- Ranked best barbecue by D Magazine in 2018, the meat cutters at Cattleack serve beef ribs, brisket, and pork ribs to lines of people waiting to eat at the backyard-themed restaurant. What started off as a hobby for owners Todd and Misty David, Cattleack BBQ has now become a popular lunch spot able to seat hundreds of people.
Despite its popularity, it remains open for lunch only twice a week on Thursdays, Fridays, and the first Saturday of each month. We visited the popular BBQ joint to check out the seven smokers on their property, try our hand at slicing brisket, and serve customers alongside the owners.

As a Texan who has lived all over the state, I have to agree.. Central Texas BBQ is the best on the planet.. I’ve been to Cattilack’s and it’s good, really good.. But there are 4-5 places in Austin, alone, that are just as good, or better..

I live here in Dallas, for 29 years, no one says this is the best place, it WAS for a year it won an award but their "being open only 2 days a week"-thing kills their popularity. And if you DO end up going one of those days, be prepared to wait and spend more money than the place across the street. It's more of an experience than a place you go often. Not hating, just stating.

Anytime you have to wait in a long line to get something, usually all you get is HYPE. Hit Lockharts or Slow Bone in Dallas. Rarely a line and it's way better. Don't do Pecan Lodge either.

I've had barbecue in pretty much every region of Texas in my 47 years & I'll tell y'all what - most of the pitmasters here nail the meats but honestly I think that sometimes the sides taste like something they make as an afterthought. But the greats get EVERYTHING right. For example Myers in Elgin have a potato salad that's honestly (almost) worth the drive from here in Corpus Christi!
