- A short test ride to see if the electrical gremlins were still on board - and they were. A farmer moving his sheep gave rise to a change of plan, so we paused to take a look at a view not normally seen when riding along that way, and may well explore it soon. Next up, the engine died, but restarted straight away with the lights switched off, before we finished off with a few miles with the old Cub 'on the boil', but still not flat out!
Your country side is absolutely beautiful! 👍😎
Joe Lucas lives on.. Thanks for the weekend ride.
Aha, I knew it was Bantam Hill down the way 👍👌
Thought Cub pulled well , Lights off Better after LOVE a go
Many moons back, the C15 I borrowed to my test take on (and pass) did something similar. Worked for a couple of miles with lights on, faltered turn lights off worked fine. Bit of a pain at night as it is 35 miles from York to lower Wensleydale. Alternator was only working on 4 coils. enough to run and charge with lights off, not enough for sustained night time use. My '51 A10 and Busmar Astral chassis with tin bath would not have amused the tester.
There's no place like home when you have a bike that you can't trust.
It wasn't 'the' sheepdog was it? Not loose battery connections?
Another bike builder that I watch is Paul Brodie. He's a Canadian machinist and has a Tiger Cub build that you might be interested in. www.youtube.com/@paulbrodie
My approach might me to zip-tie an ammeter to it on a temporary circuit. It would rule in or out the charging system. Your idea of a thorough check down of the connections and components is likely a good one in any event.
Just a thought, is the battery taking the charge? A single duff cell in a good looking battery can give very odd faults.
Thanks - I will check on that.
