The #hondagrom wasn't cutting it for my do-it-all #motorcycle - so I needed an upgrade. Here's my first ride on my first big boy bike, the refreshed #2024 Yamaha MT09.
    KEY FEATURES
    New For 2024
    Aggressive New Hyper Naked Styling
Aggressive next-generation styling takes the Hyper Naked look to a new level with sharper, more defined lines and minimal bodywork. A new bi-functional LED headlamp is now shrouded in a cover, creating a more compact and unified relationship with the redesigned fuel tank and tail section. The new fuel tank also sits 30mm lower for a more forward-leaning stance while maintaining the edgy street aesthetic synonymous with the MT name.
    More Engaged Ergonomics
Already renowned for its engaging riding experience, ergonomics on the new 2024 MT-09 are further enhanced allowing the rider to feel more at one with the machine. In order to achieve this, handlebar position is now lower and features two customizable settings. Newly designed footrests sit slightly more rearward and are also adjustable. Combined with the lower fuel tank design, the riding position is more dedicated and steering angle is 4 degrees greater for improved low-speed maneuverability. Additionally, the new two-part seat design is slimmer for better freedom of movement and an easier reach to the ground.
New Five-Inch Full-Color TFT Display with Updated Switchgear
A new five-inch full-color TFT display provides the rider with the option of four different themes to suit specific riding situations or individual preference. The new display is navigated through all-new integrated handlebar switches. Button shape and feel have been extensively refined to provide intuitive operation in a compact, easy-to-use solution.
    New Smartphone Connectivity
Riders can now link their smartphone to the new TFT display via Yamaha's free Y-Connect app to receive message notifications, calls and listen to music (through use of an aftermarket Bluetooth® headset, not provided). Additionally, full turn-by-turn navigation is available through the Garmin® StreetCross app to make each journey easier.
    New Back Slip Regulator
A new Back Slip Regulator (BSR) reduces rear wheel lock up under engine braking by controlling the level of torque supplied to the wheel. This system shines in low-grip situations or other scenarios when it is difficult for the slipper clutch to perform.
Acoustic Amplifier Grilles for Enhanced Intake Sound
The distinctive roar of the MT-09's crossplane Triple powerplant is one of its most defining characteristics. The 2024 MT-09 features a new two-duct intake design with Acoustic Amplifier Grilles located on top of the fuel tank to accentuate high frequency induction sounds, delivering the CP3’s thrilling note directly to the rider for an enhanced sensation of torque and acceleration.
    New Brembo Radial Master Cylinder
Stopping power is enhanced by a new Brembo radial master cylinder which produces a linear supply of pressure to the four-piston calipers. Paired with large 298mm dual front discs, the MT-09 offers outstanding braking performance with finger-tip control.
    New Third-Generation Quickshifter
The 2024 MT-09 is equipped with Yamaha's new third-generation Quick Shift System (QSS), now enabling quick, clutchless upshifts and downshifts under both acceleration and deceleration. The system has two settings. Setting 1 enables shifting up while accelerating and shifting down when decelerating. Setting 2 expands functionality across a wider range of situations by permitting downshifts while accelerating and upshifts when decelerating. This advanced system makes full-on acceleration more exciting and downshifting faster and smoother with less chassis disruption when changing gears.
Revised Suspension & Latest Generation Tires
Higher spring rates and updated damping characteristics are tuned to accommodate a wider range of speeds and to match new standard fitment Bridgestone Battlax Hypersport S23 tires. Shock linkage settings are also revised, optimizing chassis attitude and weight distribution when cornering.
New Cruise Control & Turn Signal Functions
The new cruise control system can be set when riding 25 mph or more in third gear or higher. After speed is set, it can be increased or decreased in increments of 1 mph with a button push, and can be disengaged by using the cruise cancel button, the cruise off button, brake, clutch, shifting gears or moving the throttle past the fully closed position. Intuitive new turn signal functions further enhance the riding experience. A soft click of the indicator switch will flash the turn signals three times, while a full click will flash continuously. Turn signals will also self-cancel after 15 seconds and once the bike has travelled for more than 500 feet.

Hey Kirk I really like your channel and YOU.... As someone who has lost friends to motorcycle accidents... please please please wear as much safety gear as possible.... D3O pads everywhere.... proper gloves......proper jacket... proper pants.... proper boots... Airbags maybe.... Helite makes a fantastic summer airbag mesh jacket......... FIM rated helmet...... Basically everything Fortnine/RyanF9 says. You have kids you cant be riding motorcycles willy nelly....... That 1-2K dollar spent will literally save your life please please take care of yourself. (remember same goes for your wife and kids if you plan to ride with them)................ A friend of mine got himself and a random 6 year old kid who walked into the road unalived when he was riding. His friend who was riding pillion is in a wheelchair for life. They had half helmets with shitty sunglasses and no other protection. A tightly strapped-in full helmet with proper UV protection would have saved multiple lives that day....

@@chibbyylol Its called risk management. Reduce the factors for a crash, and good outcomes typically occur. While you are 100% accurate that other folks are out there, the times you choose to ride as well as your skill level greatly controls the outcomes.
If you aren't skilled enough to ride with a lot of folks on the road, then riding at a time when less people are around helps a lot aka early morning.
Its one of the main reasons why my rides are done by 9 or 10 AM before canyons, freeways and other roads get super crowded. Once you're skilled, then its a question of keeping increasing time and distance between you and other folks.

I just bought my 2024 MT-09 about 3 weeks ago and I'm a completely new rider. My only motorcycle experience is on the 125cc at the MSF class. Honestly, I'm surprised how comfortable riding the MT-09 is. I started in 'Rain' mode and after about 1 week I switched it to 'Street' mode. I don't really have the need for speed but I do love acceleration. IMO, as a new rider I'd say the MT-09 is 100% doable for any rider with experience on a bike. As long as you ride safely and know your skill limitations this is a great bike to learn on. Both my MSF instructor and a motorcycle dealer who teaches riders told me to skip the "beginner" bikes and get what I want. They were right. I'm glad I went with their advice. I've got 350 miles on my bike so far. A great thing about this bike is that there are settings you can use to lower the power, and as you feel more comfortable/confident then you can adjust those settings to increase its power. I was really struggling on whether to buy the MT-09 or buy a "beginner" bike and I can say I made the right decision with the MT-09. I will say to any new rider, learn as much as you can about motorcycles and invest in safety gear. I didn't just hop on a bike without doing an absorbent amount of research on how to ride motorcycles and motorcycle safety.

Leave it in “rain” mode for 6 mos, and take a class (or 2) to refine your skills. Can’t hurt…can help.

Is it possible that Toyota forgot to clean the engine during the build process or is it negligence or does it smell like sabotage. What do you think?

Had 3 young kids, and after barely missing deer for the fifth time, parked the motorcycle and never rode again! Sold it a week later.

At 6’2” 230lbs, this bike is way too small for me.

You made too big step up from a honda grom. 120ps cp3 is a beast and if you aren't use to it, it can be very dangerous. Maybe not all the time, but it's enough just one time. You said u drove fast cars...you can't compare that. Buy or rent 400-500cc bike and make 3000 miles+ and some training before this mt09.

probably had training wheels until you were 5yrs to. Let the man live his life, I'm sure he is level headed enough. Not everyone lacks control and common sense.
