I really like when you actually show the work you are doing instead of just saying “we did an LS swap. So keep showing us your work. Thanks!
Ls swap and ls😗
"Why don't you LS swap it dude? No, I'm not going to LS swap it" - Car Wizard, a few years ago when he first showed us the Malibu lol
The swap will never happen. He’s the king of plans that never make it passed the talking about it stage
Won’t be able to call it the Jagibu. Missed opportunity 😢
@@jtuck6065 haha im no hater but that seems to be the deal. Just blabla no finnish 😂
@@marijnclaesen yep. I’m no hater either. He’s a nice enough guy and all that. Just stating a fact.
Business has a tendency to do that
Damn I’ve waited since the first episode of the v12 chevelle to see it worked on again. That would’ve been a truly unique and amazing vehicle. To go from that to a 4.8 vortec swap is just….. really disappointing for the people who’ve waited so long for that project.
Its a slap in the face in a way because the 4.8L is the inferior motor of the line-up. Only reason people modify them is for boost because they are too lazy to swap in a 6.0.
Wizard, you should buy the PPE cast iron cylinder heads for that LB7 to eliminate the injector cup failure that happens on the LB7s. It’d also drastically reduce the chance of head gasket failure since both the block and heads would be of the same material then.
Claptrap! Wizard don't listen to this idiot
That's true. I seen that I think on Fab Rats channel.
He's selling it not his problem lol
@@agger838 Ha! I thought our top man had the take on this. But I like yours better! (I'ma like his anyway.)
It'll never be easier to detail that engine bay as when the old motor is out and before the new one it dropped in.
I'd do it for you if I weren't 1800 miles west of you
The things one must go through to avoid spending $25,000 on a used pickup in this wonky market 🙃
no seriously though this will be an interesting transformation 😎
Curious how the 1500 suspension will handle the added weight and I’ll also be interested in the fuel system modifications you’ll do. It’s gonna be a nice truck for sure!
Be like having me a 300 lb guy in the passenger seat
The car wizard will have to upgrade the front springs and shocks, for sure. This Duramax probably weighs more than twice what the original engine did.
HUH? you do KNOW the chevy 1500 up to a 5.3 right?
LS weights about 450 lbs. Dmax is more like 900. Iron block with some beefing castings.@@bstory3196
520lbs vs 835lbs for the engines. 133lbs vs 185lbs for 4l60 vs 4l80, dry.
Definitely gonna have to upgrade the front suspension when that diesel gets thrown in there. Looking forward to more videos!
Psh nah man. Free lowering kit 😎
@@Maurbel lol!

You can always tell a good mechanic. They have cars parked everywhere waiting for service
Sometimes it's because they don't do anything or know how lol @@WhittyPics
@@sickvic3909 not concerned that is The Wizard’s situation 😎
But I thought you said LS swaps were boring and a dime a dozen? I get work got in the way but seeing that jag engine in the Malibu would have been real unique. But that’s ok. I’m still glad that you’re saving a good engine. You should always do what makes you happy 👍🏻
I absolutely love the old LB7s! I used to work on a plethora of these, including the injectors. Made me lots of money!
The 4.8 is a good engine
I had a 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche with the 5.3 that was super anemic. I regularly drove same year Silverados with the 4.8 and that engine felt amazingly stronger. Yes, there was a slight weight difference, but it was like going from an 80s Civic to a modern V6 sedan in terms of power difference. The 2001-2007 5.3 on GMT 800 was absolutely gutless.
@@Alex-xi2nz my buddy had a 4.8 in his work construction truck that thing had 350,000 and got the crap beat out of it and ran perfect and strong
Swapping that 4.8L in the Malibu is such a bad choice. Its just such an inferior motor compared to the LQ4/LQ9 and far inferior to the beefier IV Gen 5.3. Both can be found in most junkyards.
@@Dan-gj1hz it’s not a “bad” choice he’s not looking for a burnout car he wants a nice mild daily driver. It obviously powered that truck with no problems. Cleetus had a couple burnout trucks with the 4.8 and a turbo you would never know the difference.
Mrs W is a patient person. I’d have been walked to a field and made to dig my own grave if I’d have shown up with this pickup, then announced the engine swap. Hope it goes well.
unless you are a youtuber, i still think thats a fair call
what is it with all these guys doing what their wife says like she's their mom? some serious simping on this channel, it's embarassing
@@domingorodriguez3077the wife is boss
@@domingorodriguez3077 you must be single or your wife doesn't know your yt account, jokes aside anyone buying that truck like this without W's situation would be an idiot
Mrs. Wizard gets any vehicle that she wants. There is nothing wrong with the Wizard having what he wants.
