** Can I donate a whisk(e)y for you to review in The Whisk(e)y Vault?
Of course! If you’re interested in making a tax-deductible donation towards our whiskey selection, head on over to:

** What's with the necklaces?
Rex is a whiskey mooch. His necklace is a manifestation of pure glory - forged from the irradiated bones of eagles and wolves. Also a tube sock.
See the origin story here: goo.gl/JMc2Hr
Daniel is a whiskey sommelier. His necklace is a token of his sommelier level, and he trains whiskey sommeliers at The Whisk(e)y Marketing School in Austin Texas.
**A Whisk(e)y school?
Yup. Here are a few things we believe.
** You don’t have to be a snob to appreciate and love great whiskey.
Whisky and Whiskey (it depends on where it’s from) have been an important part of cultures around the world from time immemorial. Whiskey is a part of the very fabric of Western society, and in most places, is as common and accessible as beer.
Like Jazz and wine, snobs have predictably hijacked whiskey appreciation, spoiling our natural, common connection with it and creating a false dichotomy of “good whiskey” and “bad whiskey.”
It’s time to break through the emotional bias with facts and science. That’s what this school is about.
** The only valid definition of “good” whiskey is “whiskey you like to drink.”
Learning how to share your love of whiskey in a way that connects people to the history and the story has more to do with public speaking and storytelling than it does with facts and tests.
The best way to learn about whiskey and share that love is to drink whiskey and talk about it with friends. Study the history, find the stories, and discover the culture and the methods that have been developed over hundreds of years. That’s what you’ll do when you attend The Whisk(e)y Marketing School.
** You don’t need a marketing degree to learn how to share your love of whiskey with the world.
There's an old saying, "In business, it's not what you know... It's who you know."
Regardless the industry you're in, most people are clumsy and ineffective when it comes to "networking" because they ignore a very important rule - Relationship First, Business Second.
There's a tremendous amount of curiosity about Whisk(e)y today. It's a great excuse for you to gather a group of people who want to have fun and learn something new. The Whisk(e)y School teaches you how to tap into that curiosity, and share your love of whisk(e)y in an unpretentious way. You're demonstrating knowledge, expertise, and an engaging personality - things valued by every gatekeeper, in every industry.
Or would you rather hand out business cards and cross your fingers?

Finally y'all reviewed my favorite, Highland Park 18! Me and my dad love this bottle. It is one of the smoothest I have ever had. Thanks!
OMG !!! I drinked my first peated wiskey and i am in love . Laphroaig i love you. Thank you guys for all your videos. Your number 1 fan from Romania.
Quite simply the best 18 and under Scotch made. Sweet, smooth, peaty, spicy. Perfectly balanced.
Daniel used all the right words with the HP 18 ... CLASSIC, GLORIOUS, SMOOTH 👌😊🥃!!
I find it super unique compared to other 18 year only sherry casked whiskys. I believe that is in part due to orkney island temperture/climate and proximity to shore. I do not believe it is as smooth as some. what makes it awesome is its finish
THE WHISKY COUCH ruclips.net/video/5n9uHP7MshY/видео.html
Love me some highland park! Was at a highland park tasting, last year, where follow Dane Martin Markvardsen was the presenter. He told us that all HP's are natural color and non chill filtered.
IMHO the Jane Walker release could be considered a bit of a cash-in but then you need to consider they were donating money ($1 / bottle) to charity and this was a fun way of raising awareness.
Amazing idea for the Elizabeth Walker naming though; would have made the whole thing seem more genuine and less gimmicky.
HP 18!! Like you said ‘the classic 18yo’ a definite favourite of mine 👌😊🥃!
We love that the only legible labels in Saint Daniel's armful of whisk[e]y bottles are Jack Daniels and Knob Creek.
I'll have to remember the fashion tip when I get a new tattoo. Great review as well ! You guys are great
gentlemen, im glad youre not tossing off the toast any more and doing it right. do you have any idea the kind of bond youre creating with that? all the greats in the history of entertainment have had a endtag. you give everyone a fond hug with that toast and you will receive nothing but fondness back. keep up the brilliance. oh, and rex, stop pulling your tshirt out of the cold dryer as youre leaving the house. or do you just stuff them in your drawers all wadded up? lol
Hilarious that you, the Mooch, only buy one or two bottles a year, yet have lots of bottles at home. You are clearly an expert mooch.
