In 1997 Ricky Simmonds and Steve Jones formed the vocal trance act "The Space Brothers". The first release was the track "Shine", which became a big success straight away. After that one, they released more singles, such as "Legacy (Show Me Love)", "Forgiven (I Feel Your Love)", "Heaven Will Come", "Everywhere I Go" and many others.
In this week's vlog you'll hear the story behind The Space Brothers project, as told by Ricky & Steve. You will get to know the great story about how they came up with the name for the act, Ricky reveals how he got inspired to write the lyrics for "Shine", you will learn more about how they choose which sound to associate with which alias and a lot more!
Plus Ricky & Steve tell us more as well, about Audiojelly.com, the digital dance download portal which they launched back in the year 2004.
Also make sure to check out my other interviews with the guys, in which we discuss 2 of their other big classics;

I've always thought Heaven will come is my favourite, but I also like The Space Brothers - This Is Love (Sagitaire mix) as its only on the DMC label, cost me a fortune and is a great tune
"Legacy" because of those beautiful, haunting vocals.
Shine Planet Heaven Remix
shine is perhaps the better one, but legacy is my favourite...maybe because nice memories, which it always brings to me
Everywhere I go - in the PVD Dub Version, but of course the original of Shine is still outstanding and the best (but I didnt know that it was by them ;-))
Shine and forgiven I still get hairs and shivers through my body when I hear these classics tunes 👌 🙌 🎶 Bonkers in hope Street glasgow downstairs absolutely rocked this tuneage 👍
All the SB stuff have a really strong hook in,Shine being no exception,it comes in under the chorus.Absolutely brilliant tune.
The vocals are outstanding aswell.
I also get the goosebumps,I've been overdosing on SB nostalgia for the last hour!
M8 Floozys and Bonkers 1996/1997 I remember this hole in one, bedrock (for what you dream of) porn kings, nylon moon, techno cat (tom wilson) six by six (tall paul) amongst a few more, I was there mate 🫡
@@robertgemmell1485remember everyone of them was my era and wouldnt change it gor the world matey tunes 👌
These interviews just get better and better.
Mark Lewis thank you so much!!!
True.
Astonishing music producers with astonishing singers and such a good taste sound ! It's so sad that the singer, Erin Lordan, from the song “For a Lifetime“ died of cancer in 2005 with the age of 41. God bless her. It's one of my favourite songs of “Interpretations“ and one of the best songs of its genre. Chapeau !
Your spirit is shining, surrounded by love.
❤ RIP Steve Porter 1977-2022 ❤
Is that a friend of yours? I just looked up DJ Steve Porter and he’s still alive.
There is indeed a DJ named Steve Porter and he is still alive!
The Steve Porter in my post is my younger bro 😢
@@catflappo Oh man, I’m so sorry 😔 Happy to see you showing love for him to this day. Stay strong ❤
These guys are behind so many classic tracks, mind is blown. They were behind "ascension - someone" too? What a banger that is.
Lustral - everytime is another belter, though I have to say it's the Nalin & Kane mix that I prefer. Classic.
chakra home is another belter
This was one of the first trance records I ever bought... still sounds amazing today too!!
All the SB tunes have a very strong hook in them,Shine is no exception,it comes in with the chorus, brilliant tune!
I still play this track. One of my favorite tracks from these guys. They do act like brothers, such characters 😆.
And now to go back and listen to it.
Thanks for saving the best for last Twan. ☺️🔊Boom!!
Thanks so much!!!! Very happy with the answers they gave, great stories!!
muzikxpress absolutely, I hope these artists start getting more serious about digging memory lane like these two cool people. So much fun watching them.

