Yeah that woulda been hella boring and feel out of place, despite the idea of Glaggie being in the picture. Daryls whole character was essentially an independent lone wolf, even within the group. He had a heart, he was emotional, and he cared for his people, but the idea of him in a relationship is very odd. Even the relationship with Leah felt weird

One could argue that because Glenn wouldn't have an emotional outburst after Negan threatened to kill Maggie ('I should just put you out of your misery right now'), he would have lived through the lineup. Its possible that Daryl would have had two outbursts, one which Negan would have forgiven and then the second one being the punch resulting in a second death. Glenn in the context of the original scene(in the show following how it was set up) was killed as a means of breaking the group further emotionally due to Glenn showing care for Maggie once she was threatened. I believe the next logical kill would be Daryl, 'guts' aside, I don't think Negan would have taken anymore risks with him after 2 outbursts. That or Maggie herself.
