In this Vietnam Vlog, I finally arrive in Ho Chi Minh City, also known as Saigon, to experience the chaos that is Vietnam for the very first time! We eat some very local street food and chat with many locals, trying local Vietnamese Food along the way, such as Com Tam, Bac Xiu, and Banh Mi in the heart of HCMC, Vietnam.
I learn some Vietnamese phrases from friendly locals at street food stalls, and take in all that Vietnam has to offer in this Saigon Vlog!

Welcome to Vietnam . I am a new subscriber to channel from Song Pha ( a small town in Central VN ) .
FYI the `Egg Cake` you ate is called Cha Trung in Vietnamese , It's made of egg , ground pork , ear mushroom (or black mushroom) , glass vermicelli (or Mung Bean vermicelli) , onions and spices , steam cooked for almost two hours . The bald lady ( currently on chemotherapy ) is a very generous person . She is serving free meals every week to needy people ( homeless , unemployed , poor and sick senior citizens) in Saigon . Her name is Huong .
The Franco-Vietnamese man wanted to tell you that he is on vacation in VN . He said `Vacances` which means Vacation in French .
The Banh Mi you had is actually not the good traditional Banh Mi that is normally served here . Hope you have a good trip in VN . Be careful when you cross the streets and always keep an eye on your valuables because there are lots of pickpockets and bag/camera snatchers in Saigon
I loved Saigon. Was there just before Covid broke out. First day there felt overwhelmed with all the motorbikes flying around, but as the day went by, you realise it's an organised chaos. Seems like a mess but they never run into each other. And the food is super amazing. I didn't even go to any touristy spots... just visited all the food places. LOL Would love to visit again sometime. I'm Malaysian, btw. 👋🏼
Thanks you
Tour guides in Vietnam love Malaysian.
I think your cheerfulness will make you enjoy VN a lot. I'm guessing your joyfulness is a great match for the friendly Vietnamese and it's awesome that you learn and willing to speak some basic Vietnamese phrases. I hope you and your partner have a great time in VN.
Haha thank you!!! We always try our best to learn as many basics everywhere that we go, I had some trouble with pronouncing some sounds in Vietnamese haha! They aren't common sounds in English so it was SO hard but I tried my best!! haha, and everyone was trying to help me 🥰🥰 Thank you so much, excited to show you more of my adventures in Vietnam!! smile😁
So true! Smiley people will always have a fantastic time there
Great intro and aerial shots. Your interactions with local people are to be commended - positive, friendly and everyone happy! Not sure how you could fit such a huge mouthful of food in. 🙂 Appreciated the insurance recommendation and had a look at what they offer- seems appropriate, easy and reasonably priced. Thank you for sharing your super interesting and professionally produced video. Makes me want to go to Vietnam!
Omg love your energy and how you’re so open for trying new things and you’re so cute when speaking Vietnamese!! Your vid makes me soo hungry for authentic Viet food and can’t wait coming back in February. I hope to see more of you and that you’ll make a long series of vlogs in vn🥰 subscribed for sure!!
Welcome 😊 I love the vibe of the video. It reflects exactly the pace of life in our city 🥰 Thanks for your video!
Respect for looking and trying more local stuff. I am subscribed because of that! Keep churning the videos because there is an awesome vibe to them!
Always!!! So much better value - not just in money but in experience 😁😁 there’s a time and a place for a restaurant but not when you first get somewhere and you have things to see and do! 😂😁 thank you so much for subscribing! So happy to have you here on my channel 🥰🥰
Thanks for sharing your experience, great vlog!
#1 Let's get this party started Josie!!
Have fun in Vietnam ! It have good food and now more!
Welcome to Vietnam, Josie! Hope you enjoy your stay. I'm working for NAB (National Australia Bank) in a Development Center at Ho Chi Minh City. I'm looking forward to visit Melbourne one day. My manager is working it out. Your country is very beautiful. I hope it will happen to me. Thanks for sharing your moments in Vietnam. 😍
Hello CPro!!! Thank you so much for watching! I know NAB! They were the first bank I ever had in Australia! Haha, I hope one day you can see my country. It’s beautiful as well 🫶🏻🥰😁
@@koolsam1154 it does say Saigon in the title yes ☺️☺️
I was around Saigon the same time you were there. I wish I knew your YT channel then. It was also my first time in Vietnam and loved the whole experience. Their food was amazing!
love ur video! hope u have a great time in Viet Nam!
I've watched several Vietnam travel videos lately and yours are lots of fun!
"Delicious/tasty" is "ngon." Start with "ng" like at the end of "song" (without the hard "g" sound). Then they'll understand.
The second guy said "số một" ("number one"). :-))
Thanks for the video
You bring back the memory of my hometown.
It has been 12 years since I left my hometown to live in Melbourne and Sydney.
Thank you so much for watching. ❤️🙏🏻
I love the way you enjoy your travels so much. I really want to travel around the world like you. Good luck 🙏
from ur tiktok, great video and love how u love our food, love u so much
You came form my Tik Tok!! Thank you so much for watching my channel 🥺🥺🫶🏻 Thank you so much for watching!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
yay Vietnam! I love it there and can't wait to get back there in Jan. There is soooooo much to see and do, and some amazing adventures are to be had. (read that as, rent a motorbike and tour around). The people are amazing, helpful and fun. The food is fantastic, but honestly your first Bon Mi was really not typical, as you suspected. The street ones are cheaper and larger. I love how you embrace the joy of travel and all the amazing things you encounter.
Hello wellcome to vietnamese!
I already living in Vietnam Rn! I speak Vietnamese 🇻🇳♥️😁
I'm so excited for you to go back! I certainly can see myself coming back to do things I have missed this time in the future! I thought it was meant to be different hahaha! But I ended up having more Banh mi's than I thought I could have in one lifetime 😂 Thank you so much for your compliment, so happy you enjoy my video 😃😊❤
Banh Mi 😅
Thanks for the video. I was in Vietnam back in July. Your video reminds me of the good time I had over there. Saigon is indeed an amazing city

