In this video, we'll dive deep into the art of playing brighter on the saxophone WITHOUT changing your equipment. Whether you're playing pop, big band, or jazz combo gigs, this technique allows you to switch up your tone on the fly with the same mouthpiece, reed and ligature.
Discover the key principles behind playing bright: understanding how smaller chambers and specific baffles in mouthpieces create a fast-moving jet of air, and how we can replicate that same effect with embouchure control and using our tongue as a natural baffle.
But that's not all-learn the subtle adjustments to your bottom jaw to reclaim precious millimeters of the reed, allowing it to vibrate more freely and dialing up the edginess of your sound. Watch and listen as I demonstrate the impact of these techniques on the saxophone.
Stay tuned for a quick Q&A session answering common questions like, "Can I play like this all the time?" and "What's the point of a bright mouthpiece?"

Hi Mr. Jeremy, it's already around 1 year since i learn saxophone (alto) and i already bought my first high baffle mouthpiece (Barkley pop kustom 7) and i already use it for 3 months but why my tone still dark even when I'm using bright mouthpiece? Thanks

Hello, Jeremy! I'm a beginner/intermediate alto player, and I've been interested in buying a Yanagisawa metal mouthpiece (tip opening 7). At the same time, I have been recommended Otto Link metal mouthpieces as starter metal mouthpieces. Currently, I use 3d printed mouthpieces (not SYOS)-would it be worth it to buy a new mouthpiece like the Yanagisawa or the Otto Link?

Hi there! I’ve actually never tried a Yanagisawa mouthpiece before so I can’t really give too much advice there, but the Otto Links are legendary and I played an STM for years on tenor. Definitely worth checking out!

Hi Mr. Trezona, it’s me again (sorry I keep nagging you!), and if or hopefully when I get good enough to play a “better” saxophone, is the Jean-Paul AS860 pro sax good? It seems like a decent pick without breaking the bank. And what strength reed would you recommend, or does it not really matter? Again, sorry to keep bothering you!

Hi there! I’ve tried the soprano and tenor versions of that sax, and they’re both great - I’m sure the alto is too 👍 if you’re starting from scratch, I recommend a strength 2.0 reed - either Vandoren traditional or d’addario royal are both great choices. Hope that helps!
