Dean in Missouri. Thanks for the advice. Just starting out. Signed up with Librivox to gain experience and get advice. Just stumbled over your channel. Good to hear from proven producer. Key takeaway: 10 a day until 2 books, wash, rinse and repeat when finishing book 1.
I had a terrible experience with ACX. You have to filter out the fake authors bc ACX doesnt. I had an entire book recorded and uploaded. I even invested in hiring a credible "pro editing company" bc i wanted to ensure my first ACX product was perfect. The production company eneded up being overwhelmed, late on delivery and the production editing/mixing ended up being terrible quality. ACX denied the submission and i was out endless hours and my monetary investment. A real gut punch to my hope in being successful with Audiobooks. Lesson learned. Hope others have better experiences.

I’m really glad I watched this. I had no idea I would have to audition 150-200 and be lucky to get even one job. I don’t have 6 months to wait to get a job. Very depressing but knowing the truth and how impossible it’s going to be to get work in this field is really helpful so I don’t waste valuable time. It sounds like very very very few will actually make a living at this but if you don’t really need a job you could do it for a hobby and make a few bucks here and there. I’ve watched about 7 videos on VO work today and this one was more informative than all the others put together. I’ll just have to try something else. Thank you.

But th bad thing is that, in France, ACX is not available (yet?) 😔 So I am looking for alternatives ... 😓 If you got any clue ... 😅

Bill, if you decide to do a pop-up session in the UK or Europe, be aware that you'll need a special visa to do that. If they find out you didn't get one first, the usual think in the UK is to ban you from future entry for a period of time.
