You guys are both great turners and I really enjoy watching both of you turn. I have learned a lot from both of you. Glad you guys got together. Keep up the great videos! That is a beautiful bowl as well. Take care and happy turning. :)
Good afternoon, Phil. I think I started watching this video and something pulled me away. Happy to have found it again. This is the video where Gary, The PaPa 1947 stopped by to visit with you. I have been watching both of you for quite awhile and enjoy everything both of you bring to woodturning. Great to see you in the shop together. This bowl is beautiful. The inside sanding sure can be difficult to sand with this shape. Job well done. Blessings to both of you.
I love this shape, Ray, but don't turn it much because of that difficulty in sanding it, especially with an edge like this has. Glad you like it, too, thanks! 😊
Another way to sand pipe-like cavities is by coiling cloth-backed sandpaper around your slotted wooden sanding stick. Phenolic rod is an excellent choice for a slotted-rod sanding stick and is strong enough to put in a long slot for wider cloth-backed sandpaper for sanding where there are interrupted cuts. In the metalworking trades, usually, steel rods are used, but in woodworking can leave nasty marks if not careful. I like the attention you pay to safety and thinking out the process, priceless information and technique for everyone.
Enjoyed your video once again Phil, and Gary talking about the Olympic Nat. Park brought back some happy memories of the time, a few years ago, that my wife and I enjoyed up there. You live in such a beautiful state Phil, so natural just like your wood turnings. Keep up the great work. Best regards from S.Wales.
Glad you enjoyed it, Howard! I just found several comments in my RUclips Spam folder and this was one of them. Who knows why. Sorry for the delay! You make a good point and one I hadn't thought of! Maybe I am influenced by my surroundings and this beautiful state. I'm so glad you got to visit us! Take good care and keep happy! 😊
More evidence of your amazing talent, Phil. I really enjoyed this and did not for a second envy you sanding the inside of that bowl! You certainly did a great job on it my friend. Very cool seeing two faces on your video that seem to avoid being seen on your individual videos. Great job!! 😃😃😃👍👍😃
Thank you, Gord! I'm glad you know how hard it is to sand the inside of a bowl like this. Sometimes I think it's just me! LOL! It was fun hanging out with Gary for awhile. We'll all meet some time in the very distant future in woodturner heaven! 😊 Phil
My favorite two wood turners: Uncle Phil, and Papa Gary. I actually began watching, and then subscribed to his chañnel, after hearing you speak so highly of his work. Thanks again, Uncle Phil. 👍

Phil, you and Gary, are my two favorite turners on You-Tube. The bowl is very pretty. I bet your wife already has a place picked out for it. Could you use some sandpaper that is not so stiff? The sandpaper you used looks very stiff.
Thank you very much, Don! Not sure which sandpaper you are referring to. I did finally get it done and hope to not have to do that again, for awhile! 😊
I know someone who used to turn wood. He did all sorts of stuff but, one time, sanding a hollow form, he got 'got.' Shattered his hand bones, which required a total rebuild with steel pins.
