When Georgia won back to backs Paul said they were startimg a dynasty and Alabama’s best days were OVER. Then Alabama beats Georgia in the SEC Championship and Paul says he was wrong. Not knocking Georgia just bringing up that Paul’s opinion is irrelevant. Professional provocateur is all Paul is.

6 months ago Finebaum predicted Alabama would have 4-5 losses after the Texas and South Florida game , he said Tommy Rees was terrible. Ergo, I put little stock in his opinion . I predict, DeBoer will do great at Bama, this too shall pass , the transfer portal .

Sustained relevance is the expectation, and I define that as making the playoff, which should be easier in the 12 team playoff era. If they’re in, they’re at least playing for a national championship.
It's never been about Alabama. There's nothing inherently special about it. It was always Nick Saban. He is the whole driver of SEC dominance. Even Kirby comes from Saban. DeBoer will last two or three years.

We're in a different era. Alabama fans were obsessed with hiring one of "Bear's guys", a former player or coach (or both) and had a hard on for anybody who was perceived as an outsider. And the boosters were running the program. After the success of Saban, who was an outsider, I didn't hear a word from anybody about how his successor had to be one of his guys.
What did Sark build at Washington?
What makes people think that Bama isn't going to reload with transfer players from Washington, Arizona, Michigan and maybe even a player or two from South Alabama? For that matter, when Harbaugh leaves, it will just continue the chain reaction and other schools will be in the 30 day special transfer portal window so who knows how much talent will be on the table? And maybe one or more of Saban's companies ponies up the cash needed.

I personally wanted Dan Lanning because he worked with Saban and was young. Kiffin would have been fun but I think is too loose. Didn’t want Norvelle or Sark. I think DeBore is a great hire. The guy has barely been here a week and hasn’t even been given a chance.

Does anybody think Alabama's new staff isn't going to be able to fill holes out of the transfer portal after spring practice? If you're a DB, you might be able to come in and start, and play TV games against Georgia, Tennessee, Oklahoma, LSU, etc. If you're a WR, you look at what DeBoer's offenses did at Washington (three 1000+ yard receivers last season) and a year of Jalen Milroe at QB probably followed by Sayin, with the WR position coach and OC from Washington. If you're an offensive lineman, you see the OL coach from Washington whose OL just won the Joe Moore award. I'll be shocked if Alabama doesn't end up bringing in a bunch of guys who were high quality starters for other schools.

Interesting take on why Saban is still at the University - promises to players - but seems like a secondary reason. Only reasons I can think of is to become CFB Commissioner or continue participating in recruiting. Recruiting is a real passion for The GOAT!

Why he's still at the university? Because he's said they're still going to live in Tuscaloosa, at least for a good chunk of the year. Because he's not the type to retire and do nothing. Because he cares about the kids he recruited who are going to still be there and wants to see them succeed. Because he worked hard for 17 years building the program to where it is now and wants to see a high standard maintained. Because the administration has always been loyal and supportive of him and he wants to be loyal to them. Because his two kids graduated from the university. Because the guys who played for him still care about the university and the football program and a lot of them return on a regular basis. And there are probably a dozen more reasons.

Personally I would want you to build my own dynasty at my school I’m the coach at. Moving to Bama is not a good move. Look at Smart going to Georgia and building it the way he wants with no one looking over his shoulder plus he didn’t replace a legend and had room for failure.
One thing about the Internet - when you post something it stays out here forever. Receipts being kept by lots of folks. Maybe you're right, but somehow I think conference realignment, tougher schedules, and a lot of other factors are going to show the contrary.

Oregon has a tougher time recruiting just because its located so far from most of the high school talent. Oregon will do well in the Big Ten, but I doubt they would dominate.
DeBoer's toughest job will be replacing Grubb, but you saw what he did with mostly 3 and 4 star players, got them to a natty in 2 seasons. Will Saban get in his way? Sometimes you gotta move on or you'll get stuck.

Fwiw, right now Ohio State is all-in on Day: he is being given every chance to succeed, including the budget to aggressively pursue transfer portal targets. So Ohio State has now signed Alabama's starting center and safety, as well as getting a QB and the leading rusher in the SEC. Half of the draft-eligible players came back, and he hired a big-time OC to replace Wilson (who left for a HC job) to take over play calling so he can handle other aspects of the team. He is making every move possible, while Alabama and Washington lost and Michigan is going to lose their head coaches. Next year the favorites have to be Ohio State, Georgia, and Texas.
The coach at Ohio State who is probably in trouble is Chris Holtmann, who keeps blowing or giving up huge first half leads...

