The irony of the “Mr Dealer” letter asking them to not display on windows when that is exactly what made this guitar infamous
Gorgeous burst reissue, the top, the colour, all. And the aging looks pretty well done, much better than the Greenie one.
2:43 I’m not throwing a 22,000 dollar guitar like that 😂
It's already dinged up so it's no worries.
Dude, for real. Troglys a madman
"throwing" ? like omg gravity could suddenly fail and it slams into the ceiling
I'm not holding one so.. 😂
In spite of the very detailed craftsmanship that goes into this type of relic job, it's insane to me how much money people will pay for something like this. Working somewhere like Gibson doing the aging seems like it would be a really cool job, though.
I'm buying two and putting Slayer stickers on both of them.
Put a Possessed sticker on the other.
you could buy a new car for the price of those two guitars
People never seem to mention that Ed King was in the Strawberry Alarm Clock before he was in Skynrd. At least not anymore.
☮✌🏼🕊
Ha, that name just reminded me of Chocolate Watchband 😂
@@infinidominion Chocolate Watchband was the inspiration for SAC name.
Right and he was already a good player by then In the late 60s when he was only In like his early 20s. Just a natural!
Love Ed King …RIP Ed 💐
It’s nice.
It’ll look good on some blues-lawyer’s wall.
What's a blues lawyer

@@HALWASRIGHT 😂 I have 74-guitars … I’ve sold all of my Gibson’s, because they’re for rich hobbiests, who can’t play.

lmao
As a 1959 model myself, I'd say the distressing is spot on. My body and neck resemble that almost to the tee, lol!
Beautiful replica. Trog, your playing and choice of riffs has gotten nothing but better and better. And from what I can tell from a quick couple of hops - that strap is a $1200 *minimum* before you add the custom red eye or blue color in!
Those SAVAS Guitar Straps have a MSRP of $1295 (made from real Alligator)!
Looks like Gibson went with the cool strap instead of the case.
I feel like at this point they could've added 2k to the price without anyone batting an eye to also have the real Calton Case. They probably should've done this too bc the reissue chainsaw is a cheap look.
@@andrewgabrielmusic I 100% agree with you. I would imagine many of the new owners probably will purchase a Calton Case for their new Redeye's (I would).
@@andrewgabrielmusic QOUTE: "I feel like at this point they could've added 2k to the price without anyone batting an eye to also have the real Calton Case." Ya' think? 😫
It still has the “R9” stamp in the electronics pocket because that’s all it is. It’s hard to justify those prices(standard R9) even, but considering all the hand work that goes into them, it’s almost believable.
This however, is not. A fool and his money….
I guess they don't have to justify their prices to you and if someone wants to blow such an amount of money that they earned on anything, who's business is it but theirs?
You sound like a jealous kid.

Not worth even one-half of the retail sticker price $22K. Indeed, I wouldn't pay more than $10K for that guitar. The substantial amount of "tear out" in the control cavity route is shameful. And it's indicative of inferior quality tone wood. Just imagine the guitar's neck with "tear out" in the area of the truss rod route! That's what you can't see. Gibson is literally putting LIPSTICK ON A PIG! 🐽
Bravo Austin🎸I saw the video of Ed King showing the Original RedEye to a Collector before it went to Carters Shop. It had a Double Cream bobbin PU at the Bridge & a Zebra at the Neck. Supposedly they were Custom made by Whizz Pickup Company to amplify the Reedy sound of the Guitars acoustics. Apparently Whizz made Ed happy in that respect. I saw Ed playing the rhythm parts on Freebird with a LesPaul. Not sure if it was RedEye but it sounded amazing✌️😎☯️
They are exactly as the original pickups. Color configuration and all. ;)
I have them in my r8 amazing pickups
I am consistently amazed at the quantity and quality of this channel's output, done apparently with a staff of... one.
Cool guitar. Thanks for sharing it. If the owner loves the guitar then it is definitely worth it.
My mom bought one kislux and she loves it. It had been there for over 10 years when she went out with it.
Too expensive... but BY FAR the best sounding Les Paul you have ever had on the show !
My mom bought one kisluxbag and she loves it. It had been there for over 10 years when she went out with it.
Austin, once again, as a long time fan. Thank you for all you do.
I hope to visit your museum. You are such a wealth of knowledge. And you sir, can pick.
14:10 regarding the splintering in the cavity, I 100% get what you're saying. I'd be a little annoyed too, BUT what does the cavity of Red Eye or another LP from this era look like? MAYBE that's a nod to the originals. Obviously that would be insanely hard to recreate the exact splinters, but hey, just a thought :)
I just kept saying wow to this one as it was gone through.