Love the LB7 I have had 2 of them once you fix the injectors they are great motors my favorite is of course the LBZ but hey this will be a cool swap
Mrs. WEEZARD will require two Ferrari's to make her happy
I really like this truck, the diesel swap is a superb idea! I think it’s going to shine after you have sorted it all. Great video Wizard
Thanks, admittedly, I not diesel Fan any more.
I’m guessing the oldies front clip kit.
There's been times I pondered about the viability of swapping in a Duramax into one of these half ton trucks. I'm genuinely curious about this project, looking forward to seeing more!
Definitely look into installing a limited slip rear diff for this truck, assuming it doesn't have one already. Due to the short wheelbase and most of the weight sitting over the front tires, these trucks will lose traction so easily. That's with a stock motor, too, an LB7 will be insane.
Wizard. I watch most of your videos, so I say this respect. I really wish your videos included much more of you and your team doing the work and much less talking about the work.
I'm really looking forward to this series! I love everything GMT800!
I love these types of projects! And although you have not had the time to work on the Malibu, it's understandable that you could not touch it because you've been so busy, wich is amazing, but progress had to resume eventually and we were all here patiently waiting for it. These are going to turn out nicely.🏆
Mrs wizard beats wizard over the head and tells him don't do it again
Wizard can you and hoovie help Steve on wish channel. Junkyard crawl you and hoovie can help Steve with his medical. 🙌🙏🎯💪
Chat and Wizard... could you supercharge that 4.8 engine that he's talking about...??? Would it be feasible..??
As long as I have watched this channel. I have wondered about the 66 Chevelle. Being a Chevelle fan. I owned a 71 in high school. And after. Somebody will score whenever you finish that car. You're the best Wiz. Chevy LS. Or whatever goes in. Give a me a text sir. Can't wait for this one.❤❤
The gas mileage argument with diesel always amuses me. Cause the damn fuel is expensive, $3.29 for 87 regular vs $4.39 for diesel at the RaceTrack by my exit. Assuming 19mpg highway with the 4.8, you are looking at 17 cents a mile for fuel. Assuming 27mpg with the duramax, 16 cents a mile for fuel. Not to mention how much more its going to cost to fix crap on a duramax, even a pre-emissions one like this. Go compare prices of stuff like fuel injectors and fuel pump vs the gas engine. Or the price of an intercooler, turbocharger, turbocharger oil lines, oh wait you don't even have those parts to break on a gas engine. Newer diesel engines with def systems, dpf's that clog up to the tune of $5000, running costs are a joke compared to a gas motor, even factoring in the bad fuel economy of a big gas v8 in a heavy duty truck.
I would have gotten rid of those ghetto pimpmobile wheels before doing anything else. They are disgusting. I would have them crushed so they can never ruin another vehicle. I just love the proper 15" wheels and tires on Hoovies F250.
BOO!!!!
I was so looking forward to you having that running with the V12. Shame on you. I walk so many of your videos waiting for this and now you're not going to do it. That sucks!
Looking forward to seeing the rest of the truck go together and the Malibu!
I have a gangster parts car from Detroit, it came with bullet holes, upgraded speakers, every wheel was bent, and it smelled like strong cologne. Only 129K miles. It’s a 2011 Mazda6. I already installed the shocks and struts and springs and the headlights onto my 2010 Mazda6. Oh, I still have the engine and trans, and a few of the doors are good and fenders. The 2010 Mazda6 currently has 374K miles and it still runs great.
Diesel? Sorry, I don't get too excited over a clanker unless it's going into a road/hauling vehicle. In my opinion, should have left the V-8 in it.
You're turning into tavarish, bunch of projects that never cross the finish line 100% done.
sad the jag is not getting done
Dude he sold that
Great idea putting the diesel into the short bed, I can’t wait to see it running. The Malibu with the 4.8 should be nice too. 👍🏼
Bullet lugs are the dooshbag flag for sure lol
Gotta trash those asap
If it was my job to swap the engine, I’d remove the core support radiator and wheels 🛞 to get access to the components and engine.
This is a great idea Wizard! I have wondered what would be the MPG on a single cab with that type of conversion.
The GMT800 will always be my all-time favorite truck
Why do I suspect that Mr. Wizard had this swap in mind when he purchased this truck??? 😂
Put an Escalade Front clip on it!! that would be super cool and different!!
Yes, it would be cool...but then a Northstar engine would need to be installed to match the Escalade front clip.