Sometimes the most innocuous statements really catch my ear. When Daniel said, “look at the nose.” I burst out laughing.
Rex and Dan...iel,
I gave up drinking for Lent so I guess you can say I took your quarterly challenge to the next level. I consider myself a novice whiskey drinker and somewhere along the way I decided to learn more it. I found you guys and quickly became a tribe member. I don't think that's the intent of Lent, but that's for a different discussion. I've enjoyed living vicariously though you guys the last couple of weeks and now have a long list of whiskeys to try and mooch off of my friends and family (to prevent bankruptcy.) As I near the end of Lent I wanted to say thank you. I'll be sure to hold up my first glass in honor of you guys on Sunday.
Well done sticking with it, Gary. Glad to have you with us.
So my two takeaways from this episode... 1) Without the defining black v-neck, Daniel's neck virtually disappears. 2) I analyzed the progression facial expressions of Rex in the Patron Saint of Whiskey graphic and was both laughing hysterically and slightly disturbed. But again great video as always our leaders of MAGNIFICENT BAAAAAASSSSSTAAAARRRRDDDDDDRY!!!!
Ever since I discovered this channel. I have had 4 bottles of whiskey. I discovered it 1 week ago.
Still waiting for the chance to try or buy a bottle of the HP 18. Can't freaking wait!
Bought my first bottle a few weeks ago, Laphroig,
Loved it!
I even commented my thoughts on a whiskey for the first time. Since then I've bought Glenlivet 15, Wild turkey 101, and Monkey Shoulder. Currently on Rebecca Creek. I've seemed to notice something and in the name of The Whisk(e)y Vault, I'd like to make this a longer comment than it should be.
From what I can tell thus far, I seem to pick whisky's that are part of some of the most memorable video's y'all produce
AND
I have not yet been led astray by either Rex or Daniel!
Either I just really seem to love whiskey
~or~
Y'all are "my people"
Either way, keep up the good work and "Go n-éirí an bóthar leat" (hope I spelt that correctly enough) in reference t0 the distillery!
-San Antonio raised, Wisconsin born "Southerner", with Indian lineage on both sides (the tech support kind, not the casino kind)
p.s. (because Rex loves p.s.'s)
What is Beethoven's favorite fruit? A ba-na-na-naaaaaaaah
- #TeamSomm
And Rex well what more can be said but the dude abides. Great job as per usual fellas love the channel keep up the great work.
If I could afford it I would drink Highland Park 18 everyday. Between Highland Park 18 and Lagavulin 16, I could be a happy guy with just these two bottles
Tried Jameson cask mates today(I've had regular Jameson before to no I'll effect) and found that it causes swelling in my throat, the same way that Guinness does, wondering if there are anymore stout finished whiskey's I should be aware of as to not cause problems in the future. Thanks love the videos.
Daniel...Your white shirt is throwing off the delicate balance of good and evil that exists in the vault. You grow dangerously close to incurring a Rex week upon yourself!
Finally found a place that sells decently-priced drams for poor people who want to taste whisky such as myself! They had a wider selection than other places I've been to, with Glenrothes, Glendronach, Auchentoshan, Highland Park, Nikka, etc. The Lagavulin 16 caught my eye as it was the only Islay they had, and as a whisky novice, I have not tried any Islays before. The closest thing to peat that had grazed my palate before this was Teacher's Highland Cream. So I ordered the Lagavulin, and instantly loved it! My friend who was with me doesn't like smokey/peaty whiskies and felt that the Lagavulin was very stong. I didn't get what he meant as I was getting all kinds of good aromas and flavours. This is the 3rd single malt I've ever had, after Singleton 12(Glen Ord) and Glenfiddich 15. Not sure how accurate my novice palate is, but:
Nose: Peat, mellow smoke, bacon, orange, vanilla, sweet non-citrus fruit(i don't know why but when I closed my eyes, I pictured strawberries for a split second)
Palate: Sweet burnt ends, wood, honey/jam, pepper, slightly creamy texture.
Finish: Medium (not as long-lasting as the Singleton 12 I had)
Nosing and tasting the Lagavulin 16 was a lot of fun, hoping to head back soon to try the others!
