when i saw her turn on the kettle without any liquid, I was like "uh... you don't want to do that". The heating element in water boilers needs to be submerged in a liquid before you turn on the boiler...or else it short circuits and fries the electronic device.

When you realise that unless it’s a very posh kettle they need a minimal amount of water otherwise the circuit fries on it that’s how she broke 2 of them.
I can't imagine them doing this. Mainly because it wouldn't be exciting to watch someone cook with a lighter, since it's practically just the same as using a cooker to make food but on a much smaller, laborious scale. Also, a lighter isn't really a kitchen 'appliance' so doesn't really fit the theme of these videos that well.

Kettle was my go to during my hostel days..my freshmen year began with just maggie( instant noodles) but by the end of the degree we were able to make masala potato and szechuan fried rice! 😆
During our internship somewhere, the dorm our professor decided to rent us out in didn’t allow us to use or bring in anything to cook with. The only thing we could use was the electric kettle and I remember struggling😂😂
I like making ramen with a kettle. Just put your noodles with the seasoning packet in a bowl or cup and pour the boiling water over it and let them cook. It's really good and I like them better than on the stove top
I just understand why they had to start doing it this way and I’m totally still watching every episode, but it isn’t the same without having other people come on and taste test without knowing what what used to cook it. 😭 I hope we can get back to that soon. 💜

I remember when I was in hostel, I started cooking in kettle and I made so many dishes like pasta, panner bhurji, paneer masala, idli, alu gobi, and even pancakes which led me to become a chef and I also came on reality tv shows and won awads from eminent chefs like Ranveer Brar and Harpal Sokhi. Thankyou kettle you changed my life😍

I wonder what dessert options would have done well with the kettle. I appreciate that she probably picks something more difficult to make the finished video more interesting than just "boil stuff" but attempting to toast was a bit silly. I wonder if it would have been possible to rig up a double boiler for chocolate? Or make a slightly more unusual dessert that is boiled, like clootie dumpling, or sweet pierogis.
I wonder if dropping a metal plate or small metal grill inside the kettle along with some water, then taking it out swiftly with a pair of tongs and wiping it dry before pressing it against the cake could have done the trick for the toasting of the cake
The trick to keep the kettle working /boil is to leave the lid open (the steam and pressure makes the kettle stop working, just like the steam makes those kettles scream when put them on the stove to boil water )..coming from a student who used to cook all sorts of late night dinners in her kettles.