Am I the only one who thinks a duramax in a old malibu sounds cool?
Such a great idea! I am looking forward to seeing more. I have a black '01 GMC w/ the 4.8, Canada built version, also fully loaded SLT. You have good taste 👌
I like this guy. He’s the Mr Rogers of auto repair. 💪🏾
Turbo on that 4.8 in the truck would be wayyyyy better
how exciting!. I cant wait for this series and see the finished result.
It would be cool to throw a Escalade front end on it after the lb7 swap. They made a 1500HD that was 8 lug.
So, you chopped half of the Malibu firewall to fit that motor, now the motor is IN, the transmission too, and yet it's laying around from a couple of years. Meanwhile you are fixing a motorhome bus, and now you want to do TWO engine swaps and throw away the job already done in the Malibu?
Speaking of bad decisions... 🤦♂🤦♂🤦♂
Some would even say, "Questionable" ...wait, wrong channel.
These older Silverado's are great pick-up trucks.
For a second I was convinced a 8.1 was going in it! There’s a guy on RUclips who did the swap in a 1500, boosted it, and put down some insane numbers on the dyno on a stock junkyard block
Rural Vermonter approves this truck
Looks like you have a nice project ahead of you , when it's all set and done how much do you think you're gonna ask for it ? The truck .
Well, you finally did it. You abandoned the very cool V12 Jagelle project... to LS swap it? Why don't you use the money when you sell it to go buy another bus and convert it to a Barbie playhouse.
I'm sad about the V12 Malibu swap though. I was anticipating that getting finished eventually. I get it though.
Wizard is all about excuses these days.
I want a truck like that. Just not THAT one.
Cat eyes are my favorite modern chevy body.
I think a 2001-2002 Chevy HD front end and grill would look killer on that!
No way i want a jag v12 in the Malibu 😭 an other epic engine build killed by the wizard. I was really excited about this one
Wizard is all about excuses these days. An LS in a Chevy - can you even get more boring than that?
It seemed to me that this video was directed toward Mrs Wizard ,so she would not think it was such a Bad Buy after all !
Please leave the bullet holes for character 😂😅😂😅
On another note, take that wife out for a night on the town, she sounds really pissed about this thing. Holes probably came from the previous owners wife 😂😅😂😅
I think you will have 2 unfinished cars, hope not , as would be great content. Good luck.
Look, a Chevy Gangsterado
Truck isn’t even that bad lol
Definitely not, I've seen much worse
@@trentryan27yea lol in Texas that thing would get built so fast 😭 Texas boys love those haha
If he finishes it!
Interesting swap. I think it would be more conversional to shorten a 2500 and put the 1500 bed on it. But i guess if you need to the take engine out to work on it(or have it sitting around) might as well go this way. Glad to hear the Malibu will be finished sooner though. You should enjoy it for some time though before selling it.
Just think an easy 5.3 or 6.0 LS Conversion for BMWs Land Rover Range Rover and Mercedes it would mostly be electronic and mounts.
That would definitely be a moneymaker and save a lot of cars and SUVs.
Loved the Malibu landing! 😅
Great content. Always wonder how the outdoor seating and sunbathing pads hold up over time? Do they need constant care?
So you're adding an enormous amount of weight and complexity to make... 15 more horsepower than the 4.8? And it's still a 1/2 ton that can't tow in the way the duramax is suited for? Doesn't make any sense to me.
3.08 rear end would really make it efficient.
OK…. I’m up! Paying attention. Been wanting to Duramax swap an older Escalade or Denali for some time now.
LS Swapped Malibu
Cummins + 4L80 short bed small cab.
This guy figured out how to make money.
This truck will be fucking awesome.
Wizard your going to have to choose what your going to work on on the side. I dont think you have finished one project. You cant do yahts, old schools, an buses all at once. CHOOSE ONE!!! AND STICK TO IT QUIT MESSING AROUND.
Thanks, oddly, I enjoy “trials & travails “, of build ups:: esp saving ( common sense) from Crusher, safety build up, & classy Work on alll vehicles…. Though have several personal preferences…..from my many, vehicles………
Well, I wasn't expecting that! Smart swap. Don't you need to beef up front suspension for the diesel? It is a bit heavier than that 4.8. It is going to be a fun truck. LEAVE THE BULLET HOLES.
