Once I've used my current demos for a little while, I will do what you did and get it professionally made. Thanks for great content x
I'm receiving mixed advice about breaking into the voiceover industry. Some suggest that I should invest in acting classes for a year, then have a professionally produced demo, network within the industry, and eventually secure an agent. They also claim the VO field is becoming saturated with individuals offering poor-quality recordings and working for free or low pay, which they believe is damaging the profession. On the other hand, others, including yourself, suggest a different approach, emphasizing that it’s possible to succeed independently. My question is: What is the best course of action to successfully break into this field??
@Shannon_Robbie i say trust your gut, the information I give is the path that worked for me. If someone sounds embittered to the industry, is that someone you want to follow? There is no right or wrong way about it. This isn't like the field of medicine or engineering where you need a certificate and permission to work in the field. So, the most beneficial thing you can do is know yourself. What kind of approach attracts you? Do you feel too nervous to jump into the deep end without training? Or do you like to hit the pavement and figure it out along the way? I will say there are plenty of actors who get in class and stay there forever, because it feels safe and it becomes a crutch to them never just getting out there and booking gigs.

Hi there! Thanks for your comment. I would say get very clear about what aspect of being a voice actor excites you. Whether it's doing fun voices, or feeling like you are able to express your authentic self in different ways, or bringing a script to life, etc. Then when you have moments of feeling overwhelmed with how much further you feel you need to go, or not knowing what to do next to grow, or even if you do get some anxiety about all the rejections, you can remind yourself of why you chose this in the first place and realize that you can find the fulfillment at every level of the journey. You're doing it for fun, and when you feel like you're not having fun, it's because you're getting wrapped up in the wrong things. Refocus back to the fun part and do that for a while until you get your enthusiasm back for the rest of it.
Hello Anastasia. A quick question. How many demos do you think are appropriate to start out with and should they be varied in subject matter, style etc...?@@nastasiamarquez6472
Some pretty interesting tips here. I committed to getting started in VO last month and I'm trying to get comfortable with auditioning and recording with my new equipment. I've also been reading "So You Want to Do VO?" by Rob Marley which helps set expectations for newcomers and gives some pretty sound advice, although it advises against making your own demos. What do think of sites like Casting Call Club as a starting point?
This is ace, I speak 7 languages and I recently found out about voice acting I want to thank you for this advice I already have the equipment so, I best get on with producing samples
Thank you so much for a wonderful tutorial. I am setting up my Cartoon Studio and I gathering info to design my voice over part. Your tutorial is honest and pretty straight forward. Simply Fantastic. Thank you. You are wonderful. Cheers.
What you're describing around 3:20 isn't soundproofing, it's sound absorbtion (AKA sound treatment, or sound dampening). Just thought I'd mention it so people dont get the terminology mixed up when they're just starting out.
Wow! Talk about fate. I'm wanting to make a change with my online biz (it ain't producing the way I want). The last couple of months, I've had people, who I didn't know, who heard me talk online asking if I was a voice actor person. (I do podcasts and videos). I didn't even know that was a thing! Today, just randomly, I was researching other types of online gigs and watched a video where someone was talking about ACX. Went to that site and looked around. I came back to RUclips to see what was being said about it and this video popped up! LOVE IT! LOVE THE INFO! Now, you have got my created juices flowing on this voice over thing! Thank you!
Thank you for all your information. I have a 9 year old daugther that has been randomly approached by different people saying they feel she should consider going into voice acting. I'm trying to help her by looking up information about it but aside from that I truly don't know what the first step is. Any suggestions?
I know this is an old video, but I've been watching so much content on getting into VO/VA work and I really enjoyed this video. I'm currently saving for a Shure SM-58S bundle and a Focusrite Solo interface. Looking forward to diving into this industry, even if it only becomes a hobby.
Hi, I would like to know what made you choose this mic? it's not really intended for voice over. The scarlet solo or 2i2 are good but a Steinberg c12 will do the same job for half the price. The great scarlet stuff starts with the 4i4 (I read benchmark about it). Careful with the XLR cable. I disagree with her. Don't go for a cheap one, it might create noire or distortion. Go straight away to a magami gold and keep it forever 😀
🥺 I bought the mic and the lexicon alpha, but unfortunately the mic is a condenser mic so it needs a phantom power supply (whatever that means)? So I had to return it for another interface.
