Love, Love, Love those unpotted Custombuckers. I've a set of unpotted Burstbucker pickups I swapped AlNiCo 3 magnets in, they very much have the Custombucker feel and tone. Congrats Austin, such a great discovery with this M2M.
Thanks for buying this one and for covering it on video, and thank you everyone for all of the comments! This guitar RULED. Give us a shout if you have any questions about grabbing a M2M of your own!
Hi Trogly; the Les Paul Special is the best Les Paul ever made. It is all over the records in the 60s and 70s in Les Paul standard took all the credit. I am so happy for you, discovering the tone knobs. They are the secret to the Les Paul Guitar the trouble pick up with the tone, all rolled off with the amplifier on 10. That is the sound that made Clapton, Mick, Taylor, and so many more. You are doing an awesome job with your site here. I love it thank you so much.
Purdy 😎 I have a one piece body of poplar...and it's Heart and the heart of the tree lines up perfectly in the center of the guitar body I cut it when I was building my baby brothers log home....All the Rainbow color's Purple red yellow Blue etc... over 30 year ago was waiting for it to dry I think it may be ready to finish... lols 😎 One of my favorite you have done... thanks.. I also had a Gretsch guitar similar to this model.
Neat guitar I like it because its different. Sounds good as well. This is just one of the reasons why I like to watch Trogly's Guitar Show because you'll just see stuff you rarely see anywhere else
The look of this & those pups are just amazing! I'd have to feel the neck, not sure if I'd like it that chunky, or that chunky price! I have a 94 TV Yellow Special (P90's) with a bridge & TP. She's a beauty & if I remember correctly when I got it back then it was WAY, WAY less than today's prices. Just one of my great LP's in my collection. Thanks for buying all these & demoing them, way cool Austin!
I have to say that the body and the pickups work together very well for a much more full sound that normal. Some very nice low mis resonance that is often missing, really fills up the sound nicely. I suspect that rolling it off a big thins it out to where you are use to.
Great looking great sounding Special Standard 57 with Custombuckers. Love the grain and dyes, gorgeous. Who needs those maple caps anyway. Just weird having a cream pickguard on a Cherry Special.
I’ve never really been impressed with custom buckers- especially considering their price. But those sounded incredible. The neck pup had the juice & wasn’t muddy or mushy sounding, & the bridge pup was an ass kicker without being too harsh. These actually came super close to sounding/ behaving like real PAF’s to my ears. I’m gonna have to give Custom Buckers another look
Anyone notice how just watching and listening to the playing demo you can tell when Austin loves playing a guitar and when he’s not so thrilled with one? Not a bad thing at all. But you can see the enthusiasm when he’s really enjoying what he’s playing.
That is absolutely beatiful....... the specials are my fav les paul model i have a 2012 vintage burst that has neck binding and humbucks and tuneomatic instead of wrap around so its kinda set up similar to that one
Trapezoid inlays on a Special, that's nutty. It's like if they made the Les Paul Studio in the 50s. I can definitely imagine one of these playing at smaller gigs or featuring on a few records
Salutations Austin! Very nice Les Paul Special! Pickups sound great! Thank you for posting these videos! Please have an excellent and awesome day! ☀️✨🎸
It’s almost like someone going crazy and cutting the maple top off of their Standard and then dying the new top red. It’s cool, but the pricing on Specials from the Custom shop is nuts. Be great if Gibson USA did one again since they discontinued the Tribute DC models (though I think the bass might still be going.)
With no maple top , it does not sound like a Standard Les Paul . Also , to me , the lack of an arched top is a negative , arch tops are more playable. Nothing wrong with Fenders, but I love my Les Paul Standard .
That's a cool looking guitar. Love the tone of those custom buckers. Almost sounded like you were playing one of my songs at the beginning of the playing demo! The chorus of my song "On The Run" sounds really similar to the C, G, Fmaj7 progression you were playing. The order of the chords and strum patterns are different, but it was enough to make me do a double take like "Whoa...Trogly played one of MY songs?!" 😅
Great review...as always! I've found that some of the best sounding LP's and obviously SG's have all mahogany bodies no matter what type of humbucking pickup they have installed. The only thing I don't care for about this model is that neck joint shelf. It bugs me! A question: Are you measuring the neck depth at the 1st and 12th frets on the top of the fret or just behind the fret? It's difficult to tell from the camera angles.
I agree, Trogly should make that his number one guitar for playing, practicing, and gigging. Maybe then, Gibson USA will come out with a Signature Trogly version of this awesome guitar like they did for Beato.
Well I like my les Paul special TV yellow alot but I like this one alot more for sure. Not enough to buy it at that price because it's way way over priced. You can buy a beautiful standard much cheaper and much nicer to look at
Despite how good it sounds, and how beautiful that color is, ever since I’ve played a proper ES335, I struggle to justify guitars like this that are insanely priced for the sake of aesthetic.
