Warning lights do not mean you have to stop immediately, even if it was the oil light. Unless his engine had seized maybe he could have moved to the hard shoulder.
He also made an earlier reference to stopping when he saw the light. No attempt is evident that he tried to cross to the hard shoulder. Looks like he just stopped.

If you're given a driving ban due to drink or drug then to be able to get a licence again you should have to do extensive medical tests at your own expense prior to being allowed to re-apply.
I think all drink drivers should be given a mandatory prison sentence starting from 2 weeks upto several months, depending on the amount of alcohol over the limit.
If I recall correctly, he got a 6 month sentence, but it was suspended for 18 months - he wouldn’t go inside unless he failed to attend a mandatory alcohol rehabilitation program.

More of an example of how dangerous dumb drivers are. In 40 years of driving I've experienced break downs and punctures on the motorway and have always managed to either pull onto the hard shoulder, safety zone or at least pull as far off the lane as I could. As soon as you sense your car has a problem you get into lane 1 ready to pull off, you don't carry on driving in lane 2 waiting for the car to breakdown.

s4 road traffic act prevents this loophole. It makes it an offence to drive a vehicle under the influence of any amount of alcohol in a careless manner. So after one beer you may be under but if you’re driving is careless you’re committing an offence.

Smart motorway works, when done correctly. The Video shows how not a smart motorway should be. And sadly UK have something to learn from the Americans, mainly from Golden Gate Bridge, where they have a barrier that can change position by the help of a special truck, thus changing what lane is open and preventing cars to cross the road.
With that lorry fire the police should at least tell one of the lorry drivers stuck and to pass it on, that they should put it on break if they need to, I hated being stuck and running out of driving time

in 2020 whilst in the town of four marks,hampshire the police see me removing a 4-5 foot object from the main road in front of my vehicle as i go back to my vehicle(thats parked in the road with its hazard lights on)there's as i just mentioned a police car parked directly behind me from that point on i knew i was'nt going to be treated fairly i'm then followed for another 2 miles or so by this time i was half way through the village of chawton before the blue lights are activated and i'm stopped though what for is beyond me as i had'nt committed any offence i'm then practically accused of wrong-doing i was also told by an officer that by law they could'nt have stopped me sooner.i'm then told i'm going to be breathalysed having brought the breathalyser over to me the officer tells me that the device is faulty and does'nt work and that another breathalyser will have to be brought out to the scene by this point my patience is beginning to fray a few minutes later a police vehicle with a new device arrives at the scene and i'm breathalysed when i had'nt been drinking it was negative i then get back in my vehicle an leave the scene in a fury making my feelings known to the three officers present even now 5 years after it happened i'd like to know how it was------- ever lawful for the police to do this to me-----------because i' don't see how....apparently from a legal postion i've discovered that after being told by the police officer that the breathalyser was faulty/did'nt work i would not have been committing any offence----by leaving the scene either by walking away or getting back in my vehicle and driving off----so it appears that the law was on my side............

I know this is old... but if that police woman said she has run out of patience for those who didn't have their seat belt on... means it time she gave up being a cop. A cop is not the judge jury and executioner... they are out there to help people in time of need, and that includes people who made bad and silly mistakes.
