The emcee is brilliant and Ernst is as well. He’s the true mephistopheles of Cabaret, manipulating people to blindly help the effort for the Nazi party and the actor portraying him in this clip truly has that demonic essence needed to be Mephistopheles. In my opinion, Ernst is one of the greatest villains in musical theater and a deeply underrated one at that.

Vocals are incredible. Staging is questionable. Why undermine this song with such poor shit? The song speaks for itself. Making the state so busy and constantly making the audience focus on action rather than the stark reality of this song is just wrong. It literally belittled every single thing the song is about. I feel bad for this incredible performer that be was stuck with a director who didn't understand that this scene is meant to be stark and bleak and not have tons of action happening on stage. Terrible staging. Brilliant performance.