I like that though my lp special has a very "d" shaped neck up in the first 4-5 frets making chords uncomfy it did not feel like the rounded the 2019s had this may have changed again igk. I guess try it before you buy it unless your in a guitar desert
Really enjoy watching your videos! The first note you played in this video (on the neck pickup), I said to myself “what a great sounding guitar!” I’m not so sure about the look of this guitar but like you said this guitar needs to be played on the stage! Thanks for posting this video. Really enjoyed it as always!
Is Gibson could be trusted to go easy on its customers instead of manipulating them into spending more cash than is necessary for a new guitar, I would imagine this model would be priced somewhere in proximity to where the SG standard and reissue of the Flying V were priced in the 90s. It seems like an instrument with professional features that isn't attempting to be the same as one of the default classics. That is the kind of stuff gives it should be trying to make, instruments that constitute design modifications. If they would do that and stop hiking up the premiums on the same handful of designs, they would not be half as likely to go bankrupt. They also wouldn't feel the need to keep taking companies like Armadillo to court because Dean *supposedly* keeps infringing on their patents.

the prettiest guitar I've seen in 2023.
my god. wish i had the money

I'm surprised at just how good that sounds! I wasn't expecting such sweet tones
I'm surprised by how much I like a ribbon mahogany top guitar like that, It looks Rich and warm and rather good.
Trogly plays better than usual with this guitar.
Ayy first time I caught a Trogly vid the minute it launched!
Some say it has to be the second it launches 😂
This sounds like a great 1970s Rock Guitar. How about ‘Riding the Storm Out’?
Trogly does such a great job at getting an "up close" of this guitar... so cool... What a Great Guitar! Thanks, Trogly! Love This!
Specs turn out to be a lot like an SG Standard - mahogany body & bound neck, abr-1, trapazoid inlays, humbuckers & klusons.
Oh wow that sounds fancy with some dirt. I really love the aniline dye finish too😊
That has a really nice figuring on the top looks and sounds great 👍
Neat guitar I like it because its different. Sounds good as well. This is just one of the reasons why I like to watch Trogly's Guitar Show because you'll just see stuff you rarely see anywhere else
The beginning of the video where you showed a bunch of guitars? The Les Paul Senior? It checks every single box for me
The look of this & those pups are just amazing! I'd have to feel the neck, not sure if I'd like it that chunky, or that chunky price! I have a 94 TV Yellow Special (P90's) with a bridge & TP. Those pickups sound great
Had to do a double take. Did not expect that sound. Great vintage tone
Trogly should make that guitar his number 1 guitar.
That sounded so good.
Great looking great sounding Special Standard 57 with Custombuckers. Love the grain and dyes, gorgeous. Who needs those maple caps anyway. Just weird having a cream pickguard on a Cherry Special.
Agreed I like it too!
reminds me of a early 2000s model i had called the les paul special with humbuckers , a satin cherry model was kinda cheaper then
Everything was cheaper 23 years ago! 🙃
@@rockinrob2004 true that! Gibson had those affordable worn satin models that came with gigbags
That thing is a ringer i love it 😍
Hey Trogly, have you ever done a "how to setup your Gibson" video?
How about a "Tribute To The Volute?"
Thanks & keep doing that stuff you do!
I’ve never really been impressed with custom buckers- especially considering their price. But those sounded incredible. Awesome review, looks and sounds great!
Cool guitar. Like the humbuckers.
Amazing guitar! I love that it’s so different but sounds so good!
Trogly should make that his number one main guitar for playing, practicing, and gigging.

4500.00 I bought my special for 800 bucks three years ago
That's a custom shop Made 2 Measure. Also, you bought a Gibson USA Special Tribute, not even a real Special.
I love the tone of this guitar!
dang bro i hope u kept this one. u are crushing on it it! Blues rock machine!
Awesome guitar, I love everything about it!
That thing sounds great!
You should do a video talking about guitar wall hangers and comparing them.
This one is great🤘
Jeez that’s just fantastic
Warm and tinny as they should. As you said I would prefer the P90 pickups. And a double cut. Just me.
Austin’s playing had gotten so much better
yeah i noticed that too
I was thinking the same thing… that guitar sounds great too..,
@@adamk1466 it really did!
Yeah! He sounded pretty good tonight 👍
Well when you have a $4,000 Marshall bluesbreaker you shouldn't let it go to waste. So I agree
I think it would be cool if they had made the pick guard the shape like a a standard les Paul
Never been a fan of the wrap tail piece on the specials and Jr's ..I like this one but that price?? Wow! Not for me at that price point.
Trapezoid inlays on a Special, that's nutty. It's like if they made the Les Paul Studio in the 50s.
