What happened to this channel? Come back, dude.
Yeh man, weird he's just disappeared. I miss these vids.
I just found this channel today and I’m kind of sad that he hasn’t uploaded within a year
4 months ago in a (now deleted) comment he said that he's doing well, but he's busy and he'll upload again eventually.
Imagine having 123 000 subscribers and you just drop the ball.
He needs to come back
Andreas Prodromou's family should definitely be honored for his efforts.
Everybody on that plan was dead by 10:00am except for Andreas. Why did he not enter the cockpit til impact. I assume flight attendants have a way to enter the cockpit ?
@@daafukulookinat4965 No one was aware that the cabin was depressurized until people started loosing consciousness, and acute hypoxia affects people differently. Andreas could have been close to one of the portable masks at the time and barely managed to get it on.
The honest truth is that we will never know how he got to a mask or why it took so long for him to get to the cockpit. What we do know for certain is that he entered the security code for the cockpit door, sent 6 MAYDAY calls (but on the wrong frequency, he didn't know), and attempted as best he could with the pilot training he had to save the flight.
@@MarkiusFox Mark, you just regurgitated what I said
I read in another version of this that he was a scuba diver and perhaps was very aware of hypoxia symptoms which would explain why he was the only one who was able to figure out to get a better oxygen supply in time.
@@daafukulookinat4965 You worded it as a question. If you do not want a question answered, then you should be mindful of your punctuation.
All of those people died because of a switch that no one noticed, such a shame. RIP. Thank you for posting.
imagine being the one dude who had enough sense to use a portable oxygen tank, and seeing everyone dead around you including the pilots.
@TheWatanna
Why wasn't that switch red tagged when the maintenance crew worked on the plane. This way if they would have forgotten to return the switch to auto the pilots would have immediately noticed this issue.
no it is because of catastrophically dumb designers who failed to have a warning with the spoken words of what the problem is or a alarm light with the problem WRITTEN on it. unbelievable how idiots get to design big aircraft
i dont udnerstand how something like this is even possible. why is there no system for these things???
@@nw6070 you can’t do it on every single switch
Apparently Andreas knew enough to turn the plane with the engines flamed out away from Athens. He was able to point it away so as not to crash into the City and kill more people. He truly is a hero.
Do you have a source for this?
@@Overhemd wikipedia lol
Just imagine that you're the only one alive on board the plane and seeing the corpses of the other 120 people while not being able to stop the plane from crashing, truly horrific.
Thank you for making this, X-Pilot. :)
What do you mean by corpses?
Corpses as in the unconscious husk of the once passenger
Those people on board werent dead, just unconscious. Their cause of death was the impact of the plane hitting ground. In the offical report from the AAIASB it is stated that every person on board had heart function till the point of impact.
I quote :
"All passenger and cabin crew samples tested negative for carbon monoxide and volatile poisons. The forensic report concluded that the aircraft occupants had heart function during the impact. The report noted that this did not necessarily imply that they were alert."
@@Soulise1o1 but lack of oxygen badly damaged their brain, isn't it?
@@tranceyy generally yes, but you have to remember that brain damage only occurs when your brain is almost completely stripped of oxygen. At 8,800m the air still contains about 1/3 the amount of oxygen one would have at a normal altitude.
While this is certainly enough to lose consciousness for untrained people, it is not enough to cause permanent brain damage in that period of time.
For example there are people who attempt to climb Mount Everest without oxygen, and those people don't suffer permanent damage.
There is a very good episode of Air Crash Investigation about this disaster. In that episode it reveals that the only reason Andreas took this flight (which he was not scheduled to be on) was because his girlfriend was also on the flight.
His father was also in the Greek military (or him I can't remember) and they both enjoyed activities such as diving and mountain climbing which may have explained how he was able to survive on low altitude.
It took him a long time to gain acsess to the cockpit because the door was locked. It will not be known if he randomly guessed the code or more likely accessed the code from the senior flight attendant.
Sadly however even if he had brought the plane down successfully almost all would have suffered critical brain damage due to the length of time at high altitude with little oxygen.
Dude was a real life, Die Hard action movie protagonist who didn't have enough luck
With today's technology, it seems to me that ALL critical warnings should be spoken.
Like "Sink rate! Sink rate! Pull up!" There should be one that says "Pressure! Pressure! Descend now! Descend now!"
Good idea
The oxygen masks dropped, meaning some sensor knew that there was low O2. This crash was preventable on so many levels
Attendant: "Excuse me captain, but the passenger oxygen masks have dropped"
Pilot: "Huh, ain't that the weirdest thing..."
@@TheSecondVersion By the time they dropped everyone probably had the mental state of a drunk 5 year old. Plane was decompressed from the moment it took off.
At that altitude, it takes literal seconds to lose consciousness.
This comment section really proves how ignorant you guys are about airplanes and how aviation works
God, the fear that flight attendant must have experienced. Great video!
He was in the military, he had it covered and was a hero.
@@micheypatsa What exactly did the flight attendant do that made him a hero? He did what anyone of us would've done had we regained ourselves. His actions of attempting to save the plane were heroic but unfortunately unsuccessful.
@@thomasdaniels6824 Oh fuck off, youd have pussied out and screamed for mommy like most of us.