You see I have this newly realized dream of becoming successful in the entertainment industry (I’ve just realized that since I didn’t know what to do with my life, something that has always been there and something I love is entertainment and it makes sense to me). I wanna get on this particular show but I’m far from it, hopefully I can one day! Thx for the starting tips.
Hi Nastasia, I just had someone on Instagram that I shouldn't bother getting equipment, demos or (cheap) website. Till I have Professional voice training.
Thank you! I am trying to get my stuff going and you really helped me. My teacher swore that audacity was not acceptable for any professional jobs and there you are explaining the contrary. I knew it! Ok. As for the mic I did buy a usb mic and I sent her samples and she says it sounds great but that she could hear noise..( I have no insulation) duh! But I will return that mic and get the setup you proposed. Thanks for Canada!
I know this video is a few years old now, but you definitely gave me a lot to think about, thank you. I’m visually impaired and not quite sure if someone like me can even make it in the industry, but hopefully I can figure it out.
I've been doing voice acting for 3 months, and one of the problems is my audio just isn't good enough despite me buying a $80 microphone, I had no idea usb microphones are so bad :'(
Hi Natasha I just love your video! You give such great information for someone who wants to get started in this business. I used to sing for the New York City opera company when I was in my teens. I am now retired however I have always thought about doing voiceover work and I used to know someone growing up in New York that did this type of work and Loved it. I am a soprano and often when I speak with people on the phone they think that I’m a teenager because of my high pitched voice. I also can do a lot of children’s and cartoon character voices such as Elmo. Most people say I have a decent singing voice. So I am going to take your advice and give this a try thank you so much! Sincerely,SO
Cheap treatment that I use is Harbor Freight packing blankets. I did set them up so most of the wall is 4 layers of blanket thick. I don't think a single layer would be good enough. I put 2 layers of 1/2 inch drywall on the outside of my closet. It's a bit on the small size. It's 33 inches deep and 60 inches wide. The door is only 24 inches wide. Right now with the cold weather no ventilation is OK but this summer I'll have to add an AC to keep me from dying in my tiny studio.

Yes! How did you know?
@@nastasiamarquez6472 I was reading Lisa's page on the BanG Dream! wiki and you're already listed as her voice actress. I googled your name and found your RUclips channel. I'm really excited and happy for you!
@@bimbunnny very cool! Thanks :)
Outstanding video. Solid information. Beautiful natural speaking voice. Conveys honesty and trust. I'd buy a used car from you with confidence! You are a star!
Thank you so much for sharing this video!! Would you say voice acting is a hard career to get into? I'm a RN looking for a career change, thanks!!
Very good video Nastasia! I followed some of your videos today and made my first little demo to show my wife! I was beaming by the end of it, I was so proud. I look forward to dabbling a little more because I've thought about this off and on for a while. Hopefully, I'll learn a lot from the folks you mentioned and your future videos too! Thanks again for posting and keep it up!
You are very welcome! I love hearing others getting started out so keep at it!
My studio is two walk-in closets put together, It's 3x4 foot. The outside doesn't look great however the inside is perfect. Sometimes it's not about the mic but the quality of voice and acting skills.
Yes agreed! So many factors that make a difference.
Great information 🎉 thank you 😊
You're welcome! So glad you enjoyed the video 😊
My brother is an actor and has been on me to take acting lessons for the past 2+years. I receive emails from Backstage and today I actually saw jobs for voiceover actors. I've been interested in voiceover work for many years; which lead me to this video at 3:30 a.m. lol Now's my time to step out! Thank you so much for this informative step by step of HOW to get started!!! I'll provide an update once I take ACTION...Namaste
That is awesome to hear! Best of luck to you.
So in 7 months you haven't taken action
What kind of echipment use today? I m impressef of your start story.thank you!
Brilliant!!!!
Any advice for high anxiety folks? Not so much being turned down but i suppose for feeling overwhelmed by starting if that makes sense?
