Wow! I wouldn't have the first idea of when I opened my bank account, it's so long ago. The bank should know though! I've (hopefully just sorted out my energy company EDF who, after 4 years of paying by direct debit, always being up to date with my account, etc.direct debited almost £2000 out of my account leaving me overdrawn because their new computer system wanted to charge me for a previous tenant(s) energy usage. My bank though (Natwest) has been very helpful in their support and made sure I got refunded quickly. Mind you if I'd had to go into a branch I would have had to drive 20 miles because of branch closures.. Yet another great rant Paul, thanks!
The older we get the more complicated life becomes , then the panic sets in and we start to sweat . Give me the good old days back when life was slower and apps weren't invented 😂
I have had to deal with numpties like that, had to refund a Suzuki GT380 rear light lens because the buyer said it was 'cracked'. It wasn't cracked but had a barely visible manufacturing flaw which you could only see if you held it up to bright light! Trouble is these idiots expect 'perfect' from a 50 year old part. Don't even get me started on banks!
Excellent rant. The customer service provided by banks is dreadful. I have had an account with HSBC since 1967 when it was the Midland Bank. We were a household of 11 and all banked at the same branch the staff of which who knew all of us really well and were extremely helpful. Now I am just a number and if I leave them, I just add a tiny amount to one month's churn and no one notices or cares. If I was asked when I had opened my account, I would not have a clue as the number was changed by them about 30ish years ago.
I've had an account at my bank for 50 years. Some years ago, at their suggestion, I changed the account from one type to another, but it still had the same account number. When I retired, I decided to set up internet banking, so I wouldn't have to visit the branch regularly. I was asked when I opened the account, and told them the original year, but that wasn't good enough, I had to know when I changed to the new one. In the end, despite visiting the branch weekly for 45 years, being known to the counter staff, and having all my records on file there, I had to bring photo and address ID as if I was a new customer. Branch is closed now, nearest is in next town, 10 miles away (for now).
Lloyds shut down my Local Branch without telling it's account holders that it was going to so, and shifted my account to another branch without informing me .....
The system is utter rubbish (polite version). The number of passwords and one-time codes required to use your own money to pay your own credit card balance would be enough to make Bletchley Park wince. Good rant!
Likely the banks are still on the hook should something go wrong so you can hardly blame them. Remember when you were young and tried to buy anything not within cycling distance?
Cash is best Just don't try putting it into a bank Or try buying a car with it or booking a hotel etc etc I'd go back to cash for everything any day personally
Paul, I can sympathize with you completely. I bank with Lloyds and have done since 1998. They have shut my local branch so I had to go 15miles out to my next nearest branch, which they closed last year, now I have to travel 26 miles to my next nearest branch which is closing next year! they say that I can do everything online now. So how do you pay a load of coins in to your account online?? They say I can use the app, I don't have a smartphone! They say well, you can pay them in at a post office. I have tried 4 different post offices and all of them say no, we don't want all that change. Best to bank with "Huntley and Palmer" under the bed!!
If you change your mind I am looking at replacing the tank on my w650, I'd be cutting it about to suit so I don't care about the OEM mounts etc. Happy to cross your palm with silver if you do want to let it go. I'd really like it as the original tank has the stitch welded seams which I really don't like. Pm me, I won't mess you about.
You're not alone. I'm in a similar position, a morning on the 'phone to three different people and a visit to the bank still can't remedy the simple problem, and it's also HSBC.
Wow Paul, Words fail me. Speaking of eBay and Petrol Tanks, I was ripped off by an Indian tank maker who made me a tank, that doesn't fit my bike to the tune of £200. It was out by a Mile, and he said that he was happy to refund me as long as I sent it back at my own cost, which was going to cost me £133 tracked all the way to India. Furthermore, he wanted me to put it down as a value of 30$ or less. (Something very dodgy there) When I got home from the Post office, I was then landed with a £60 customs bill, on top of the £ 200 that I had paid for the tank. I have no idea why he wanted it back, because it wouldn't fit what it was intended for, and as I refused to pay to send something back at my cost, for something thats not as described- I lost my case, with PayPal. To add insult to injury, he is still advertising the same tanks now, and using a picture if MY motorcycle, with the original tank fitted.. no doubt to say, that they do fit, as the one that he sold me was painted exactly the same colour as the one on my bike. It was supplied by ROYAL CHOPPERS, and I hope that people remember that name, so they don't get ripped off too, if they want a Royal Enfield Bullet Petrol Tank.. (He's also using another sellers name too, for the same tank) There will be a video soon of it getting smashed up on my youtube channel, when I get the time to do it. Good luck with the Bank, Paul. All the best, Gary ☝
Paul, hope you get this settled soon. Some passing comments, not wanting to start a controversy...I'm in the USA and have had banking experiences with several US banks. Most were good, some better than others. A few years ago, I opened an account with a bank from England. I had very poor experiences with them, I recently closed my account there. Perhaps banking differs from country to country...this is my only experience with non US bank. Best to you...
I wouldn't have a clue if they asked that. I recently had to change my phone number and it was a nightmare, tried updating it and they kept saying they had sent me a code to my old no, which i had no access to. Doh! Pat w
Research Free Banking , social credit scores , digital ID's , Digital Currency... all in the pipeline. Whereas Bank Bail ins have been a thing since 2014, with "money" being deposited being officially the banks and not yours. Metal assets in your own possession will buffer you from the imminent crash of fiat currencies.

Don't start me on HSBC phone them you get India and you can't understand a word say again pardon what's that hopeless I understand completely 👍 hope it's sorted
As you gave all those details to (most likely) an anonymous Asian questioner did it cross your mind that it was just the personal information a scammer would need to empty your account?
Unfortunately, less is more sometimes. Nerves are beyond price.

As you speak, I'm in the shed fixing (hopefully) the very same tank, 72 triumph..good rant Paul, nobody does it better.
Thank you!

Paul, perhaps Richard the third would be more apt.
Good point!

Well, I phoned the number on my bank card - they didn't call me, so hopefully not ...