I can definitely imagine one of these playing at smaller gigs or featuring on a few records
I really dig this guitar! I love that it’s different!
Salutations Austin!
Very nice Les Paul Special!
Pickups sound great!
Thank you for posting these videos!
Please have an excellent and awesome day!
☀️✨🎸
I bet it sounds amazing.
Dat guitar iz a cool mash-up of LPs , it looks beauty full , and it sounds goot too ...me likey...Thanks Trogly-ly !!
It's like the 2016 gibson special plus. That had zebra pickups.
Hey Trogly, I am surprised you are not talking about the recent administrative changes within Gibson.
I really digging the look of that thing. I wouldn't want to pay $4500 for it though. I'll cross my fingers for a standard production run someday.
That would be sick
With no maple top , it does not sound like a Standard Les Paul .
Also , to me , the lack of an arched top is a negative , arch tops are more playable.
Nothing wrong with Fenders, but I love my Les Paul Standard .
Really love the channel. Keep up the great work!
That thing sounds fantastic 😍
The wood grain on the body is super nice.
That one sound really good
My 56 has a black jack plug I think they came like that back in the day
I like that special standard!
That's a very nice sounding guitar
Those custom 'buckers sounded great. I seriously dig slightly underwound pups, rather than hotter sounding ones anyway though. Love this LP Special.
Another great show!🎉
that red looks so good
is it just me or does 4k for a special seem ridiculous?
Just like I said the other day... this is the best $2000 guitar that you can get for 4k.
Definitely not just you. That’s a whole 05 Honda Civic.
Bunch of cheap asses in here
No. It's not just you as I recently bought an SG Special for $1200
@@caiusmadison2996 Not to mention it looks bland as hell.
Those custom buckers and sweet!
That must be one of the best sounding guitars I've ever heard
Mixing & matching features from Custom, Standard, Deluxe, Special, Junior, Single & Double Cut Les Pauls. Enjoy.
I really loved the Special. Would love it more if it had a flat maple top🎸
Trogley is an ace!
why is a LP Special $4200?
That's a cool looking guitar. Love the tone of those custom buckers. Almost sounded like you were playing one of my songs at the beginning of the playing demo! The chorus of my song "On The Run" sounds really similar to the C, G, Fmaj7 progression you were playing. The order of the chords and strum patterns are different, but it was enough to make me do a double take like "Whoa...Trogly played one of MY songs?!" 😅
Reminds me of the $800 LP specials from the early 2000’s.
Nothing bores me like a brown Les Paul. The 4700 dollar price tag is ridiculous.
I love it.
I agree!! Looks much better with the VOS cleaned off around the neck.
Great review...as always! I've found that some of the best sounding LP's and obviously SG's have all mahogany bodies no matter what type of humbucking pickup they have installed. The only thing I don't care for about this model is that neck joint shelf. It bugs me!

Love this channel. But Gibson's pricing is absolutely laughable
That guitar is a classic rock machine 👍
It is cool, but I would rather have a studio ;P
Looks weird without the carved top.
Trogly the Gibson Les Paul special 4199 dollars! Maybe an actual 57 Les Paul special
Sounds good to me and you really looked like you was having fun. Great demo.
I agree, Trogly should make that his number one guitar for playing, practicing, and gigging. Maybe then, Gibson USA will come out with a Signature Trogly version of this awesome guitar like they did for Beato.
I love 3 P90 guitars
Masterpiece
Watching in another time zone tonight lol
Really nice Special like a lot
Should have done a double cut...
Well I like my les Paul special TV yellow alot but I like this one alot more for sure. Not enough to buy it at that price because it's way way over priced. You can buy a beautiful standard much cheaper and much nicer to look at
I like it
Love this thing. Needs to beat production model, if it comes with P90s 🤘
Despite how good it sounds, and how beautiful that color is, ever since I’ve played a proper ES335, I struggle to justify guitars like this that are insanely priced for the sake of aesthetic.
Nice.
Sounded amazing clean, then you gave it the juice and my god!
Can you show me how you use the contour gauge? Im stumped!
Very creamy yet articulate!
I like that though my lp special has a very "d" shaped neck up in the first 4-5 frets making chords uncomfy it did not feel like the rounded the 2019s had this may have changed again igk. I guess try it before you buy it unless your in a guitar desert
Yup!
Spaalllloooooooooooge!
Evening all!!
That is a great sounding guitar in all positions for clean and distortion! That baseball bat neck, tho... thicc
boi !
Really enjoy watching your videos!
The first note you played in this video (on the neck pickup), I said to myself “what a great sounding guitar!”
I’m not so sure about the look of this guitar but like you said this guitar needs to be played on the stage!
Thanks for posting this video. Really enjoyed it as always!
I'll bet that neck is inviting to some really fast riffing around.