It will be interesting to watch DeBoer based on his resume and how short each stint was. Outside of coaching, when someone is job hopping every year or two, there is no way you can convince me that you actually added value to your company. It normally takes at least a year just to learn the ins-and-outs of a new company before really contributing to the bottom line. Now looking at other coaches that had quick promotions by changing schools, many once they reached that big time job fell flat. All of those quick risers never won a natty though. So his tenure will be very interesting. But beating bama now will not have the cachet that it once did.
Bama is going to see if they bought a program builder or a roster hopper real quick! He left the cupboards pretty bare at UW with low-effort high school recruiting and focusing on short-term transfers instead these last couple of years... covid eligibility had some to do with that but UW only had 15 high school commits on a team that had 22 open roster spots a day ago. They checked out and focused on maxing out this one year on the field and off to the next job. He probably thought it was Michigan (we UW fans did) but his agent played this beautifully, getting all but Lanning a nice new contract just for flirting with Bama.

- Nick Saban never spent more than 4 years at any school before Alabama
- Kirby Smart never spent more than one season at any school prior to Alabama.
Those are 7 of the last 10 champions. Not sure your statement is well founded.

Dabo was at bama from 1993 to 2000 (7 years). He then worked away from coaching from 2001 to 2003. In 2003 he joined Clemson and has been there ever since. Soooo....
Nick Saban was never riding a wave of one hit wonders at each stop.
Kirby was at bama from 2007 to 2015. Again, never riding a wave of one it wonder stops. Soooo not saying I could be wrong but you haven't proven my theory that coaches riding the very short term success wave eventually fall flat.

Alabama cannot stay at the top with Saban looking over KD's shoulder. As good as Saban is, he must let go of the reigns and completely step aside.
Saban knows there can only be one leader of an organization and he can be a tremendous resource. The idea of shutting him out of the program would be incredibly stupid.

How or why would he stop them? Is he going to hand them a pile of money to match the other offers they're getting? He's made it clear he supports the new coach, but this is a new age of college football and a bunch of transfers after every coaching change is inevitable. It can go in the other direction, like Deion basically telling the Colorado players he inherited a year ago to get lost. College football is going to be more like college basketball, where you're essentially rebuilding your roster every year. The days of a guy developing as a backup for 2 or 3 years, then starting, then going to the NFL, are pretty much over. Lanning never got that call, y'all are trippin'. He's been a head coach for 2 years and has lost every big game he's been in. And whatever success he has is due to Phil Knight's money and the stacked roster it's bought him. Bama wouldn't hire a guy who's been a head coach for 2 years and has lost big games due to bad decisions.
Lanning sold his soul to the devil. No matter what success he'll have he will not have "earned it." It'll be because of Phil Knight's money and Nike's branding. If he ever figures it out he'll leave so that he can prove himself as a coach. While Saban got away with favorable transfer rules compared to today, and paying players and being protected by his conference, the feckless NCAA, and a media looking for someone to worship. Saban last won a full championship in 2017, right before the transfer portal rules changed. Covid deserves an asterisk. Once NIL came in Bama's advantages were gone and other fanbases have more money.
I guess we'll all see if Kalen DeBoer can actually build a program and win rather than inheriting something already built with a favorable roster. He's brilliant on gameday and had an amazing culture at UW but his job is 100x harder than he thought it was going to be.

Not on Saban. He did the work. It was up to Alabama to figure out a Libra scale with NIL. They’ve yet to do so. I keep saying it. These other schools have something to offer whether it’s location weather lifestyle money uniforms or whatever it may be Alabama had winning to stand on now there’s several programs that are on the cusp of winning a national championship. One or two plays away for multiple teams. NIL has leveled the playing field unfortunately kids want to not only win but to be paid for being a key piece to the success. It’s going to get worse before it gets better. This is showing that free agency in college football is dangerous. Think about if this was going on in the ages of the biggest dynasties. Would we have gotten the USC team we saw from 03-06 or the UT team with NIL back then maybe maybe not. Schools have to figure out how to keep up with billion dollar brands now and how is the biggest question!

Thinking that the recent HC gave no one any time at all to plan for his retirement. I think Kalen is an explosive offensive coach and Alabama still has the talent ready for development. DeBoer coaching stats are very impressive 104 to 12. Kalen finds ways to develop players to their best abilities and has consistently achieved victory after victory with lesser talented players. No matter what coach was hired for the job, the end result would still be the same. Portal will open and players will leave left and right because Nick Saban retired. No need to blame that on the program or Kalen. The best thing we have working out for us, Kalen is known for developing 3 star players into playoffs contenders. Kalen is the best uprising coach of this era, and no one is giving him a chance. Any fan that believes in their program is never delusional but respected like any one else. I consider you a fake fan and an internet troll.
I think the big issue with KB is recruiting. Not his forte. I get it, small sample size but what we do see isn’t good. The portal is a tool but Saban had insane depth across the board.
I do not think Bama is gonna fall off the cliff but I am curious how this goes. Defense especially.