What I don't really get, is why Gibson don't put these pickups in the normal Standards etc? That bridge PU is clearly nicer sounding than a normal Standard, why? That's what they sounded like in 59, why not now? - I don't get it.
I'm right there with you. The pickups seem to sound exceptional ...but it's a damn pickup, it can't cost any more to make. Why not offer them to peons like me a reasonable price, and put them in the standard guitars?
There is no reason, they could literally make all the guitars like this. They purposely dumb down the regular ones, so people want this type of stuff.
@@tbdog99exceptional things in life cost more money. And if everyone could afford it then it wouldn't be so desirable.
They now put these pickups in the new Epiphones which is kind of crazy. Putting them in Gibson USA stuff is one thing but I feel like they should be more exclusive than Epiphone.
@@tbdog99 So to get a 'Standard' similar to the likes of the 59's etc, you have to buy an R9? - In which case, an R9 is a 'Standard' then?
Beautiful reissue 👏🏻🎸
Really nice looking and sounding 59 reissue 🤘
That back pup toggle cavity cover is really cool. DO they just swell those. I checked the Logos website and it seems to be a custom order company. You should negotiate an affiliate link with them. I want one of those.
So it was written, and so it shall be done! 🤲
How can we tell in the future of the pick up is a custombucker or a 57 classic? The base plate is the same!
Hi trogly! Great video as usual. I just wanted to ask you if you can play with the volume knobs when you demo guitars like this. Remember in the 50s there werent 2 channel guitar amps. They would just roll down the volume knobs to clean it up. I see you play with tone knobs but never clean up w the volume knobs. This is the way i play and bot a lot of youtubers cater to this old school approach. Keep rocking
This in my opinion is the limit of these demos. It doesn't make much sense for these guitars to play them with the volume always at 10 and use amplifiers with a highly compressed drive. You would also need an amp with good dynamics to understand better.
Perhaps one day Trogly will have that "A-Ha!!" moment while playing through a Fuzz Face with the volume rolled down to 1/3... but I won't hold my breath.
That's damn convincing Tom
I appreciate your sacrifice, dude. I'm thinking it kills you to have to embrace all these Knicks and dings:) I love it!
Costs twice as much as my car. Lol i would never play it or take it out of its case
That fret board looks amazing
Why, are you afraid of dinging it? 😂
22k and no signature on the COA???
Jason coulda signed those when he hand selected the tops.
Crazy.
These aren’t Isbell signatures, he’s just the owner of this famous burst. I think him helping with pickups and tops was him making sure they got it accurately.
@@AlecBoyd The COA call's it the "Jason Isbell 'Red Eye', and Kirk Hammett's Greeney COA came with a signed photo so there is a precedent. I guaranteeI Isbell didn't do this out of the kindness of his heart alone, either.
@@oldghostbilly That's a good point
That guitar is a custom version of a $1,295.00 (YIKES!) Savas guitar strap.😲😳
Yeah, Gibson chose the expensive strap instead of the custom case.
Cool looking strap (as it should be for that price).
Pretty much every custombucker set I've played has a muddy neck and amazing bridge. I wonder if the underwound custombucker is an improvement in the neck.
Not custombuckers. These pickups were designed from original red eye set ;)
No way I’d buy a $22K guitar! But I’m with ya on that bridge pickup-it sounds killer! Great treble, definitely one of those PAFs described as a “big Tele”. I didn’t like the neck pickup so much; it doesn’t match the bridge very well. Too muddy.
An L5 or Hummingbird with a genuine history and vintage might be worth that, but no way I'm spending even $10k on a re-issue "replica' (self-fake, effectively) of anything that Fibson decides to flog at us for a sucker-buck.
There are a ton of fantastic R9’s with superb tops for
Its the Brazilian rosewood that commands premium prices. Even a regular ol' non limited edition R9 with Brazilian board is 12k-15k used
Unless you bought one of these, you've got nothing to worry about.
Thanks for explaining the joke on the hang tag
Those pickups. Holy wow
I know.....for that price they should sound a lot better.
@@carlcarl6032 cmon! They sound great!
@@drzecelectric4302 I know....I was just picking at ya cause your comment sort of left ya open for a joke reply....just havin a little fun.
Designed from original red-eye set.
Gorgeous Les Paul. 😊
That's a great story of the original 59' literally gigging hard to pay for it ' ...that is what it's all about ' ...Red Eye's bridge Custombucker is absolutely the Bees Knees ...and that Brazilian board is gorgeous.
19:05 … lol, what delay/reverb did you throw on that … ? ☺️
Really nice.
I wonder why the rhythm volume and tone knobs don't have the residual red pigment like the 2 beneath them.