Tim Pereira. Sir, you’ve been sucked into the vortex. Congratulations! You’ll never be able to drink or appreciate weaker or less interesting whiskies without being disappointed. You have been both blessed and cursed by the whisky gods.......accept you fate and find a new friend who appreciates Lagavulin. lol!
Battlehill is made by Duncan Taylor. I work at Total Wine and was talking with a manger about what the difference between the two yesterday. I tried looking up information about it but couldn't find anything. Then lo and behold you do a video about it today.
As for the Jane Walker it's the only whisky in the aisle to have the nutrition information on it.
Yes! I had forgotten that Duncan Taylor makes the Battlehill lines.
Sooooo.....is the only difference between the battle hill and the conventional release a variance in proof? If so, is there enough of a difference to want to have the two side by side?
Where’s Daniels black shirt? Does he have a job interview?!
Raymond Mota Basically the opposite.
I tried my first Highland Park in a bar the other day-Dark Origins. I fell in love! But a bottle is out of my price range ($160-$180AUD) and very hard to find. Is there something similar around, HP or otherwise?
For American whiskey, my cutoff is about $40 (Four Roses Single Barrel, Rittenhouse Rye, etc.). For Scotch/Irish whisky, usually $55 (Laddie, Redbreast 12)
Josh Evans I’ll see your $40 and raise you $100.
I’m getting a bottle next paycheck for sure. I’ve been on a speyside kick lately and need some smoke back in my life. I also need more bag pip intros. Bring it back.
Im always amaze by my wife, as she can describe in words taste of whiskies, even if she did not like them. Many times, she speak it aloud, without asking and then blush for a bit, if she was right or wrong. Im telling her, that there is no right or wrong as there are no apples, cinnamon or whatever in the whisky actually. There is only language and proper words which connects with people you are talking to.
exactly
Jane Walker. Good intentions, but same whisk(e)y just $6-10 more expensive.
Did Daniel have a court date today?
Jeremy Gillette He’s wearing stripes isn’t he.....must not have gone well.
the one frustration I have with this channel continues to be the sign off. Since I watch almost exclusively at work, I can *Never* " drink with you!"
And "Danny" Nailed it with the shirt questions LOL
My level is about 70....I have bought in the 60s several times without thinking about it, but at about 80 or so I think hard about whether or not it's really gonna be worth it every time. Not to say I haven't on at least a few occasions...but there was definitely more thought involved.
Cute. I’m by no means rich but I didn’t hesitate to buy the HP18 and even auctioned a bottle of HP25!
Hey Rex and Daniel. Iv been a stalker for a while now. Love your show and your hate against whisky snobs. Every time I try a expensive whisky and get let down i always go back to my favority blended. Islay Mist. Its cheep, its peated, and it always brings back memories to my first whisky, a laphroaig 12. Not a bad whisky to pop your cherry to =)
The white shirt with the vertical stripes looks very slimming on you 🥃
So I went to total wine to buy highland park 18 for the hubby and the "expert" there sold me on battlehill 18. This is the only review I have found comparing the 2, so thanks for that! I've been having buyer's remorse bc battlehill is relatively unknown. My husband likes peat, sherry, smooth, should I stick with the battlehill? or exchange it?
Whats the situation with the Highland Park 18 now? I only see Viking Pride. What happened to the older one? Are they the same or different?
Good call with the loose shirt on a new tattoo. Heck. I would probably just ditch the button up all together and wear the sleeveless for the rest of the day, and more sleeveless for the next few days.
Great video as always guys, just recently discovered you guys and you have re-sparked my love for whiskey, can I request Highland Park Valkyrie, if I wasn’t so broke I’d send you guys a bottle, but if I get a raise I’ll send you guys a bottle
Could you guys do a Celtic Cask review? I don’t know which one ye have but I can see it. Nothing about it on RUclips at all!
Recently received a bottle of Buchanan's 12 Year from a client of mine as he received it as a gift and isn't fond of whiskey. Have you had any encounters with any of their blends? And if not, it would be neat to see your take on it.
On the mention of diminishing returns in whisky I have a question for you guys. At what price is a compass box release gonna make you really consider it?
