I’d bet it’s as simple as just needing a new AOS (Air Oil Separator) it’s job is to basically collect oil deposits from the engine and collect them and recirculate them back into the oil pan. What happens when the seal fails is oil gets sucked back up through the intake and makes a mess of things and causes all that smoking.
The fact that it cleared up after a bit of running also points to the AOS being the cause. Plus it’s a flat 6 and when they sit forever oil collects in the cylinder and burns off when it’s run for the first time In a while. Good luck!
I was thinking the same thing. I recently did the AOS on my Boxster and it was time-consuming, but not particularly difficult.
Alex...it always amazes me how you turn these cars around. The paint and Carrera stripe kit etc.improved looks tremendously. Son is going to want that one!
Cars aren't my thing. I love your enthusiasm and enjoy your car projects. Just love your content period.
no doubt that car looks amazing 👍
I was surprise how much the new wheels upgraded the look of the car. 😊
Another sweet ride from your garage Alex! Well done!! 😊
Came out beautiful! The paint looks superb and the rims really make it pop. Hope you have fun with it when the deep freeze is over.
Sweet Ride ! , Good job Alex 👍
That smoking is the AOC Air Oil separator. Great restore on this car. Looks outstanding.
This car is fantastic! The houndstooth fabric would be extra icing on the 996 cake! It doesn't need a thing.
That turned out very awesome!! I absolutely love the wheels you put on there. Great job!!
They might have dumped too much gas stabilizer into the fuel which will cause it to smoke until it's diluted or burned off.
Alex you have a air oil seperator has failed from porsche they are around $160 US for a factory one or less than a hundred bucks for an after market one very common problem on this era porsche replace it run it for about 20 minutes to get rid of oil residue in the system and alls good on the oil smoke hope this helps JR GARAGE bought a porsche like yours with ths same problem replaced the AOS and fixed the smoke cheers from down under
Or more commonly a cracked cylinder sleeve
I had a similar issue with my old Cayenne Turbo. It was the membrane on the air oil separator. Porsche would only sell a whole assembly for $900. Looked in the forums and found a guy in Eastern Europe that sold me the membrane for $20 shipped. Problem solved.
Great video Alex! I am an old lady and not at all a car guy, but this was fun! well done!
You can make any car look good. Love you Chanel.
Great job Alex. Looks cool. Though the houndstooth cut in would look more classic and warm. Another Genie out of the bottle❤😊
Wow Alex, the car is beautiful! Well done to make this old car look brand new.
The Porsche came out beautifully. You sure do work fast too !! 😍
Well worth the investment ❤️💚👍🇬🇧
Looks Fab, well done, and well worth that extra "over Budget"
Im not even interested in cars, but I'll watch this series because of your love for and enthusiasm for cars!
Same here but my Dad was a mechanic so I do have a knowledge of engines and cars. Maybe that's why I watch, memories of my Dad. 😊 RIP Dad. 🙏
I like the cars way more than I thought I would. I look forward to em. Not huge fan of toys
What a little beauty! Sigh...lol Thanks for sharing this little gem with us, Alex.
It looks brand new... Another Awesome job well done ... !!!
Paint turned out nice!
what a beautiful sporty car, love the red
Looks great Alex!!
Wow. Fantastic work and was great to see the whole journey. So lucky the smoke problem disappeared, a rarity with cars. 😂
I am thinking that Melissa is hoping Alexander will go back to collecting 1:64 scale Hot Wheel Red Line Cars.
These 1:1 Scale Cars he is collecting now is a lot more expensive.
???
@@GuyWithTheDogsAlex collects tiny model cars not full size cars, although he has some.
@@lparky4409 That was not my confusion. I know the difference between full size cars and toys.
Alexander,
Classy car, classy guy!
Cheers,
Rik Spector
Please put a spoiler on the rear over the engine just to complete the looks....you definitely put the right wheels on it. Thanks for another great video!?
Congratulations on getting something that makes you smile like that ❤❤❤❤❤
Do the interior! I’ve just done exactly that to mine and it makes a massive difference. Totally transforms the car. Takes it from a pretty drab and dark 90/00’s interior to something really classic yet contemporary at the same time.
Beautiful 996👍🏻👍🏻👌🏻
Well done!!
amazing transformation...so much better...I think the fabric insert on the seats would be the icy on the cake...so since it is inhouse for the winter. it would be a good time to take the seats to upholsterer, Just my opinion which I have because you just educated me. ( thinking of that new car )
Those wheels! Delish! Great u painted it too❤
The rims totally make this car! Good job!!
What a sweet little car
MINUS SIXTY DEGREES ?!!!!!!......yeeeeeeeikes ! .....car looks amazing :)
I never understood the big deal about "rims" until seeing this video! WOW what a difference it makes! I always learn something about taking care of cars from you that I could try myself. Just cleaning and dusting under the hood make such a difference if you need to top off your windshield fluid. I will have to look into that leather dye because I am just amazed at how well that worked.
Love you classic car videos. You have exquisite taste in cars.
Great job! Love this project.
🙋🏼♀️👍🏼 You have the magic touch!
You know how much I like watching you play with your cars!
Great Job Alex!
Great job. Looks great!
Well done Alex. You made a very shrewd purchase. It can only go up in value. And you can get pleasure from it as it does so. All the best, Mart in England.
Wow looks incredible ❤😊
Beautiful job! Really sweet looking ride now! Those graphics add the perfect touch too.