Does anyone know what happened to him
@@agalvao14 He said in a comment that he's busy but he'll return to RUclips eventually
He back
Jeeeez, a lot of things went wrong on this one.
Really glad to see you uploading again , Xpilot!
The pilot didn't do his preflight checklist correctly. That would have solved everything. It is soley his fault for not doing that specifically. I was in the military for years, and a 18 year old just out of boot camp can complete any checklist you give him/her as long as they know what each item on the checklist is.
I did a lot of research on this once as the whole thing was very troubling and interesting. The saddest part for me is that if Andreas would have landed the plane he would saved all those lives. However the effects of hypoxia means everyone would have suffered irreparable brain damage. For me that's just such a stranger fate than death, all those families getting a live corpse instead of a dead one. I think that would have made the grievance process far worse and prolonged than it had it be. Very very sad story this one.
Oh yeah. In law school we covered one case of a woman who underwent a routine gall bladder surgery, but her surgeons incorrectly intubated her airway, so her brain was oxygen depleted for several minutes. The doctors didn't even realize anything was wrong until someone noticed her fingernails were turning blue. She was left in a vegetative state.
What was extra haunting was that the litigation took *20 years* before it was finally settled by the Supreme Court. So that entire time, her grieving family incurred expenses to keep her brain-dead body alive.
Before Allec Joshua Ibay and The Flight Channel, you were my entrance to aviation knowledge. Hope you are great, new videos are very much missed.
haunting accident. so many lives lost due to one small switch.
Andreas, you are a smart, brave hero.
Great job, XPilot. Thanks for sharing.

When working, details are very important, no matter how small or unimportant it may seem. I will remember this while working. RIP😥. Thank you for sharing.
I love these, its always intriguing to me to watch these and know the technicalities in every flight and what happened and how it has affected flight today. I really love your stuff and you should keep doing what you are doing. :)
I love your videos, I hope all is well & you upload in future. If not, thank you for the work you put into the channel.
i’m so happy you uploaded! i feel like i’ve watched every video since i’ve discovered this channel & always waiting for more!
Seems like so many mkstakes piled up from the engineers, pilots and the aircraft manafacturers. Why there wouldnt be an auto drop for the pilot masks, or a special warning light for cabin depressurization is crazy. Very sad story
Yeah how could one switch be able to kill the entire crew and passengers without anyone being able to figure it out. Some bad design
X Pilot also did a video on a similar incident, the 1999 South Dakota Learjet Crash. The pilots passed out in the middle of running through a troubleshooting checklist. A list that, oddly enough, did NOT instruct the pilots to put on their oxygen masks as Step 1.
@@DominikoPL But why do they even need to rely on a warning light and then a crew response? If the sensors have detected that the cabin isn't pressurised at a dangerous altitude, then surely, surely it should be the case that cabin pressurisation is automatically activated? And why don't worded warnings show up on a digital screen indicating exactly what the warning is, like "low cabin pressure", etc.
@@DominikoPL Thank you for your time in responding. Well, I sure hope that modern aircrafts make it much easier to identify faults or improper settings, because this is the only one of these air emergency recreation videos I've seen so far that truly had me concerned about flying. It seemed like it should have been such an obvious thing for the crew to identify.
Their masks did drop, they just didn't understand why so didn't put them on. They missed the pressurization switch being set to manual, 3 times during their checklists. So they must not have ran through their checklists or missed the difference between manual and auto.
very excellent video. im also really happy you brought back the whole real-time flying part of the video. you're an excellent person doing an excellent job
It’s really a interesting story on what happened to Helios airways that day, and btw x pilot I love ur videos man I must say they make me feel deep into what the situation is. Keep up the good work