Basil Crowcross Not that you are asking me, but I love Compass Box whiskies so I thought I’d give you my take. I think most of them are actually priced right, but I still try to buy them on sale. At first I was a bit shocked by the price for a blend but I took Daniel’s comments about CB and though about it and decided you only live once. I tried Great King Street Artists Blend first. Fortunately, I bought my next two on a day my favorite liquor store had all their spirits on sale for 15% off so the price was in the low fifties. I tasted The Spice Tree and The Peat Monster and was completely sold on CB. Hedonism, Oak Cross, and Alysa are on my buy list now. Phenomenology and No Name will follow. I wish I had been able to get a bottle of Circus and Enlightenment. Oh well.....I won’t buy any more until there is another 15% off sale though. Why waste good coin?
Guys, i would really love your help (and i bet Rex wouldn't mind helping me out in this one):
I am thinking about what bottle to buy for my birthday, in a couple months. I'm tasting stuff, but there's something that i cant seem to find in a bar near me: Talisker 18
I LOVE talisker, so i hope you guys could review it!
I was thinking what if Johnny Walker made a special blend called Jane Walker, but in similar fashion to Blantons with their horses and letters on each bottle, each bottle will have the story of and/or a picture of a prominent female in the whiskey community. Like women master distillers or someone who advanced the distillation field or something along those lines.
Should i get my hands on this one or the Johnnie Walker Blue Label?
Highland Park 18 is my favorite Scotch by a long shot.
I dolphinetly🐬 love Highland Park........in fact, I think it was created on porpoise 🐬 just for me. It’s smooth like a marine mammal’s nether regions....Lol,
The dolphin fart sounds more satisfying than those bottle uncorkings...
I am guessing since the policy of "no longer reviewing open bottles". Is in effect Daniel forced Rex to consume half of those two prior to reviewing. Poor Rex. Cheers
i asked the same question about Elizabeth walker
Can someone explain the distinction between the Patron Saint and the Magnificent B-----d distinction for me?
qty of bottles donated
Hey guys, have you ever tried any Tasmanian whiskys?
Long time listener, first time caller! You guys are friggen awesome. I have fallen in love with the Islay whiskeys thanks to you. Question where the hell do I start. So far I have bought Caol ala and Laphroaige select. Please tel me where to go from here. I loved them both. Also how the hell do I buy minis when no one around sells them and RI won’t allow me to mail whiskey.
MATTHEW MCCALLIGETT You’d better buckle down and try Scotches from Lagavulin, Bunnahabhain, Bowmore, Ardbeg, and Bruichladdich. Also try Oban and Talisker.
Hey have you guys had the Highland Park Magnus? I'm shopping on a budget and wanted your opinion as to it, maybe even a review. Tribe on!
What would happen if, like some do with wine, you would pump the air out of a whiskey bottle in an attempt to preserve it?
May the Gods of Whiskey have mercy on my soul, as I have sinned. Yesterday night, I went to visit a friend of mine I had not seen in a while. I brought with me the end of my Jameson Caskmates and a fine Rye for me. He was drinking Triple Sec mixed in Hawaïan Punch, may the Lords save his soul. I had finished my Jameson, and he was drunk. He wanted to taste my Rye, I said yes. He asked me to pour some in his Hawaïan Punch... and I did. May the Gods pardon my sins, in the name of the Rye, the Bourbon and the Holy Scotch,
Amen
What you did was to graciously give to a friend in need. No need for forgiveness. We should all have a friend like you.
Whiskey Vault your pardon is a true blessing. Much praise!
Oh man, you are in deep shit with the whisk(e)y gods..........you are doomed!
Hey Daniel and Rex! My son Logan James was born on March 25. I was wondering if you guys could do a toast for him with some highland park 18!
Do you think that the old Highland park 18 is better than the current viking honor?
I was going to A/B those, but I don't have the current 18 right now. Research needed.
Question: Have they ever done the Highland Park 15???
The last time I bought MaCallan 18 (3-4 years ago) it was about ~$130. I about $#!T myself a couple weeks ago when I saw it for $275 (before tax). . . I love me some MaCallan, but I've moved on to Glendronach 18, Glengoyne 21, Balblair 90 ( . . . in fact I bought a bottle of each of those three that combined cost less than the MaCallan 18). I don't know what's caused the price spike, but I won't be buying it again at that price.
Macallan is for rich, dumb people who are trying to impress richer, dumber people. Leave it for them and get yourself some Glendronach.
Ah, a normal you tube commenter. We don't have too many of those here.