Wow! What a beautiful car.
I am loving full project videos❤
😀 The folks at Graveyard Carz could have made an hour episode out of applying those decals.😀 It looks great!
Love the transformation!
I don't know, Alex...Stephen may be ready for an upgrade!
My Porsche is double black, but the pepita (houndstooth) interior trim goes back to the Porsches in the 60s and I think looks very classy and fantastic! Totally worth it. Also, look into a duck tail to really complete the look!
2000 ? In 6 years, it'd be classified as an oldtimer here in my country. I find your passion for cars fascinating, even if I don't understand it. Stay awesome!
Beautiful work.
Came out beautiful
That is one fine looking car. ❤
We need an updated garage tour of all your cars!
I never thought I’d say this but the 996 styling is growing on me👍🏻
What a nice job on the car! Still would be a pinch nicer with a little houndstooth action...stay warm guys!
great build!
It's beautiful. I love it.
Awesome looking car, congratulations on the new old look. I love it.
That soft touch of vintage styling that you added really gave it a bit more of character, It looks super sharp. I plan on getting a porsche when I'm in the position for it, I would really like to find a 996 also. I happen to be a big fan of them headlights though I believe the 996.2 sharpened them a bit after removing the bottom lights. Pinky Lai it's designer took some inspiration from the Porsche GT1 Evo F1 racer which predated it's design.
Wheels look great and paint shop deserves a plug!
Thanks Alex!
WOW, that is perfection 🥰
My goodness, the car is beautiful! I personally like it much better than the new one in the showroom. And you got a great deal on it overall! Nice job!
I am not really a fan of exotic cars but think you did a great job making this one look better. I would rather have a 50's or 60's car. I do love the videos that have have the old toys.
Dear Mr. Archbold.
👍👌👏 Congratulations 🎉 for getting this Porsche that cheap. Usually the clear coat disaster was caused by problems while changing to water based colours at every vehicle manufacturer in Germany respectively all over Europe. My 1998 Mercedes W210 is looking horrible meanwhile. But a paint job would be way to expensive for what the car is worth. 2) At the last auction that Silas, from "Adventures from scratch", went, a running and driving luxurious red Jaguar convertible (out of the 1990s) was sold dirt cheap (1200 USD if I remember correctly). A bit neglected but still a great car. I instantly thought that that this would be a great vehicle for one of your famous makeovers respectively restorations. Please kindly allow me to ask if you will invest the time to watch some minutes of the episode because Silas answered my comment and said that vehicles like this come to his scrapyard from time to time. Just because nobody is able to handle them. Maybe he has even something interesting for you in the future. Although his and his fathers scrapyards might be a bit too far away from Edmonton. Sometimes I forget how enormous big Canada and the USA are in comparison to Germany and even Europe.
Thanks a lot for making explaining recording editing uploading and sharing.
Best regards luck and especially health to all Archbolds.
Looks Great!
Wow Alex the car has turned out beautiful. It was worth every penny. I love when you do the car videos. Thanks for sharing.
I had a 40th Anniversary and loved it for its narrow-bodied, understated look. Yours looks superb. Great job!
Wow, the things you know how restore, blows me away! Love watching you, youre a great person too; that's what I admire the most! Sending those old family photos to the relatives in Oregon...really got to me. I live in Oregon too (Eugene). I have little interest in cars but I do have a Porsche story. My husband had an old one that he wrecked...he sent away to Germany for all the missing parts. It sat for years but we didn't have $10,000 to have it fixed so we sold it to the president of the Porsche club. That was about 1983. It was a 1960 Super 90...yellow.
Simply beautiful.
Great looking car! Nice job!
Awesome video!!! Great job on the car.
Beautiful job!! 💖❤💘💝💓I love watching your videos, thank you for sharing and have a great evening!
Well done 👏
At first seeing the smoke I thought bore scoring but that never fixes itself. Fried egg headlights never bothered me. Think about joining Porsche Club of America, you get a great magazine every month with very interesting stories and technical articles, also you get a discount on parts from Pelican parts. Enjoy the ride.
looks great!
Such a simple little project. But the small touches made the car classic cool.
Very nice , that looks great.
Glad you got it all fixed up. Keep Safe❤Keep Well ❤
Beautiful car!!!
Guessing, about the clear plastic that flaked off the front. Maybe the car company (or purchaser) applied a clear “Wrap” on the red paint.
looks awesome
Kudos Alex! The car turned out fantastic. I thought you would have mention how much in the end you put into the car? I’m sure it’s much less than the $30K you had planned on. This was such a fun & different video. Thanks so much for sharing it with all of us. Wishing you Melissa & the kids a safe & fun weekend. Even if it’s all at home.
He did, $24,000! Plus his purchase price.
@@kenc1800 *including*, you mean
@@kenc1800 Thanks, somehow I missed it.
@@kenc1800The note he showed said that price included the the cost of the car (was in US dollars).
Beautiful car!
Looks really good Alex! It would be fun to see this one sitting next to your vintage white 911 for a compare and contrast.
Cool Car 👍🏻
Nice… very , very nice!!❤
Beautiful car, Alex! ❤
great job
Great job! I love my 996.
Alex, replace your AOS “Air Oil Separator “. That’s the most common cause of the smoke on that engine.
Tint, wooden shift knob, and that houndstooth. Nice project! Amazing how the 996 can go towards retro or contemporary with the right mods.
Looks great!
