    im not sure lol. i think you're right, go to redline everytime

  • @king4aday4aday
    @king4aday4aday 2 месяца назад

    Usually the best case is to rev all the way to the redline and then shift. The plot observation is absolutely correct, that you should consider where the wheel torque would drop below what it would be in the next gear for the same car speed. Especially in cars with multiple gears (ZF 8/9-speed for example), this could happen easily as there the gear ratios are much closer together. Engineering Explained did a video about this as well a while back. One other thing you need to consider is that you have to be quick though to not "bounce off" the rev limiter, as that costs extra time, except if the wheel is spinning and you bounce off to gain traction. For that reason I usually shift 2-300 RPM early, but it's hard to time it especially in the lower gears. A shift indicator would absolutely help, though I'm not sure that the refresh rate of the one you showed off would give a quick enough reaction time.

    • @PaulOffordRacing
      @PaulOffordRacing 2 месяца назад

      Great feedback - thanks. I can improve the screen refresh time. There are a couple of timers in the code that I can fiddle with, but ultimately I plan to swap out the old Pi for a newer faster one, and the display for one with a faster refresh rate. The gear spacing on my car is quite big; there's a massive jump from second to third. So thrash to the red line would seem to be the answer.

  • @gurukn
    @gurukn 2 месяца назад

    the flaw I see in ur initial theory is that just because you're our of the ideal acceleration RPMs for your current gear doesn't mean that when the torque demand increases for the next gear, your engine's still going to be within the ideal RPMs for that gear. So yes, it would make sense that you send it all the way to the red line so that the engine is able to pick up the now increased torque demand. Amazing video, overall.

    • @PaulOffordRacing
      @PaulOffordRacing 2 месяца назад

      Thanks for the feedback. My initial thoughts were based on observations I made while racing. In my head, I always tried to keep the RPM above 4500 as I felt the car bogged down below this. But I concede, my initial thoughts were probably a bit naive.

    I have the same engine and it consumes a lot of oil 1l/1k km what can i do?

    • @PaulOffordRacing
      @PaulOffordRacing 2 месяца назад

      I'm no expert at that sort of issue but there are a few things I would do. I'd make sure there isn't an oil leak. I'd then do a compression test after the engine was warmed up. If a pressure is bad, I'd drop 5 ml of oil into the bad cylinder and check the compression check again. If the pressure comes back within spec, that would indicate to me that the bore and/or rings are worn, and the oil is being lost by getting past the rings. If the pressure remains bad, it is probably a bad valve stem seal problem. Having said all that, I'd ask the same question on a BMW forum as others have probably got better ideas than me.

    • @PaulOffordRacing
      @PaulOffordRacing 2 месяца назад

      Good question. I have an AiM setup in my car. This comprises an AiM Solo 2 DL data logger and an AiM SmartyCam. The DL is wired into the CAN bus in the car so that it can pick up ECU data (throttle position, brake pressure, etc.). Speed data is based on GPS and generated by the DL itself. The DL and camera are connected together by a wire in the car. You can configure an overlay (in my case with the gauges you see) for the video image. As you run around the track the DL pumps the necessary data to the camera and the camera updates the overlay appropriately.

      Hi, I'm not an expert at tuning them, all I can tell you about is what we do to race in our series. Remember, the engine we use is N45B16, so the following may not be applicable if you have a later model. The changes we make are 2L throttle body and air box, Klarius sports exhaust, remapped ECU and lightweight flywheel. This gives 130 bhp. I wouldn't recommend the lightweight flywheel for road use as it's a one piece flywheel (rather than dual mass) which makes the transmission noisy.

      @@andrejones497 I had a quick look at the oil pump setup on the N13 engine (which I think is what you have). It doesn't have a strainer on the pickup (suction) pipe. See www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/showparts?id=1A12-EUR-06-2012-F20-BMW-116i&diagId=11_5008

    Thanks for sharing, I wonder if using pointed nose pliers on the spring and pushing them rather than the spring would work better?

    How's Snett with the in-field? I've only driven the circuit in games, without the in-field.

    Hi Paul, was the BMW Part No. 13541439580 a drop in throttle body replacement, or did you have to do any disassembly to swap out the electrical components like with the MAF sensor? I have just received my new throttlebody to fit, and was wondering if it needed any modification also to fit it onto the intake manifold

    • @PaulOffordRacing
      @PaulOffordRacing 5 месяцев назад

      No mods to the throttle body or intake manifold were needed. As you'll see in the video, I did swap the 1.6 MAF into the 2.0 air box. This was based on instructions from the guy who remaps our ECUs - they designed the map to work with the 1.6 MAF.

      @@PaulOffordRacing perfect, I do not plan to use the 2l airbox, as this is not a spec car, just my road/ project, so I plan to build a custom air box from aluminium and then mount everything up

    I tried it, but it crashes for me, does it need particular version of the game or CSP? Usually car mods do not crash for me, but may be because it is work in progress? I would really like to see e87 in this game, after all, I had to buy the car myself, since I could not find it for the game, even though it is 118d lci.

      Thanks for the feedback. I don't know much about debugging mods. I'll look into and come back to you with instructions. It may not be for a while as I'm a bit tied up with my racing 116 Trophy car at the moment.