An incredibly beautiful piece of music ❤
These guys are geniuses!
I love these guys - they’re so interesting. Especially nice to hear of the origins of certain songs that were founded in real-life emotional experiences. Thanks for another great interview Twan and Happy Christmas.
BDT Trance thank you!!
Forgiven es my favorite track. Absolute amazing. Best Regards from Barcelona
Same here, although I also love Shine.Ive just been watching Joanna Law performing Forgiven.❤❤❤
This is one of my favourite ever trance tracks. It reminds me of my university days. I first heard it on an Oakenfold Essential Mix on Radio One. Happy times!
The trance channeler was bang on with her messages! Their music has definitely made an impact in people's lives. Love this song so much. It's one of the tracks that really captures the very best trance sound of the 90s and has aged so well! Both these guys are so interesting to listen to Very good interview! 👍
Andrew Bayley Thank you so much!!
Late 90s was the golden era of trance the best time of all. Amazing stuff.
30 years later and i still listen to and love their tracks.. the vocals and synths are soooooo good.
Just found this! Really interesting, the story behind these guys and the tunes was great to hear. Loved these tunes, me and my friend played space brothers to death! Never new they were chakra too ! Bought the cd singles of both ! Thanks
@@peterdunn2704 glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching!

I know right? Such great people and lots of amazing stories too!
Everytime. Wow shine. Amazing forgive. L❤.home is one of the best trance tracks ever but lustral will be my send off every time you close your eyes 💟
Just watched 3 of your interviews in a row now - this is absolutely fascinating stuff, from musicians I've loved for decades. Incredible channel!
Thank you Ben! Happy binge watching 😂 Working on more names for future interviews, fingers crossed!
I saw these guys live at Gatecrashers 25th anniversary last year, they played an amazing classics set which saved the night from what was otherwise a badly run event. Thanks for another great interview Twan
Audiojelly was great,i used it from its inception. Also 'Lost In Space' is a great track - very underrated.
love you follow this channel to! Adore your chilled out remixes!!
What a tune.......we’ll done guys. 👌🏻👏🏻👏🏻
The story about the conjoined twins was really interesting - gives some real purpose and weight to the lyrics. Such an awesome track.
I remember hearing this track but memories just popped up after this interview 🤩👍yeah it was a massive track( I got a cassette from my big bro,it was there ,year was 1997 or 1998) but that remix was awesome..thank you for this wonderful interview 🤩🙌😇🕺both Space brothers and twan🤩🙌yeah Merry Christmas to U and UR Family 🕺🎊🎄🎉🙌🤩
I love them all. Make me so happy and so powerful. When I start creating music they will be a big influence. Lustral is my fave of all tracks its golden and so powerful.