I’ve always understood that “one should never water another man’s (woman’s) whisky,“ and that’s why you would have a water jug at the table for your guests to use. Poor Rex.
I'm new to this channel. So is Daniel a shaman or a 1980s rapper? What's up with the chain?
Daniel bought a shirt !!!!!!
And.......is Rex wearing chinos???? 🤭
Have you guys tried the BenRiach 12 year Peated Port Wood? If not you should definitely add it to the list and do a review on it.
That sounds amazing.
It really is. I picked it up last night. I believe they are not making any more of them from what I was told.
What did one Japanese man say to another Japanese man?
I don't know, I don't speak Japanese.
What is the Mooch’s new magnificent plan? Find out next time on The Whiskey Vault.
Daniel looks like an older Ragnar. Suitable that he was drinking some HIghland Park in this episode =P
Once long ago I wanted to get a tattoo. My wife didn’t want me to get one so she sarcastically suggested that if I just had to get one it should be placed right above my butt and read “Beware of Jet Blast”...........needless to say I didn’t get a tattoo and we both moved on.
What do you think of Carlyle Blended Scotch Whisky?
Haven’t tried it yet
Highland Park seems to be the Apple/Iphone of the Scotch industry. They make a crud ton of new products every year, spend a lot on marketing to explain why this new thing is better than the one you already have, and by the time you finally rationalized buying the new one, a newer one is already out. Highland Park is great scotch still.
I suspect both of these whiskies were aged in different barrels. Maybe more refill barrels in the Battlehill?
Daniel, how is best to send the whisky vault a bottle of whisky: USPS, UPS, or Fedex
all are technically illegal, but UPS seems to let it get through if it's not blatantly labeled alcohol.
8TH!
Highland Park makes a bill deal about not adding anything to their whisky.
I am a few months new to the channel. Iv watched every episode of the tribe videos as I go through the vault episodes it really throws me off seeing Daniel in anything other then a black Tshirt
OMG WHY DOES DANIEL NOT HAVE A BLACK SHIRT ON! WERE ALL DOOMED!! QUICK EVERYONE RUSH TO THE WHISKEY VAULT AND SAVE IT FROM THIS DOPPLEGANGER!
this or the old version of longmorn 16?
You should get a tattoo of Rex riding a Dolphin
Or a dolphin riding Rex
They start talking about the whisky at @2:45
Whiskey price barrier... For me the resistance comes in around $70. On some items I'll look for a smaller format 750ml or mini, to try something new.
Hey guys I'm trying to catch up on all your videos I'm in December now I wanted to ask your opinion on the exceptional malt I can't find any reviews on it anywhere and was wondering if it's worth the $80 I'm hoping u comment on it so when I'm catching up on your videos I can get my comment read I think that would be funny # bring back rex week!!!
Is the new tatoo Rex farting out that smooth dolphin?!
that shirt
You could have have put on a black dress shirt
WHAT’S HAPPENING #whiteshirt
Whos the guy in the white button down and what has he done with Daniel?????
I don't think my OCD can take Daniel in anything other than a black t-shirt.
Me either
Whiskey Vault you know you are going to have to show the new ink.....
Pretend it’s a night shirt .....
of course
On the Jane Walker blend: Totally pandering.
SOMM! SERVICE ME! 🛎🛎🛎🛎 back when the whisk(e)y tribe Facebook group started, and you used to comment. I was at a liquor store wondering what to try next. You immediatly chimed in with questions, budget, finish, and style. Then you recommended Glendronach 12yr, which turned out to be a new staple for me. I want to try the 15 but can not find it since it's discontinued status. Please help me mix the right proportions to duplicate the 15yr.
Dang, that will take some work. Start with Aberlour 12 as a base and work from there.
A good place to start but no target! Haha that’s like starting a road trip in Vegas with no end destination!
Joe Gomez Its about the journey, not the destination....

finally a decent review. thank you so so so so much. ill actually like this vid this time.
I've been here since the early days. watch this show go from ok to awesome to meh. I will stick with the channel because the show will eventually find its mean and I believe in these two knuckleheads and their vision of the future of whiskey, but thanks for the life advice...
ha. ok. thanks, buddy. have a great day.
Is it going to be a sommy bear tattoo??
Daniel's black shirts must be in the wash.
It was high time :))

Highland Park doesn't add color as far as i remember from the master distiller's interview