Had a guy come in and buy some parts from my work, and he pulled up in one of these, with the telltale diesel clatter. Curious, I made the comment "I didn't know they made 1500 RCSB with the Duramax." and he told me "You're right, I built it." He actually used a 6 speed transmission and said with the tune he's running he gets 31MPG at 70MPH. He also said he'd been offered $40,000 for it and he turned it down. Lunatic 😂
I wish the Malibu was still getting the Jag V12. That was such a cool idea. Now it's just another LS swapped Chevy from the 60's.
Awesome swap, would love to do this to my 05 extended cab 1500.
Man...S&S 45 over injectors, an RDS 64mm drop in turbo, PPE up and down pipes, a Banks cold air intake and a 5 position sotf EFI Live will make more than you would ever believe. And it's as reliable as stock.
You really need to do High flow up pipes , Upgraded Downpipe, an custom tuning with EFI live! DO NOT leave it stock Tuning you’ll regret it man.
Step one: a couple of Hongkong exhaust blenders, step two MickeyThompson slicks on Weld beadlock. Done.
Really disappointed we won't get to see the Jaguar V12 Chevelle completed! But I completely understand your reasoning.
I never like the CAT eye look. The HD front end off a 2000 GMC or Silverado was the best-looking nose when coupled with a bolt-on Step-Side Bed. Ummmm!!
Car Wizard for president 2024 🙌🙌 “MAKE IT WORK AGAIN” 💪💪
The Fat Bob Gables has the coolest walk at the karaoke bar. I'd love to see a continous loop video of him just waddling around on his stubby little legs while singing with me, singing for the years, Aerosmith's DREAM ON.
Definitely goes into the who gaf scotty yt bs. Wouldn’t take $30k for my slt bighorn 81k. 2” spacers ram 2500 rancho shocks $3000 sound system stock alternator smooth as glass.
I had this dream for my 04 GMC Ext Cab z71 just couldn’t come up with the money for it and had to end up selling the truck
Am i the only one thinking LB7 chevelle instead????
Either way im looking forward to watching.
I'm sad about the Jag V12, but I totally get it. There's just no way the Jag 12 will go smoothly without a fight, having to adapt and custom build everything along the way. I have an X300 XJR and it loves to put up a fight to do basically anything.
No offense man, but I'll be surprised if this project gets done, you've had a lot fall by the wayside. I know you get busy, but I'll be surprised if you get this done.
Wiazard I still have one T H 350, it’s in my 70 c10. I had others, they were all stolen. I also have a power glide in my 63 impala. Use the one you have, it will probably outlast the what ever is in that pickup. Also I need to straighten out my RUclips, my phone was lost and I haven’t got everything back together yet
I'm still waiting for the Malibu Jag V 12 engine swap to get finished....apparently I shall be waiting for a long time.
That truck is going ot be seriously nose heavy. LB7 weighs about 900 lbs - LS is about 450lbs. I would beef up that front end and maybe put some weight in the bed to help keep tires planted.
How about lb7 in the Malibu and v12 in the pickup.........no no no just kidding I love the no cat eye front end that's the ugliest front of a Chevy ever love the channel it was nice to see actual work
Lol. I think I'd take the "dubious" character over some diesel bro, who's probably going to end up with it eventually. 😅
Diesel swapping that GMT800 is genius. You will have a relatively fuel efficient, fun to drive, head turning power house. That is a lot of engine for a fairly light truck.
With Russia's latest embargo of Diesel fuel to Europe I'm expecting Diesel prices to increase and shortages here in the US. The oil companies will sell the commodity to the highest bidder. How high will the US market go to match Europe's Diesel needs?
Sorry but the Malibu just became uninteresting. Too many of these LS swaps into something like that.... Sorry I know this just my opinion but really wish you would keep with the V12. Just way too commonplace. However not my car as you pointed out in the past and I'll still want to see it.
Malibu LS swap is an ultra-boring bait and switch. How many projects get talked up and then abandoned or revised downwards on this channel these days? It's always explained away with "it's a busy shop and it just makes sense", but at what point is it empty promises? I'm getting pretty close to unsubbing from this channel if they can't finish some projects in the way they were originally described.
Did you find the lower control arm for the bus?
Mrs. Wizard: Buys a hell of a Lexus and gets it fixed for cheap.
The Wizard: Well… watch me 😂
I'm genuinely surprised he's doing a Duramax swap. He always says: "We don't do diesels here!" So this was unexpected.
Car wizzard 2020- im not doing a ls engine swap stop asking.
2023 oh guess what im doing a ls swap. They're amazing and simple everone should do them.
You should get the FICM (Fuel injection control module) "rebuilt". My lly FICM took a dump on me recently and not quite happy about it
