Agreed! I’m a crown guy but I love Boston and freaked out on Wellerman and the Shipping up to Boston, amazing show this year just like the last they’ve made since 17!
I love this. It's overflowing with personality. It's also the first thing I've heard this season that has given me goosebumps, although the Devils' Both Sides Now ballad comes close. The future is very, very bright for the Crusaders!
Cool front costumes. True to the music. Also liked the use of the concert French Horn. Nice! A very musical show. Should be a great field production. Whoever wins wins, but this is a breath of fresh air and the design team should be congratulated. Thanks for sharing.
As an alum I couldn’t be prouder. Lots to be determined yet. Personally I love the opener the whole musical show. I thought the performance level was a little off in the beginning as far as intonation in the Mellos but they as all great groups do recovered. Very anxious to see how they incorporate the story visually and GE wise. If the GE and visual programs match the music we could have a new DCI champion but way too early to make any predictions. I’m proud regardless.
Boston sounds wonderful. Love this music! Nice to hear some use of "On The Waterfront" (Bernstein) music that Garfield Cadets used in their 1986 show. It works so well with their theme this year. Well arranged too. Brass and Percussion should score very well. Both sections are incredible with strong players across the board. I'm sure the guard will be fantastic. I am excited to see the visual portion of the show.
This is going to evolve into a winning show for sure! Unbelievable arrangement(s) stylistic and massive.. Such great brass balance ...and the drumline phew..can't wait to see the show on the field!
Great music for the theme, can't wait to see on the field. BD and Blue Coats better look out cuz here comes BAC like a white shark looking for its prey. EAT EM UP BOSTON!!!!!
If they can lock in the intonation on the higher range for the mellos and trumpets this show will really sparkle. I do think this is more then adjusting to the 825 horns vs player issue though!
@@Kanstulman last year Boston played on Yamahas (I think) and this year they’re playing on a new brand of marching horns called 825 (cause like 8 to 5 step size).
I agree it’s definitely an adjustment. I also think some of the intonation blips can be accredited to the listening environment. I aged out with Boston last year and remember Concert in the Park being so loud that all I could hear was the mellophone standing 2 feet behind me lmao. I couldn’t even hear myself play.. and I was in the first row. I do wish I wore earplugs that day haha.
I will never understand, even if I live and breathe another 75 years, why someone thinks their conversation in the middle of any presentation is so effing important!
Never been much with the talking or electrics added to a show ! Great Horn line & Drums My brother and I played with the Kenosha, WI Kingsmen for many years, during the great drum corps days the 60's !
Wow... Between this and Crown (haven't seen anything outta Canton yet) Blue Devils better be REAL good and not coming with a wash, rinse and repeat formulaic show design because its obvious Boston can taste blood in the water after coming so close last year.
@@CertifiedGFmusicBloo's show is gonna be real interesting this season. Super ugly uniforms like last year, but just like last year, they fit the show theme *perfectly.* I'm excited to see their full show.
@@Mattyfearthis season they're just focused on the works of 1 single person instead of 6 or so like last season. It's a much more cohesive show theme than Tempus Blue for sure.
Beautiful great sound, I just wish there was more fast than slow parts because I like to be standing up, but this is more like a sit and enjoy the music type show.
Im not sure im a fan of the 825 Horns. Yamaha's have a richer tone. These horns have a much punchier tone, but a super narrow pitch center. Their intonation is seriously lacking but its still early season. We'll have to wait and see. Theyre still on fire though!
I would say that's less of a bad thing, at least with the music they're known for playing. Crusaders play a lot of fast stuff, lots of runs, and cold attacks. I think punchier tone is good for that, not as well (but still good) with something like the ballad.
@@BossAydan I agree with your point. The tone of the 825's will definitely help with the fast stuff. I have a feeling it's just the members getting used to the nuances of these horns that are most likely new to them. I'm sure they'll sound better even like 2 weeks from now!
Could also be a mic compression thing, plus the hornline members are really squeezed in tight together. I aged out with Boston last year and remember just not being able to hear absolutely anything other than the mellophone player behind me, and not even being able to hear myself- not the most optimal listening environment. I think big things are coming for them this season!

Great performance! Maybe I’m shallow…but I’d like to see a turn back to a more traditional DCI. Late 70’s early 80’s 2 valves and NO trombones not that there were any!
@@euphed_upthey seriously hindered their visual scores though, especially with the pants. Showed some serious dirt all season with the low cut crotch area of the pants. Especially during the company front coupe walk. They were good *looking* uniforms, but they hurt them more than they helped.
Excellent musical performance. It will be interesting to see how it is presented on the field. A couple observations which I can’t help but make…horn posture in the soloists, we now play the clarinet? Also, drum corps costuming reaches a new depth.
I’m guessing the posture is due to the mic placement. Or Maybe on the field they’re positioning it to be more lax for them, kinda in a “drunken sailor” vibe
Why is nobody talking about the “Wellerman” tuba solo/soli? It was great!
