Triumph Tiger Cub test ride and first trial of new open faced helmet.

- I was at a point where I felt the Tiger Cub [not one of mine] was up to a short test ride, where it performed quite well, but had a slight misfire, some clutch slip and something rattling at the front end, all of which might be improved upon, I hope.
I also wanted to try my new open face helmet, to see how it worked if I spoke during a ride while filming, compared with the full face I have usually worn, and to see if it created any wind noise - the early signs look promising.
The first bike I ever rode.
I was about twelve, and a lad a few years older owned one. He let me sit on the front saddle and leaned over me to help work the clutch and throttle.
From that day, some fifty-three years ago, until arthritis in my spine stopped me from riding altogether just a few years ago, I was in the saddle non-stop.
I lived and breathed bikes through my teens and continued through till my late adult life.
Now, at sixty-five, I don't regret a single second of it.
All, thanks to this bike.
Nice. I noticed the ammeter occasionally flicking to discharge. May be linked to the misfire.
That was great! I think the ability to talk about what is going on with the bike and the scenery you are passing through really makes it more interesting. I switched back to an open face helmet about 15 years ago and I find it a lot better; improved visibility and being able to hear things better. I was recently given three 250 BSAs, a 68 and 70 B25 and a 60 C15. And I already had a 71 B25SS. Your videos are inspiring me to get one of these on the road!
Thank you!
Tiger Cub -- the gift that keeps on giving.
The gift that keeps on stopping😢😢😢
Looks fantastic.
Hi Paul I think the sound is better maybe the full face helmet muted it a bit.. great ride in poor conditions..
Perfect bike for the roads you ride.
Yes indeed!
A little more mechanical noise than the Cubs you usually ride. Promising results, so far, though.
I must say you have chosen a chilly time to go open face. However the audio is very clear from both you and the bike. Back in 1964 my first helmet, may have been a "Cromwell", was pudding basin style with a soft and very snug leather curtain / chin strap. I painted it to look like Derek Minter's helmet and thought I looked ace. My brother demolished that vision saying I looked more like George Formby. When I later upgraded to a "jet pilot" style I found it really drafty and noisy and I missed the comfort of the 'Cromwell'. Nice video, super views of the countryside and although it's a pretty little bike, it doesn't sound as nice as yours. Yet.
I have found boyer to be fussy about voltage. Missfire? I wish we had lanes like this in western canada. Lived and rode in uk in the sixties miss those roads
Yeah, I live in Toronto and a little bike in heavy traffic, which is 24/7 around here, is scary.
A very pretty little bike. The sound quality is much improved both engine and voice wise. How did you find the open faced lid? I converted to one about 10 years ago and really like it.👍🏻
I used open faced helmets for years, in all weathers and distances, only becoming a 'softie' in the mid eighties. I kept an open face as well, but it wasn't comfortable. Recently, I remembered it being easier to look back over my shoulders with an open face, and I don't travel as far or as fast these days. Add to that the poor sound quality from a full face if I try to comment while riding, and an open face just had to be tried again. That was my first trip in it and it was very comfortable.
@@paulhenshaw4514 Absolutely agree👍🏻
Very cool tiny road. I would love this kind of ride.
It keeps on stopping
Meant to add my ammeter was the issue on my T100SS with intermittent misfire, connected the wires straight across no more issues.
I've been looking for a new open face helmet to replace my cheap one I've had for years. I like a peak for when the sun is low - the dark vizor is all very well but in shady conditions and a low sun I find it hard to see hazards coming up with the dark vizor down. Be interested to see a review for your Shoei.
Heard you loud and clear, which is an improvement. I use an AGV Orbyt myself (like channelling a Princess Leia hairdo), with the visor up 99% of the time. Its comfortable to wear with glassesThe cub seems like a very neat and willing bike. Knowing you, I think you'll find the source of the misfire in no time. I thought it reduced after a while, maybe it just needs to be used? Anyway, its a very attractive Cub.
With the clarity bestowed by the helmet change, Bonzo will easily be able to hear the 'instruction'. Sodding creature still seems to need a short sharp shock.
Absolutely lovely!
Much better audio helmet makes a difference.
What a little beauty!!!!
Nice bike and ride. Thanks !
It was probably me, but I am sure I could hear some clutch slip when you were following the red car at the begining of the ride. Sure sounds willing though, quite impressive I thought. I've had two C15's in my time, 1964/5. Do you think the Tiger Cub is quicker, when both are in good condition. the 1st one I had sounded like ball bearings in a biscuit tin, but the second was brand new and I loved it to bits. That was a most enjoyable ride, apart from the hound of the Baskervilles :)
Excellent as usual Paul , Does that factory owner know its against health n safety to let a dog run loose around the premises ?? Perhaps a word in his "Shellike" ????
Ah - the dog. I am on good terms with the owner there and he understands that if I run the dog over, it will not be deliberate and that there's a good chance the dog will come second. He was run over by a car as a puppy - you think he might learn, but no. My biggest worry is when he chases me going 'out', a vehicle might come towards us and choose to hit me rather than the dog. I trusted the sheepdog on Bantam Hill and enjoyed it when he came along for a short run, but this one is a bit clumsy and unpredictable.
Miss fire's when the Amp meter needle is jumping up and down bad connection somewhere.
Lovely bike
great!!
lots more coherent paul, i`ve always used open faced hat on the cub,
its perfect, (but i would`nt use it on me trident again,)that cub is nice,
definitely been tango`d 😂😅😎
Enjoyed the ride/vid. What helmet did you get?
Thanks, the helmet is a Shoei, it will no doubt make a cameo appearance at some point soon!
Better with the openface. How was your chin freezing up?
Noticed the ammeter wasn't showing a great charge rate🤔
Audio was much better with the open face helmet.
Tiger cubs, you could pick up a half decent one for twenty quid in the early sixties, happy days.
Yes - amazing difference in prices. In 1970, I got a 1966 BSA c15 non runner for £6. It was lying in a garden with long grass growing through it. It on;y needed a quick service. The points were not opening. I also got a WD, KHAKI green 1939 M20 dispatch rider's bike for £15 in 1972. I wish I had them now, but I sold them fifty some years ago.
Nice even beautiful cub, nacelle and speedo meter, seat of 1961 and motor of 65 cub, to much noise of rockers and cam followers.
That Cub is not one of mine, I just did some work on it. It is a bit clattery, but the camera makes things sound worse than in real life.
@@paulhenshaw4514 Yes indeed but it seems some more noise, although cub is very beautiful neat and clean
Motor have changed sound
I always do on a bigger bike but bigger bike can slow down or go faster. LOL
Mm 🤔misfire, clutch slip…it’s not a happy ‘bunny’…sorry ‘cub’ 😢
Yes, I got it running, but there is more to do ...
Engine sounds like it has quite a rattle. Does it feel like power is ok?
It has decent power, but I will probably check the tappets.
Great little cub Paul. I’m sure it will be at its best when your done with it.
What would you say is a comfortable max cruising speed for a standard cub? My 63 T20 seems happy at 45-50.
Hi Mick, I would say 50 no problem, except for my Trials Cub replica, which is about 45 mph. My Sports Cub replica can cruise at 60 +, no problem and when I was lighter, it could sniff 80 mph flat out in favourable conditions!
@@paulhenshaw4514 Thanks Paul. Moses Sandals! 80 on a Cub? She must have been singing at that speed!!!!
Bless you and the family.
By the way. The audio and your voice was much clearer with the open face.
They always sound rattly
Where’s the side panels
Who knows ...