First time ever I have seen someone handle a Les Paul and afterward say "It's nice and light."
Wow super nice axe. Definitely not worth it, but it's awesome you can review it for us. Sounds pretty typical like other gibsons. Your playing is definitely improving Trogley!
sounds fabulous cant off hand think of one that sounds better but why cant they put those pick ups in a standard
The burstbuckers sound good to me, but I think you can buy the custombuckers from there pickup shop
Fantastic Les Paul, dude...
17:32 Yes, it’s worth it if you can afford it. Bridge pickup is just phenomenal!
We need a pinkeye guitar next😮
How about a browneye guitar after that one? 😂
Is'bul is how he says it. I know, I know. Alabama.
Two color toggle switch tag possibly because of the legend of the red eye and it being in a window and fading.. possibly
The hide glue construction is what gives it the extra sustain. Everyone knows that
For $22K, I'm EXTREMELY UNDERWHELMED especially in view of the fact I'm NOT hearing anything even remotely smacking of "Ed King Tone!"...👎
I admire the fact that Jason insists on reminding everyone that it was Ed's guitar given Jason's history with Southern rock music, but even the original guitar doesn't scream "Ed King." To the best of my knowledge, Ed never played it any recordings, especially not on the original Skynyrd run, and while Ed supposedly loved it and considered it his best guitar, he left no large body of music of him playing it.
Would love to have one but honestly I would rather spend that money on a Harley.
I already did just that.
Trogley's getting too fancy and high end for us average guitar players. I remember when he never talked about any guitar over $3,000.
Blame Gibson for that !
Yeah, I thought he was getting uppity there for a minute. But he's on the pulse of a ton of stuff , obviously worked hard, and evolved into Master Trogley. Jedi Knight of Les PaulIan lore. True, false, correction . A LEGEND.
All bullshit aside, Austin is a respected, connected, authority on guitar, in general.
Matter of fact , he is Z General , and I would follow him into any concert hall...
Complains about Trogly yet joined RUclips 6 months ago. 😂
Sounds magical!!!
I love this guitar, 59 is my fav but it doesn't begin to get anywhere near worth that price. A fool and his money I guess..😂 weight relieved?
In their wallet, for damn sure 😂
Not foolish, when they go up in value like limited editions usually do.
You know if they put these in that pro case, the price would have been $25k, if not $30k!
Edit: that bridge pickup is fire 🔥
Jason isbell sets his bridge tone on 7, with the amp a bit brighter (to make the neck pickup more usable)
2:42 and you can hear the viewer that bought it dying at that very moment
Ed was a friend and yes ,but it was a price tag!
Every new scratch you put into a relic guitar adds $ 100 to its value !
You used a picture of Ed King playing a Strat. Is there a picture of Ed playing this guitar on stage? He said he was a Les Paul guy but since Gary and Alan both played Gibson's can you switch to a Strat.
LOL! Austin says the pickups are "Pretty Hot" at 8.2 ohms and 7.34 ohms! Give me a classic 70s/80s era Dirty Fingers set at 16.0 + ohms or 500T/498T at 15.0 + ohms anytime over the rest of Gibson's pickups, now that's a "Pretty Hot" pair of pickups! If you want to blow the roof off the joint or peal the paint of the walls, then look no further than DIRTY FINGERS BABY! LOL!
Rubber bands on the strings with 8 gauge false gold strings is a thing too I guess with those poly puke metal and taylored swift players...
Dirty fingers are painful my favorite pick ups. I love those things. 3 Cheers for, whatever ..
PS: false gold or fools gold? I wonder if guitars strings could be manufactured with fools gold ? Ha ha
Resistance that's all.
I just saw Isbell and no red eye 🙁 But it was humid and hot so no surprises, reallly 😂
Funny Mark Knopflers 59 burst has that exact same red eye !
Trogly needs a better amp
He has a Marshall Bluesbreaker reissue amp, which is a great amp.
A lovely and good-sounding Custom Shop guitar. If it were priced $10K less.
I just will never understand paying so much for a pre-damaged new guitar
And not even the real thing, just a tribute to the OG
People complaining about the price couldn’t afford it anyway, it’s ok to not be able to afford really expensive stuff
Back when they were the hot KBD, King got his Dx7 synth fixed at Cintioli Music.
i notice the frets are jumbo unlike the tiny frets on new les paul standards , the frets in the new les paul standards are so tiny how can anyone fork over 3k for one of them
Isbell had it refretted
I think this is the earliest I've been to a Trogly vid 0.o
Just don’t understand the over price !!
I’ll never pay for a faked beaten guitar !!
