I also bought the model kit you are showing when I bought my corvette in 1978! Painted the interior dash, seats, and steering wheel grip off white to match mine and left the floor pan gray because the carpet is a gray color. My car has the oyster white interior and still has the factory silver over gray paint scheme but badly needs repainting. L48 engine but with the factory 8.5 inch tires and wheels instead of the 6 inch factory tires and wheels.
Thanks for sharing your experience with the Corvette model kit! It's always fascinating to hear how enthusiasts personalize their models to match their real cars. Your attention to detail and customization efforts are commendable. Best of luck with your Corvette restoration project!
I also own a 1978 silver anniversary corvette that I am going to have to start "renewing" shortly. I watched your spare tire carrier video and wondered if you were aware that the OEM lug wrench is also a tool for lowering the spare tire to the ground without having to lay down on the ground to do it. The sharp end of the OEM lug wrench fits that slot in the bottom back of the carrier down from the back support bolt. You can insert the lug wrench into this slot, bent end down to latch it into the slot, lift up with the wrench, and slide the carrier over out of the support bolt after loosening the support bolt, and lower it to the ground. But first, you loosen the back support bolt because it is designed to tightly sandwich the temporary spare tire between the 2 halves of the carrier to prevent the tire from moving around in the carrier. The bolt should be re tightened when the temp spare is put back in the carrier. Just looking at the paint on the spare, you have not noticed that the wide tires and wheels will NOT fit in that carrier! You'll have to carry the flat tire and wheel in the cargo area behind the seats to the tire repair shop. I know this from having done it twice!
"Thank you for sharing this valuable insight! It's incredibly helpful to know about the additional functionality of the OEM lug wrench for lowering the spare tire without needing to get down on the ground. Your experience with the temporary spare tire not fitting in the carrier due to wide tires and wheels is also something I'll keep in mind. It's great to learn from others' experiences to avoid any potential hiccups down the road. Thanks again for taking the time to share your knowledge!"
Great video I just built a tribute model of my 74 coupe using the 1974 MPC kit (tough kit to find). Very fun to build because like you said you already know what everything is, where it goes, and what colors. I did an exact replica right down to the license plate and everything else. I also bought an old glue bomb MPC 75 Vette kit on eBay that I rebuilt as a tribute to the car when I first saw it for sale right down to a mini for sale sign and the previous owners vanity license plate. My rear end is making noises on sharp turns so I should check the fluid level it sounds like the problem you were having. Did you finish your kit yet how did come out?
nice!!! thank you for sharing your story. that sounds amazing. i like you even create the for sale sign! great idea. yep i finished the kit. link here: ruclips.net/user/shorts89_1e75i7Qc
@@3amfoghorngearhead791 oh wow that came out great. I love the tribute models I want to do a few more of the car through the years. I have a picture of it from 1975 with a white vinyl top (go figure 🤷♂️) and Cragars so I definitely want to build that one. I just put up a couple shorts of my models I’m @davebabel9566
