    I always appreciate folks who make the most of a compact space without jamming too much into a small area. Dave's layout is a fine example of what I mean. Great detail and reasonable scenery with excellent structures. Fine video John! Thanks for this one!

    Wow, what a wonderful layout! The Sierra and the Virginia & Truckee are two of my favorite railroads. I have several books on both railroads. I love to see the detail in which they are modeled here. I am so sad that this layout was dismantled.

      It's better to dismantle a layout like this while you're still kicking so that you can be sure the parts and pieces go to good homes than to leave it up until you can't use it any more, right?

    I have really enjoyed your layout and hate hearing that it will soon be coming down. I have seen many layouts in the past months. I've seen some that were much larger than yours and some that were much smaller. However, let me say this. Undoubtedly, I enjoyed your layout as much, if not more than all others. I hope one day to have a layout of my own, but until then I'll just admire others. I hope you plan on setting up another someday. God Bless my friend.

    Great video of a fantastic railroad. The level of modeling is superb, and it certainly lives up to his self-described "railroad modeler" moniker. Too bad it's being taken down, but it will live on indefinitely in this video. The track plan diagram looks exactly like one drawn up for MR magazine. I looked on their magazine index page, and found the layout was featured in the May 2000 issue of RMC, and the May 2004 issue of MR. We should all find inspiration in building a layout as high a quality and as detailed as the Sierra, Carson, and Truckee!!

I wonder that about everyone's layout, which is why I only build in diorama self-contained boxes which can be connected. Guess I'm just thinking of moving again. All the best! And don't quit!

    John when was this video made? I was wondering if the layout is gone already or if he hasn't torn it down yet. So many beautiful scratch build and craftsman structures. It would be a shame to see them thrown away. If this is happening now I'm wondering if he plans on selling them and if so how to contact him if that's an option. This is an amazing layout. Goes to show you don't need a huge layout to have an emaculant one. I wonder if he'd sell the entire thing? This is one of the best layouts I've seen. It's a shame he is or has dismantled it. Great video. Stay well. 👍

      SierraRailway I imagine there’s someone out there who would be happy to buy the layout, sans models, to transplant into their own space. I know if I was local, I’d be game for that. Something to consider, especially since garages are pretty easy to access :-)

      Bill, It would not be possible to take the layout apart or remove it as a whole. Certain people will have an opportunity to remove any things they want from the layout and then the actual dismantling will begin. Before that I hope to take a few photos for an article in NG&SLG - many of the models on the layout were built using plans that have appeared in that magazine over the years.thank you for the very kind words about my modeling.

    Sort of makes you wonder... If the Sierra actually HAD built to Jackson and up over the pass beyond, would the Amador Central have then pushed their main line over the ridge from Martell to Jackson and built an interchange? The AC as a through railroad would have presented unique possibilities.

    So what was the reason for videoing the lynching going on in the scene after minute 3? Children watch these videos! And shame on you for normalizing murder! 4,700 people died from lynching between 1882 and 1968 with the majority being black and racial related. Infact only 27% if people lynched during that time were white. Of those white people lynched most were lynched by supporting black people or disagreed with lynching in the first place. Your representation of this lynching matches perfectly with the negative ideas of hate in this country. The "boys" who support steam, the tradition belief vs the man who supports dieselisation, the progression of this country. Be conscious of your actions and how they may affect other people. You are not responsible for other people's feelings however you are responsible for your own actions. as a filmmaker I would hope you would have been more aware of what you are posting and question whether or not it was should have been viewed by other people in all age groups. This hobby is shared between grandparents and there grandchildren. We should never be normalizing hate and murder. I hope you edit the video because the modeling is magnificent but over shadowed by a disgusting display of hatred.

    • @tsgmultimedia
      @tsgmultimedia  4 года назад +1

      I can see your point, but I think you are reading way too much into a completely innocent bit of "steam guys" humor.
      I can understand how it might seem tone deaf or in bad taste for all the reasons you stated. I can also assure you none of the racism or hatred you ascribe to it went into the creation or the documentation of the scene.
      If I suspected even a hint of racism I would have excluded it without hesitation. Consider the possibility that it's exactly what it is represented as, and not some cryptic or subliminal message.
      To your point, however, I'm going to think much more critically about these things for future projects. Thanks for the comment!

    • @kylehittesdorf8379
      @kylehittesdorf8379 4 года назад +2

      @@tsgmultimedia "steam guys" humor? Since when is it funny to lynch someone because they believe in something different than you? I'm a steam guy and seeing that in a model is uncalled for. Especially when you choice to film it and put in out into this world. Normalizing murder is not ok. Killing people because of there beliefs is not ok.

      Hollandale Northern & Pacific Railroad
      Thank you for speaking up about this inappropriate and truly tasteless scene. No amount of "humor" steam humor or otherwise will ever make such displays acceptable. This is not the kind of scene we should be perpetuating in the hobby. And, as a media mechanism to share the hobby with the World, TSG Multimedia made a very poor choice in sharing such a scene on their page. Thankfully, the scene was early in the video and I was able to stop watching early instead of continuing to waste my time. I'm a "steam guy". I've operated a number of real, standard gauge steam locomotives in my life. But even joking about killing a "diesel guy" crosses a line with me and apparently others. Again, thanks for speaking up. The World needs more people like you.
