BMW 116i - Removing the Cylinder Head

Following the procedure in the Haynes workshop manual (ISBN 978 0 85733 872 3), here's my experience of removing the cylinder head from my E87 N45 engine.

I noticed that your pistons are sooted by something dark and gritty. Mine are also similar to yours (exact same engine). What is the cause for it? Oil or non clean combustion? Mine is making weird noises. Figured it might be related

Ours has oil consumption and fuel, cylinder 3 codes? After 02 sensor, all spark plugs/ coil packs changed and system flashed

That engine looks small compared to N52 :)