If you want that look play it till you get it !!
I was a Good Friend of Ed King. and have played Red Eye an amazing guitar however he didn't like the collectors choice versions he said they didn't play near the same, Not sure how the new ones are
I just don’t get it! Why pay $22,000 for a trashed new guitar? I get the, it looks like so and sos guitar but it’s not,and never will be! If I spent that much money on a guitar, I’d buy a real 1960s or 70s one!
Until some time ago, with 22k you could buy a conversion with original parts!
I am sending you all my guitars to review!!
Any discounts on it!
Savas makes very cool leather clothing etc...
It WOULD be such a beautiful LP without the ageing BS...
Having a look through the "Beauty of the Burst" and it goes from "9 0844" to " 9 0905" so it's not in the book (at least not in my issue) maybe the guitar WAS in an earlier edition , and when Ed King took legal action they had to remove it??? Anyone here know the real story about the B.of the Burst book?
According to Ed, he was at a guitar show it was just about closing time when he came across the latest edition of the “Beauty of the Burst” l think he said it was a Japanese version, he was just flicking through the book when he noticed a guitar that looked like his old Red Eye but wasn’t sure, he didn’t want to buy the book as it was an expensive book but took note of the serial number when he got home looked through some old receipts and sure enough it was his old Les Paul 59, in the morning he was first in line couldn’t wait to buy the book and according to Ed the Collector was quite known around the collectors circle and with the legal side of things it wasn’t really a big deal getting Old Red Eye back according to Ed the Collector was very understanding and gracious about the whole thing…….
I’m fully convinced Dirk Ziff is hiding the “Beano” Les Paul in his collection. But I’m a random so take that lightly!
Ok, Trogly, I think I am having a deja vu problem with this video. I swear I have seen this one a month or two ago. I looked but could not find it. Is there another one with the toggle switch tag with the poem?
He reviewed this model on the Gibson website and read the poem in a previous video.
Yes
Savas website has "The Guitar Strap" ahem, cheapest is $695, alligator skin is $1295...for a guitar strap...
You would think that a musician would just want a brand new guitar and that would be the end of it but people think differently nowadays I guess
I was thinking that for $20,000 I could buy a really nice almost brand new car. But, when you think about it, in ten years this guitar will be worth a lot more than that car!
Ed had taken very good care of this guitar.
I love guitars especially Gibson Les Pauls but it must be nice to throw a hundred thousand dollars for so many Les Pauls that would be a dream come true for me
Ed King’s old guitar looks more like a strat in the photo
That's because it was lol
It aged over the years. It was almost new then. My Strat has almost aged to its full 59 LP form. Can’t wait!
THEY HAVE TO DO A "PEARLY GATES". I'D SELL A KIDNEY FOR THAT ONE. 🤘🤣🤘
It is so beautiful.
I choose two guitars that cost $10,000.
I wil take 4 guitars of €3000 and use the rest for a vacation !!!!😃
I'd rather have a trio of handpicked R8..R9..R0 than that one. It didn't sound all that great. Could've been Austin struggling through chords but?...
The case would be great for the USA line but for 21 grand guitar, it sucks 😂
Does it come with a roadie 😅
So the guitar was identified through some guys photo book and the guitar was returned to the rightful owner and the guy with the photos says "you can't see my photos no more". Lame
$22K for a banged up LP? Not for me. I will stick with my $600 LP style guitar which sounds and plays really good. It's a great guitar but doesn't justify $22K IMO.
Bringing "the lick" back.. lol.
Sounds good Trog
Way way too much money, comes down to it. It’s the player that’ll make the guitar sound great😊
Well the collection of paper products that come with it will instantly make any ol joe a pro!
Would love to see your reaction when you get the bill at a Michelin restaurant
To charge over $5K for this thing is more about paying the CEO's bonus (!)
It sounds better at the bridge than my $800 LP 'Deluxe' but the neck is too dirty. I prefer the sound of my '13 Standard that I paid under $2k for.
The other day, I chomped down on a Filet-O-Fish and the tartar sauce dripped on my black Les Paul, the funk is still there. True story. I refuse to clean it now. When I make it big and Gibson makes a $30,000 Collector's Edition, I challenge them to match the fishy funk crusted into the bridge pickup, Tune-O-Matic bridge and tailpiece. Some is even crusted under the neck volume knob. Let's see how good Tom Murphy really is!
Bahahahahahahahaha!!! I can’t wait! I’m a massive fan of Gibson Les Paul’s, but even a bigger fan of filet o’ fish!!! I’d gladly fork over hundreds of thousands for a combo of the two!!!
Did you say it’s now a tuna-matic bridge…..?!
