I was just going to say that! At Lynn show they blew me away. Both tone quality and timing / tonguing were much improved over the park standstill. Amazing what a week does and getting on the road!
The only chord that needs a LOT of work is at 1:43, the Gb major. Now, they've already shown they can play it better in tune (though still not perfect) at 1:06. We need to investigate the PRIOR chord in each circumstance. In the 1:06 instance they're coming from a Bb minor chord, which settles in nicely by raising the minor 3rd (the Db). This Db becomes the 5th of the Gb major chord, AND THEY NEED TO LEAVE IT UP THERE! This is where the magic will happen at 1:43: When going from Bb MAJOR, to Gb MAJOR, the Bb is the COMMON TONE, so LEAVE IT ALONE, and raise the Gb (probably sharp anyway in Bb instruments) and raise the Db!! (as if it were a minor chord). Leave the Bb alone! Thus, instead of the age-hold "ho-hum, ya got the 3rd of the chord (Bb in the Gb major), so get it down," strive to RAISE the Gb and Db, thus keeping the common tone Bb COMMON! (You can hear the mellos seriously blowing the concert Bb flat on the Gb major chord...instead, let them sustain it at pitch, and move everyone else up! PS: Bari/Euph/Trp should play Db with 23V) Another problem between 1:06 and 1:43: The tubas are playing middle Gb at 1:06 and Low Gb at 1:43. The low one is not settling at all. If BC is not into my temperament suggestion, at least they should start with tubas on middle Gb at 1:43.
This hornline has matured so much. I'm so excited to see how good they get this season.
Feels so good knowing they keep getting significantly better every year
Facts, horn sargent Daniel Stacey sir!
I may be a crown vet, but I'm just gonna go ahead and admit this is an Ott contending horn line if this translates to the field.
From what I’ve heard in recordings, I think crown has it this year, but we have a long time in the season, I would love Boston to do well in finals!
Evan Berrys nod of approval at the triple tonguing part in the high brass feature is such a flex
Hahaha yes sir!!
Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching!
Holy shit they sound way better than they did in the park

Incredible ensemble tone quality and incredible technical execution.
Sounding great, very tasteful book and playing!