What a tragedy. Feel so bad for the passengers and crew. Thank you for sharing!
I’ve watched every video already man I misss you my favourite RUclips channel
I can't imagine being the engineer who left that switch on manual! That being said, there must be hundreds of switches in the cockpit, and having worked in a plant production environment things get confusing real fast, and that's without the hypoxia making it impossible to think clearly.
Cameron Sours Wouldn’t that be the first thing to check out if the cabin pressure is normal once the aircraft reaches a certain altitude? I can’t believe two pilots did not once bother to ensure this.
@Cameron Sours
There should be a red tag placed on that control when the maintenance crew changed the setting from normal/auto. That way if they forgot the pilots would have known immediately that something wasn't right with the tag staring your right in the face. Much like lockout tags are used in manufacturing plants.
I commented here over a year ago wondering of your whereabouts, I have watched every one of your videos and re watching them. I hope you come back eventually I miss you so much xpilot :(
Wow xpilot is still alive!
yo make these kinda videos every weekend or everyday. it is very entertaining also very informative dude
This Channel is awesome! How do you not have millions of subscribers :D I just subscribed anyways and am on a binge of your videos haha, keep it up!
I've watched every single video on this channel... I understand the need for XPilot to move on but man I loved these vids.
This is what I'm always saying. There is no such thing as perfection in aviation. Plane crashes will continue to happen. Human error will always be a problem. They get tired, mad, hurried, forgetful, lazy, neglectful ... it will never end. Whenever humans are involved, failure is just around the corner.

This was just like that one flight you did with the famous golfer from orlando to Huston
RIP Payne Stewart

This one is particularly sad. Only one conscious person aboard the plane, who took the controls to try and save everyone on board but he couldn't because it ran out of fuel. The amount of grief and guilt that probably caused, on top of the fear of his own impending death, is just unimaginable how tough it had to be to deal with all of that. Andreas Prodromou is still a hero in my book.
TRAGIC...RIP ALL🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
It’s wild how truly easy it is for a plane to go down. One flip of a switch and 120+ folks gone. Crazy man.
hey x pilot. will u gonna use the new flight simulator when its out?
Would be nice to see a video on the SSJ-100 crash in Moscow last year. It has everything: weather issues, technical faults and of course pilot error.
is it possible that we could get a more readable font for the subtitles? tall condensed fonts are usually harder to read
No other accident stories left me as sad as I'm now after watching this video.
Where is this man been for two years he was the best content Creator I know
1:38 I have a question. Is it supposed to say "unexpected" here? I don't get why an expected alarm would confuse the pilots. Thanks!
*Just one more reason to use your best judgement and if you believe there is a significant question about the safety of your flight get up and make sure you let the cockpit crew know, what you have observed and make sure they understand the seriousness of it*
Speak up to the flight attendants and if they don't respond appropriately walk to the cockpit and in a calm but firm voice let them know and make sure they acknowledge your alarm about the issue.* If you get no resolution and you are still concerned call the airport area emergency services number and ask for the tower and let them know of your serious concern.
I like how calling the operation center for when my plane isnt working is pretty much the same procedure as when I need to call my internet company as to why my internet isnt working.