Welcome to Viet Nam. Hope you enjoy your trip!
I don’t know if you are still in VN but there’s a drink called Milo Dam which is crushed milo with condensed milk, boba and pudding. It’s so good!
I love Saigon, I was there in 2017. I would go back in a heart beat.
Same here. I love Vietnam!
(old guy here!) I was in Ho Chi Minh City in October for the first time in decades. I stayed right across the street from that "vertical mall" and Nguyen Hue Walking Street. That City is LIT! So much energy, so vibrant... Going back in February.
Josie .The taste is very nice.( ngon is delicious) . Cơm tấm ( broken rice) .Well done Josie. Love from Melbourne Australia xxooxxooxx

Hi Josie. You've been doing great so far (to me) by trying to eat everything there.... Enjoy your days in Saigon...
Thank you, appreciate your kind words 🥺🙏🏻
Hi I just found your channel and I loved your video on Vietnam. I am from Perth WA and my daughter and I are leaving on the 22 nd of this month to go to Vietnam and your video has helped us on some things to do.😅
Awesome! Have fun, you will love Vietnam!
I ❤ your video. You have such a great energy, perfect
for the vibe there in Saigon
Wish you have many interesting adventures in vietnam. 🇻🇳🇻🇳🇻🇳
We called that Banh Mi Toad, the place that you bought Bánh Mi is where my grandma used to took me when I was little. Now I’m in the US but still missing their Banh Mi
Banh Mi is so good!! I hope you get to eat it again soon! 🥰 Thanks for watching.
First time in Vietnam and pronouncing Vietnam like the locals do . 👏
Thank you!!! I try my best! I struggle with some pronunciation of Vietnamese but tried! Thank you for noticing 🙏🏻🙏🏻☺️😁
This is certainly helpful Josie
Thank youuuuu
The one you ate with "com tam"(broken rice) is steamed pork mince that mixedwith eggs and cruncy mushroom, glass noodles
a lot of people have said that Australian's accent is pretty hard to understand but i do not know why i could understand everything you said in this video 😂
Hey Josie! Don’t forget to try an Egg Coffee! It’s a must!
This was one I was most excited for! Can’t wait for you to see it 😁😁😁
We are on our way there today, very excited
You’re going to love it! 😍😍
@@josieliftsthings we've loved Chiang Mai and Chai Lai Orchid so I trust your judgement 😉😂
Great video. Love how people tried to communicate with you guys even with the language barrier. That bánh mì is a bit small and overpriced. You can probably find one twice as long, half the price, and just as tasty (if not tastier).
Com Tam is literally "broken rice". I LOVE that you guys skipped Com Tam Cali and opted for some street stall. SUPPORT LOCALS, GUYS! WELL DONE!
Welcome to my home town ..and have a good time in Vn
Yiu are so cute. So nice to watching you.❤❤😂😂
I love to watching you. Your video is so cool. ❤❤❤❤😂😂
Wow you was where I was. Love the Vietnamese Coffee and yeah the sandwich is way bigger for 35-40k with extra meat. 😋 I miss Vietnam already. 🇻🇳
7:48 Cơm Tấm, pronounced as "Kerm Tum", "ơ" in "Cơm" is "er" in "Mister" or "ladder", while "âm" is pronounced somewhat like "um" in English like "Sum". Please note that diacritics aka the little signs above the characters (`, ', ?, ~, .) are very important to determine the meaning of a word. In East Asian languages, there are many words with the same sound yet many different meanings, to us Vietnamese, over time we developed a tonal language where the diacritics which denote the tones help differentiate between words. For example, in Vietnamese "ma" is spirit/ghost but "má" is mom, "mà" is but, "mả" is a tomb/grave, etc.
T and th sounds are switched in English. So it would be "thum" not "tum".
