- In this video you can learn how to make an arc welder easily at home. This welding machine operates on mains 220 voltage. This homemade arc welder capable of producing 150 ampere short circuit current at secondary side which produces smooth and continuous arc. This tutorial covers the complete winding details of a welding transformer. While welding this homemade arc welder consumes 4400 watts of power.

GROMMETS!!! In a little while, you will eat right through that insulation and you will then have a live chassis. That is NOT a good thing, when a $0.35 part will save your ass. ANY time you put a wire through a metal panel use a grommet. It's one of the basics of survival. And if you want a machine that is close to code, you need one at every wire insertion point.
Great work on winding that transformer. That is a lot more work than I want to go through. You have much patience.
ETA: One more quick thought. If you get a large, high power diode and run the output from the transformer though that and put a large capacitor as a fliter, you will now have a DC welder and get much cleaner results in your welds. There are plenty of videos up here on how to do that mod to the little Harbor Freight $100 model. Now, that diode isn't cheap, nor is the cap, but the results seem to be worth it to those who have done it.

Yes and yes.
Let me answer for you firstly every transformer should have enameled wire!
Secondly his version is not really that efficient even though he put a fan inside but it’s still gonna over heat like in 6-10 minutes
So it’s not gonna replace modern inverter welders since they are more efficient and don’t waste power on no load.
If am not wrong calculations of turns are going against the formulas told already??? i.e (7.5/Bobin size*volts) this would turn out to be 275 (7.5/6x220=275 for primary). Pls correct me anybody if am wrong cuz i am willing to do this project soon & i would not wanna waste money.

You have to buy EI transformer plates themselves and then laquer them

@@RixtronixLAB I would recommend a 10:1 ratio for arc welding, that's what I have done and it works well. The EI transformer plates I would look for on a electronics manufacturing supplier website
@@jacobbrutonbrauer7851 the input (primary) is 220V, what wire size do you use for primary and secondary ? I got it somewhere @9:27. 15SWG primary,32turns, 11SWG Secondary,29 turns. Secondary output is 40V. I will find El. transformer plate. How much was it? for price reference. Cool information. thanks

So' 2 x 3 = 6 ( Core area)
Turns per volt '1think. 7.5 Volt '
So' 7.5 / 6 = 1.25 turns
Primary220V X 1.25 = 275 turns 'in your diagram only 160 Turns is it Correct ?
Secondary 40 vX 1.25 v = 50 turns Please Correct my request.

You are not forward the coil gauge and turns in primari and secandry coil

The number of turns in primary and secondary is based on the voltages primary and secondary. The wire gauge depends on the amperage consumed. There are plenty of information about that on the web.

Take any transformer out of a microwave oven and cut off the secondary , (the wires that are not connected to the incoming wires and you can buy appliance wire that is rated for 250 degrees c just look on Amazon or any Electrical supply , the white tin coated wire can handle 80 amps useing #10 awg wind as many wraps in the area you cut off the secondary and you will have about 50 to 70 volts it's 1 volt per wind approx. Another great way that you don't see is the 400 watt metal halide light fixtures in high bay ceiling warehouse lights that are being converted to led , get the transformer , you have 480 , 277, 240, 120 taps on primary to use , cut out the secondary and wind it with #10 gauge appliance wire and it's good for like I said 80 to 150 amps it will not short out if you weld a little at a time , BUT DO ALL THIS AT YOUR ON RISK!!

Las vueltas en el primario y secundario dependen de los voltajes y corrientes de entrada y salida, es decir de la potencia del transformador y existen fórmulas para calcularlas. En internet hay mucha información al respecto.

It is ok if u are carefull not touching any wire or component from the eld. and dont get burned from fire it's producing. But always try wearing gloves anyway. Its safer for you.

Are there AC welding machine? I know that thre are 2 wire. One of "+" the other is "-" . " -" connect to the electrode
@@kenanelicanov2327 The - side is considered ground. It's not, technically, unless it's attached there, but it's considered ground. The smaller Harbor Freight models are AC, that's why they get such splattery results. There are videos up here of guys that have added a diode and cap and made them AC but it's only something you would do if you got the welder REALLY cheap (or free) as it's about the same price as the welder to do the mod.