Happy new year many blessing 💚
@@geo_neo9 Thank you for subscribers, always happy when people enjoy the interviews! Happy new year!
Wow! Great interview. Didn't know these guys were the creators of so many tracks I enjoy. Cool and funny guys too. Thank you for your creations.
Nurse!! Haha
The remix these guys did of 'Jorio - Remember Me' is still my all time favourite trance track above all others. Unreal.
Awesome interview, thanks guys
Great Stories , Great interview
Thank you very much!
Huge thanks, what an amazing story behind the Space Bros alias !
I had so much fun , watching this Q&A with these masters! it's really quite something, if you know the story behind some masterpieces such as Shine!!! love it , great job Twan
When I first heared it I lost my sh lol such a good tune.
Shine was the 2nd dance song which I bought. It's what got me into DJing, especially as Shine and Forgiven are at the same BMP :) I remember mixing them without doing any work and thinking "I'M A DJ!" haha. Took a few months to actually mix properly. I miss AudioJelly. It's the only place I could get Miro - By your side (rolled mix). Sent them an email thanking them as I completed my collection (at the time) and Stephen wrote back thanking me for my support. Man it made my year!
ScottishSerenity great story. Steve J
Epic song
Awesome track awesome interview.. loved this when it first came out back in the day.
Thank you Tom!!
@@muzikxpress your welcome keep up the great work you do in these interviews.. only just found out what record was called..back in the day it was on a mix cd or tape. Gonna have to listen to more of there tunes I think
Well I'll be dipped in shit! I never knew all those records were related, so to speak. I remember going to my local record shop in maybe '99, when there was a new space brother tune in you didn't even have to listen to it in the shop, you just knew it was gonna be amazing.
Fantastic interview! This is one of my all time fave trance tracks but never even knew the names of the guys behind it, lovely insight :)
Thanks so much!
Ant! ❤ Still gorgeous music amazing ❤
amazing job!!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻the space bros are my all-time trance idols and i have never seen them being interviewed before!! back in the day, they were quite an elusive pair, no pics, no interviews, nothing!! (even on their own website, there was no one single pic of them!) so thx a million for this long interview, you really made my day!! ❤️
and do you know you’re interviewing my favourite trance producers from around the world ?? carlo resoort from holland, mike from belgium and now the space bros from the uk!!! 😉
Thanks so much! I met Steve at the Luminosity Beach Festival when they did a DJ gig there (first one since ages!). Since then we kept in touch so when I was going to London to see some friends, I managed to plan some interviews on the days my friends were working. The 3 interviews I did with these guys were my favorites, so much fun! I hope we're able to travel again in the near future. Once I get enough donations / funds, I would love to go back for at least one or 2 more interviews with them (and hopefully some other London based legends hehe).
Amazing interview! It's great to hear the stories behind the tracks. Legacy is my fav.
Thanks so much! More to come in 2020 ;-)
beautiful track and great interview as always Twan :)
I do have a small incident that happened at Dreamstate this year, my bf overheard a conversation between two guys, while the Space Brothers were playing their set: “Hey do you know who’s playing right now?”... “It’s Cosmic Gate man” 🤣
Hahah looool! Fail ;-) Hope you enjoyed Dreamstate!
Another great interview.
That back story for name The Space Brothers is crazy.
Keep up the good work Twan.
Happy Christmas
Thank you so much! And yeah, so many great stories in this one right? :) Happy Christmas to you too!!

Best TV-Broadcast in Europe!!!!!!! If I had some cash, I would give it to you!
Or I would buy vinyl from the 90s ...
Haha thanks so much!
I had no idea these guys were lustral they made some of the best trance of all time.
They had so many different projects back then, crazy hehe! Actually, after the interviews with the guys were done, I found out Steve did "Hi-Lux - Feel It" as well back in 1995!
Thanks , nice interview
Glad you enjoyed it!
Love the original, I also liked the Commie remix from 2000 as well. Just had such a build.
Brilliant lads
csystemsmusic for sure!!
MUSIC IS LIFE MY FRIENDS , FOLLOW YOUR DREAMS !
Will forever remind me of going to Gatecrasher@TheRepublic. 1999 - 2002. Just incredible!! Itwillalwaysbewithyou. 🙌🏻

Wicked loved Shine a great tune! also Audiojelly was a good site, I got into the top 20 with one of my tracks in the breaks genre. Shame it went kaput and I never got my sales money but even so it was a cool little site.
❤
Someone is a classic too
Lists Space Brothers... and then goes on to name like ten other projects that they were involved in that are HUGE names in the history of trance...
Love all their stuff, and all the labels they were on. Question...y do they go under so many different names?
Dean Hook I did ask them and they explain it around 13:23 in the interview 😉
can't wait to hear the final result of collab with Darren Tate 🙌
Andrew Hudak same here!
Shame they never mentioned Never felt this way with Jem 77, huge rave tune!! love the strawberries ep too!
Damn still searching for a remix of "One More Chance" that seems impossible to find. Heard it in the beginning of 2000. Cant find it anywhere.. :/
Anyone can help?
i am always very curious about the last question :))
haha lol ;-)
What’s the track playing towards the end?
The last track in the interview is "Everywhere I Go" by The Space Brothers :)
Twan you haven't asked us what is our favourite Space Brothers production. I'll answer with Jorio - Remember Me (Space Brothers Remix)
Iow3freq music check the pinned post 😉
@@muzikxpress I'm sure it wasn't there when I looked earlier but now it is!
