    Just found one of these older red label 18yr 43% bottles dusty on the shelf for $110 US. Thinking about going back to get it as have not had one. Got the discontinued 15 last year for $85 and enjoyed it.

    My favorite thing about this whiskey is that when I go to bed, I can still taste cinnamon red hots hours later. It's the only whiskey that has ever done that for me. Cheers

      I still prefer Hennesy. The problem with whiskey is the alchohol burns my mouth and when I swallow.

    Great review rob. Highland Park is one of my favorite distillery's. The 18 year is a good daily dram. The early 2000's bottling of the 18 year is remarkable, 1st fill sherry oloroso. The 18 year gives you about 70% of what the 25 year gives you. I associate this peat as a heather peat instead of a moss peat which is what I get with Islay's.

    W6, I bought my HP 18 last year for $109 and its good, not great. My HP 21 is much better. I've mentioned I tried the HP 25 while in Scotland last month and was disappointed. I thought it would blow me away, so I won't be buying that bottle. I think the Bunna 18 & Glendronach 18 are better for less money. While in Scotland I visited Speyside Cooperage company where the whisky barrels are done. I believe it is one company with 3 different locations. Good review.

    Great review brother I haven't watched videos in a while but this one was great. Picked up a bottle recently and I'm in love. Got it for 130 so I think I got a great deal for a whiskey I really enjoy.

    Hey W6, thanks for the review. Sad to see your bottle empty - having said that I have two bottles of this for sale currently. The asking price is R1500 (South Africa) which at the current exchange is roughly $100. Let me know if you are interested

    Have never really understood the fuss around this 18yo. A country mile off of the HP25 and the HP21 clocks in much higher in books too. It's not a malt where I feel like I am gaining that much over the 12yo to justify the cost (unlike say Glendronach or Bunnahabhain)

    • @WhiskyInThe6
      @WhiskyInThe6  7 лет назад

      I think it appeals to many because of the peat, sweet sherry profile. I do agree, it's not an out of this world whisky.

      Serge scores the 18 and 21 the same, that said I am waiting for the Bunna 18 to show up on the LCBO shelves so I can dump my Tomatin 2003 single cask in trade for it.

    • @VaryingViewpoint
      @VaryingViewpoint 7 лет назад

      peter white, I don't get Serge rating the 18yo and 21yo the same at all. There's a huge bump-up in quality in the 21yo (47.5% abv) over the 18yo (43% abv) imho. But mind you I find the 18yo a lot better than the 12yo.

    • @peterwhite507
      @peterwhite507 7 лет назад

      Agreed, just saying.Would never drop $200+ on the HP18. I am considering $285 for the HP21 in New Brunswick as they have a boat load of it but won't be there until the Summer.
      I will pick up that Bunna 18 in Ontario despite the LCBO price.

    • @VaryingViewpoint
      @VaryingViewpoint 7 лет назад

      peter white, I'm with you. For $85 more for the 21yo over the 18yo it's a no brainer. To me, the 21yo is way underrated. It's a fabulous dram!

    Highland park 18 is a great whisky that you can't go wrong with, it's similar to the 12 but more complex, more flavour, and it's smoother so you can enjoy this dam with ease.

    $135 in Pittsburgh PA. $105 for The Glenlivet 18. I might just got for the Glenlivet 18 since it is cheaper.

      If you prefer some peat go with the HP. If you'd rather not have peat go with the Livet. Both very good.

    dying to try this...my first scotch was the hp 12 viking honour and i love it with so much going on: brine, floral, sweet and some tobacco on the back end...i'm itchin' to try the 18 (now called viking pride) but it's currently 2.5x the price of the 12...is it worth it? i can get it for cdn154.

      I have been a fan of the HP 12 for a long time but after trying the 18 last night, it’s on a whole different level. Much thicker, smoother and fruitier with less peat. Wonderful juice

      Thanks buddy. Might be ordering a sample of the 25 from the whisky exchange. However, if I sell my Van Winkle, I'll likely buy a second bottle of HP25 to open.

    • @maltreviews

      If you are getting a second bottle of hp25 then I would seek out the older version. The 48.1% one is even better. Not easy to find anymore but you eventually will.

    As always, solid review Rob. I'm intrigued by the HP 18 and have found an excellent deal for it at $120. I already have the Talisker 18 which I do enjoy however, is the HP18 much different from it or even worth buying at that price point? They are both 18 year old peated scotches and was looking to diversify my collection. Any tips and or insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

    • @WhiskyInThe6
      @WhiskyInThe6  7 лет назад +1

      I would say the Talisker is peatier. I think you'd enjoy HP18 although I feel the 21 and 25 are much better, which is often not the case for me to feel that way about whisky over 18 yrs. if you can find a Glendronach 18 allardice or Glengoyne 18, I'd say grab one of those instantly.

    • @michaelmanganiello8209
      @michaelmanganiello8209 7 лет назад

      Thanks, Rob. I'll be sure to look for those two "Glens" that you mentioned. Lastly, the same liquor store is willing to sell me the Balvenie 21 Portwood (40% ABV) at $180. I know based on you're two reviews from it I assume that you liked it? I'm about to drop close to $300 on both the HP 18 and BLV21 and wanted to make sure they're worth the purchases. As always, I appreciate your insight.

      @@WhiskyInThe6 Thanks man. I'm actually not a Highland Park fan, and believe me, I'm a very experienced scotch drinker. Granted I'm only basing my opinion off of the 12 Viking Honour. That's the only Highland Park I've had. Thought about taking a chance on the Full Volume. It being aged in bourbon casks and at least 17 years. Plus it's unchillfiltered. Right now I'm really enjoying a bottle of Caol ila 17 unpeated. Stuff is phenomenal. I got lucky and found it for $110. I couldn't believe how lucky I got with that price. It was the last one too. Anyways man. Cheers🥃