If you still in Ho Chi MInh city, you could take a try to district 7. 👋
That’s where my house is located, well, my grandmother’s house to be exact. But I hadn’t live there for years now. I’ve moved to American when I was 8 and has been visiting Vietnam for only 1 month twice. And I’m 21 now.
So nice I enjoyed your video 🥰💚
👍
For the chewy egg with the Com Tam, the chewy thing inside is actually some meat and mushroom (the crunchy ones)
This warms my heart I’m from vietnamese I love Vietnam there
I miss the hot temperature, the coffee, food, traffic, and everything in Vietnam. There are many coffeehouse chains I loved in Sai Gon. The Coffee House: good space for student and young pp; Highlands Coffee: good coffee, customers are a little older; Phuc Long: good tea, La Viet coffee. I think you should try some of them. There are many beautiful coffee shops around District 3. I also miss so many food stores in District 3, District 5, District 10 (especially Su Van Hanh street), Chinese food in District 5, Binh Thanh District with Phan Xich Long Street (the best street for food). Oh, you should try milk tea (trà sữa), trà đào, trà dâu, rau má đậu xanh, chè,… Now I live in New York city with the below freezing temperature. OMG, I miss so many things.
Thank you for all the recommendations! I will keep this in mind for next time. 😊❤️
Love your video !
Hello Josie, welcome to Ho Chi Minh city. From Dictrict 4 with love ❤❤❤
I see you have left our country Cambodia I hope you enjoy Vietnam!❤

its awesome your making videos from vietnam. your intro was awesome but felt rushed. tqke your time introducing stuff. slow down cant wait to see what is next...
Thank you so much!!! I can see analytics on my account and there’s longer retention on a video when things are more upbeat!!! And also that’s generally my style! Haha But I totally get people have different preferences! Can’t wait to show you more 😁❤️🫶🏻🥰😁
Welcome to Viet Nam. Have a nice trip
Thank you so much!!! 😁😁🫶🏻
Thank you, Josie, for sharing the video of my beautiful and lovely city. I was born there and now live in the US. I'm missing it. Enjoy your trip and the food. Vietnamese really know how to make food, don't they?

Chào mừng bạn đến với Việt Nam thân yêu và đa dạng ẩm thực 😍🍴Welcome to Viet Nam
Thank you so much! 😁😁😁

5:25 the word "ngon" has the sound "ng" that is pronounced in a way that does not start with "n". You pronounce "ng" as your lips open wide and retract backward. Like "sing", we pronounce it "see-ng". But if it is too hard, the closest syllable would be "w", for example "Nguyen" sounds like "Gwen" or "Win"
Tiếng việt chú trọng vào thanh điệu ... hãy học tốt các thanh điệu sẽ phát âm tốt
Vietnam is my country! I wish I be there I can show you how can visit with the ways good and cheep for you ! I really sorry I am in America now ! I hope you have a good time in there 😊
Vietnam is such a good place to visit! Thank you for watching!!
Ah, you visited our country. I do hope you had a good time in VN. 🥰
the type of bánh mì you have we call it bánh mì cóc(cóc mean the frog because the shape of it look like a size of frog)
They try to replicate the burger in the west. Same kind a normal bánh mì just different shape.
Sure, Vietnam! It's always great!

I went back myself in October/November after viewing several RUclips vids and seeing how full of life the City'd become. Me? Class of '68.
Languages are important, than what I thought. I been to Vietnam once. It’s hard to understand each other. Very complicated to understand one another. Other than that, it very pretty and a lot of nice people.👍👍👍❤️💕😍😊