Excellent video Nastasia. Straight to point and hits all the must haves for sure. Thanks for sharing
You are very welcome!
Hello. Thankyou for your video! People often compliment me for my voice and yours is the first video I have watched. Thankyou for your suggestions!
You are so welcome!
Hello Anastasia. A quick question. How many demos do you think are appropriate to start out with and should they be varied in subject matter, style etc...?@@nastasiamarquez6472
This looks like a very fun job
Thanks for the information ! It was very, very useful .
Hi Nastasia, it's great to hear you say you didn't even know what an interface was when you first started!! That gives me hope... Thanks👍
Most definitely, and I am continuing to learn so don't shy away from the learning curve(:
Brilliant! I am super green to the industry and know nothing about much of it. Thanks!
Happy to help!
Just got started last week! Put in my first two auditions over the weekend.
And, Doh! I went and bought that cheap foam padding XD
Great video. I’m looking around for your recommended equipment. Prices have really increased a lot since this video was made. Eeeek.
Thank you so much for a wonderful tutorial. I am setting up my Cartoon Studio and I gathering info to design my voice over part. Your tutorial is honest and pretty straight forward. Simply Fantastic. Thank you. You are wonderful. Cheers.
Glad you found it helpful!
Thank you!
That is awesome to hear, we always want to get the creative juices flowing
I want to do it as a side job :) I would love to do voice acting so now im doing lots of research!
Excellent Information.. Many Thanks 😊
Thank you for all your information. I have a 9 year old daugther that has been randomly approached by different people saying they feel she should consider going into voice acting. I'm trying to help her by looking up information about it but aside from that I truly don't know what the first step is. Any suggestions?
Great information!! thank you Ms. Natasha
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you so much for this video. I'm currently working on doing voice acting.
Im proud of you (:
Thank you for these tips (:
🥺 I bought the mic and the lexicon alpha, but unfortunately the mic is a condenser mic so it needs a phantom power supply (whatever that means)? So I had to return it for another interface.
Most helpful VO video I have seen yet, thank you!
That is so awesome to hear. I am glad you got some use out of it!
So much good advice to take here!
I hope one day i can achieve the same greatness as a voice actor you've become. 👏😊
I hope so too!
Thank you I’m completely lost and overwhelmed
Many are in the beginning, keep moving forward(:
I'm a 15 year old aspiring voice actor and this helped me so much ❤️
That's awesome, go after it!
Glad I could help!
Sound proofing, I’m in NYC so noise is everywhere all the time. Looking into everything you mentioned, thank you.
Yes very necessary. My videos with Lenny B go over great options for sound proofing.
Gotta see the sound proofing videos I’m finally totally set up. Your videos are so helpful, thank you.
You are wonderful. Many thanks for your honest contribution
I appreciate that!
I know this video is a few years old now, but you definitely gave me a lot to think about, thank you. I’m visually impaired and not quite sure if someone like me can even make it in the industry, but hopefully I can figure it out.
I don't see why you couldn't make it in the industry! I say go for it(:
I've been doing voice acting for 3 months, and one of the problems is my audio just isn't good enough despite me buying a $80 microphone, I had no idea usb microphones are so bad :'(
Thank you!
great info! Thanks Nastasia!
Any time!
Again, thank you for this information! I'm trying to figure out how to get started.
You can do it!
Thank you for this video. I had a cheap mike, but I just bought at Rode NT1 with an AI-1 Interface.
Thank you, this video helped me. I basically got everything you mentioned. I love your videos they’re awesome.
You are so welcome!
Sincerely,SO
Definitely great and valuable information! Thank you!!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Finally -- a video that shows start up equipment. Thank you.
You bet!
Thankyou your video has been the most help i have found in months.
You're very welcome! I am glad this has been useful
Yes, the heat in that small insulated space can get overwhelming for me too! Great tips
Thank you, Ma'am. Your shared time, experience, and wisdom is appreciated. Have a lovely evening.
Thank you! You too!
Thanks I'm just getting into i love this information you give
You are so welcome
So helpful don't really get vidios like this thank you
So glad this is helpful! If there is anything specific you'd like to learn about let me know!
